Fabien Frankel, if you're reading this comment, I really enjoyed your interview. It made me love and understand your character even more than before. They picked the right actor for Ser Criston Cole.

You get these actors sometimes that you just 100% know are super chill regular people that managed to get big breaks based on their talent alone and Fabien really gives me those vibes. Just seems like such a cool dude that you’d chat to in a smoking garden at a pub or something lmao.

I love hearing him talk about his character, his insights are so interesting, and he is charming and funny. Perfect Ser Criston Cole, and I'm ready to get heartbroken by the Kingmaker 👑

This episode was so well directed, It really captured the moment. The acting continues to be excellent.

Daemon knew that sullying Rhaenyra's reputation would make her "spoiled goods." Whether or not they actually coupled, the idea was planted. The natural solution in Daemon's mind is to marry her. It was basically entrapment, but Visaerys didn't fall for it. Like, Daemon, use your words, man. Side note: the facial expressions on Matt Smith and Milly's faces are so perfect. They don't need to say a single word to express their character's sentiment. I love it so much!

The armor was her just having maybe helped her dad or uncle or coisins with their armor in the past or her paying attention to them putting it on for years that she was able to know how to take Ser Criston Cole's armor off.

My takeaway from Emily Carey's and Fabien Frankel's is that both are highly talented actors who have dug deep in their roles. I wish them all the success.

As HOTD is aired on German Televon right now, I got to see the episodes for the first time. So speaking of coupling: Coupling takes place already in Episode 1, when Otto Hightower tells his daughter to visit King Viserys in his rooms. It's the beginning of something, Alicent clearly doesn't feel well with, but does, as her father tells her to do. Furthermore, Daemon sees what Viserys doesn't: the small council sees, that Viserys is a weak king. Watching the conversations after Aemma's death tells a lot about the status. So, I am pretty much convinced, that Daemon was using his own words, when he mourned Baelon's death at the brothel. But his intentions were not to hurt. He loves his brother deeply and he exactly wanted this one thing: to protect him from himself, and from being played out by the small council. If I wouldn't know it better; with naming Rhaenyra heir, Viserys did play extactly the role, Otto had in mind.

Great content, Greta and Jason! I enjoyed your interview with Fabien-such an interesting guy and an impressive storyteller … I could listen to him all day😊 … I look forward to your next podcast! One of the commenters mentioned that Fabien had very few words in HOT-D, episode #4; yet he still brought the tension and the drama onscreen. I would also like to acknowledge that his facial expressions, actions, and dramatic pauses spoke VOLUMES!! He deserves an Emmy … along with the rest of the cast … everyone is so talented! The episode’s recent scandal was so very well calculated … Daemon set this all up! Notice the look that he gave Otto when he returned from the battle … when he knelt to his brother, he gave a hard look to Otto. Daemon had PLANS brewing … Daemon kneeling to his brother and offering up the crown was just like kneeling to the Crab Feeder army … It meant nothing because he planned to stab his brother ( not literally, though). Daemon knelt to the crab feeder army … then stabbed him!! It was a ploy … just as Daemon’s bent knee to his brother was ominous of the treachery to come . 🙄 In the city, Daemon KNEW there were spies … he WANTED to be seen with little Rayray (Rhaenyra). Why?? Because he wanted to taint her name so that nobody would want to marry her …. So … Daemon could marry her himself and be King (consort) … Or … just get her out of the picture. Then eventually, he would get rid of his 3-year old nephew. Then …. Finally, no choice but to name Daemon heir to the Iron Throne 👑⚔️🛡 In addition to defiling Rayray’s reputation, Daemon threw Otto under the bus because he knew somehow that his ex-whore, Myseria had a deal with sending her spies to Otto. Daemon knew that his brother would get angry with the Hand; and, consequently, fire him. Regarding the seduction, Daemon didn’t go all the way with his niece for two reasons: 1. Guilt (he was using her; but he still really cares for her) 2. Impotence … Remember in episode #1, he had sexual problems with his “whore” … she had to give him a pep talk and offer to bring in other women to entice him. Also … He’s married to his “Bronze bitch”, but has not fathered any children yet. As far as being attracted to his own niece … it’s a Targaryen thing … King Viserys married his cousin … Daemon and Viserys’ parents are brother and sister … and King Aegon I Targaryen was married to both of his sisters, Visenya and Rhaenys … When drunken Daemon was being kicked by his brother, he told his brother that it’s ok to marry Rayray even though he’s already married because King Aegon the conqueror did it. That’s when King Viserys told Daemon: “but YOU’RE no conqueror!!” Last point: Ser Cristen was hesitant and conflicted about sleeping with Rayray because he’s a knight: BOUND TO CELIBACY. He took an oath. To break that oath is death … by means of beheading. On the other hand, Cristen couldn’t say no to Rayray because she is the princess. She hired him and is basically his boss. He works for HER. To refuse her wishes is probably death. And remember … Daemon taught Rayray to take what she wants … and that sex isn’t just a duty … it’s pleasure … for either a male OR a female. Cristen kept looking at his armor because his armor was his LIFE … everything that he had worked for … sleeping with Rayray would throw it all away 🥺⚔️ 🛡

It's a nice callback that it's the same dagger that is plunged into the Night King to kill him in GoT, Season 8, by Arya. ^.^

Greta's comment that Daemon might actually "love" Rhaenyra and that it's too much validates what I actually got from watching this episode and the next one. LOL The chemistry that Daemon and Rhaenyra has in episode 4 and 5 and their dynamic is insane! Like what Daemon desires, along with Rhaenyra he wants to show Targaryens could do anything they want in ruling, in love etc. Marrying Rhaenyra would bring back pure Targaryen bloodlines (thus returning to the proper glory). But, he still has a respect to his brother (Rhaenyra's father) that's why he keeps running away. LOL. My guess, once the King dies and their respective partners die, Daemon and Rhaenyra would join and be together bearing pure blood Targaryen children, and the King That Was Promised will come from their blood line and family tree (which we already know in GoT). Disclaimer: These are just my guesses LOLOLOL

What a charming and funny guy!

Frankel is ridiculously charming. For a moment, at the end of the interview, I was all Matt who? THIS guy is my HotD crush. Upon reflection, though, regarding Daemon & R at the pleasure house, maybe we could leave our 21st century mores at the door? Just for the length of the podcast? Nobody is arguing that incest is okay. Nobody. This body IS arguing that those particular scenes with Milly and Matt were hot af and I am here for it. Js. For real, though: In a society where girls and young women are taught that sexual thoughts and desires are shameful or even sinful, being told directly and simply that sex is pleasurable and there’s nothing wrong with pleasure can be a revelation. Daemon does R a favor by giving her permission to acknowledge and indulge in that pleasure. D gets angry with himself when R unexpectedly takes to the lesson so readily. Suddenly D is not in control of the situation and, like so many other times, he has not thought out this potential outcome.

Yes, that episode was putting the fire in Targaryen, (without the actual Dragons}. They are showing us why the Targaryens inter-marry. To keep their power in Westeros. I started reading the Fire and Blood books, and the people of Westeros don't like it much at all. They put up with in good times, because of the Dragon's threats. Like Daemon says, Dragons made them Kings, not dreams. As long as the Targaryens are doing good things, and not causing problems, Westeros will accept them, but when problems or questions arise, they will not. Also that episode was like a mini-dance of Dragons, sex version.

I think Daemon's attempt to seduce Rhaenyra was just a power move. When she started to show interest back, it literally turned him off. So, yes, maybe he does love her, but it seems that he was potent as long as her back was turned, but lost his mojo when she turned around and started kissing him back, which is when you saw the distaste/disappointment in his face. He slapped the wall in anger, and I think that was the proof that all the valyrian steel had just gone right out of his sword.

I don’t understand how the “official” podcast for HOTD doesn’t know what’s actually going on in the show ? You guys speculating about why Daemons “coupling” or lack thereof, shows that you didn’t catch the fact in E01 that he had issues “getting it up” and they spell this out in the extras for all the slow people in the back. He even sort of pounds the wall in anger before he storms off , showing that he’s obviously “frustrated” Watch the extras after the show, so you at least know what’s happening in the episode you are reviewing.
