Love seeing Paul Riario still demoing in guitar world. I Remember when I was merely a teen and guitar world first came with DVD and there's their first ever gears demo with video.
This thing has an insanely good Vox AC30 and Fender Twin clean. I've owned both of those amps, and the models on the Ampero are exact replicas. Very impressed with it.
Second that. The Vox and Fender amps are super impressive. And it's a blast mixing all the different amps up with different speakers and cabs for limitless possibilities. I can scroll through my Ampero for hours exploring and have barely scratched the surface yet of tonal options.
Very underrated processor. Affordable and one of the best mfx units out there in terms of sound quality and usability. Hotone also does monthly firmware updates and improvements.
Excellent unit. Been using mine as a more portable back-up/alternative to the Helix. Not as much flexibility as the Helix but it's a fraction of the price - the sound quality is superb though. Really really impressive, and the fact you can run 1 output to a power amp without cab sims, whilst running the other with cab sims to FOH is invaluable for me. Quality piece of gear!
@Agent 88 my full board consists of the Helix, Whammy DT, JP Wah, Dunlop Powerstage 170, Line 6 G70 wireless all mounted on a Warwick Rockboard Cinque 5.4 pedalboard. Yes, the Hotone is more portable!!
@@marcusnorman46 damn, thats a sick setup! jealous of the powerstage170 haha. an ampero mounted to a board with the powerstage170 would be such a godsend for gigs with a cab backline
@@ZeeZour no problem! in the global settings on the ampero, go to the second page, and you will have 3 options. the first two are the ones you are looking for. you can turn no cab mode on or off for the xlr or 1/4 inch(trs) outputs on this page. I use this to send a cab sim to the front of house, and send no cab sim to my power amp into cab. Let me know if there are any issues finding the settings
As a guitarist who has been playing for 14 years, who has used the axe fx2 live for 9 years, i LOVE my "upgrade" to the ampero. i have used it live for the past year and can not recommend it more. It fits into my gig bag front pocket with my guitar, along with my cables. What i found over time is that the main benefit of the axefx 2 is that people come up to you after your set and talk about gear. Regardless of what people wanna admit, they are swayed by high end pro gear. It creates an air of professionalism that the ampero doesn't bring. the benefit to the ampero though, is that i don't have to drag along a full size midi pedalboard to control the axefx, along with the 17lb unit itself. In terms of sound quality, if you are sporting third party irs, the ampero competes with the sound quality of the axe. The ampero definitely does have it's shortcomings though. I put up with them because i am particularly into the minimalist aspect of the ampero, since gear hauling is one of the banes of my music career. If anyone is interested in hearing about some of the shortcomings of the ampero in detail, message me! they mainly have to do with 1: midi programmability (which is pretty good, just limited in a specific way). 2: the unit trying to do everything, whe a more simple approach would be much more risk free (multi use buttons can lend to an accidental activation of the looper, and unwanted tone bank changes) and 3: the expression pedal is so small that it is not very useable, but the fact that it exists means that you can accidentally hit it and cut your guitar's volume, so in my opinion, it is a liability. I find these shortcomings to be worth it because of the convenience of such a tiny rig, the $300 used price tag means it can break or get stolen without much of a setback. you can buy two backups to this thing for the price of one used axe fx2+ compatible floor board
I'm interested in this thing. What exactly do the leftmost three foot switches do? I am hoping to be able to have a given preset, then add more effects to it by switching them. This video shows the Ctrl switch being used for that though it seems to be more about switching between two sub presets...
@@knowknows7919 yeah the left three footswitches change to whatever tone you want to program in. you can change this though. for example, you can have one preset on the left most switch, and change the function of the other buttons to turn certain effects on or off. so it could work like a mini pedalboard with built in amp and cab sims
A very professional, instructive and fair review that really focusses on the strong points of this unit! I own it together with some bigger processors and I am very satisfied with it. It has lots of great presets, amps and effects and sounds awesome. For this low price I think it's really a bargain.
hey guys! please help me if you can: what was the signal chain in this? I'm looking for something portable that's cappable to go D.I. Out, and i didn't get the info from the video if it was this case (maybe i missed it? i've looked...). Anyway, cool sounds!
Hi , Would it be possible that the CTRL button is always with the Tap Tempo activated? and that it is not deactivated when changing preset? excuse my google translate english thank you
I've just purchased Valeton GP 100, and prefer for NUX MG30, but thanks for your reviews, my next multi effect should be this Ampero ❤ very details review thanks
Does it have a Play view mode of preset or stomp that correspond to the footswitches like Line 6 Pod Go where you can see what patch/effects coming next?
How is it good in signal level equalization, i.e. is there enough dynamic range to have different presets outputting same level, to avoid level adjustments on mixing console?
can someone explain how to change the effect chain(the order)? because the volume pedal should be just before the reverb and delay effects. but its at the end 😢
Tnx alot for the great demonstration. i am using this for my live gigs. but i have a small issue.i need to assign the volume pedal(exp1) just before the reverb and delay of the effect chain. how can i do it? can u explain please....tnx
@Trunk McEight their twin reverb is very clean and open. No mid control, may need to tweak it through the EQ effect. Tone wise some may feel it lack a little grit and drive, but you just add in a drive effect in the chain
I'm a bassist...but am looking for something for homestudio work. Am leaning between this or one of the Tech 21 fly rigs (leaning towards the Kotzen sig for the fuzz function). My genres tend to be blues and doom...would this work well for that? I have an old zoom g3 but it's ok...thanks.
@@ferox965 I have no experience with the tech 21. You can head over to the Hotone Ampero facebook group for more information. Maybe they could help you out
I'm pleased with mine as well! Great sounds! However, when using the wah effect, the expression pedal doesn't run smoothly though the range. Anyone experience the same thing? Does Hotone has a fix for that?
@@greatlakesaudio3852 I think this will be on their board meeting agenda. Customer service is for many customers a point and this company must know that. Saying...this will change soon I think.
Thanks for the nice review. Although they could have improved on the display, for example instead of „P21-3“ switch it with the effect name which is just a software change, the expansion pedal and drum machine are one above the other models out there. And for the price, not bad at all. I though I had everything. But now?!?
The harmonizer is terrible. Has a lot of lag when just hearing the pitch shifted sound. Is this something that could be fixed or just beyond this unit's capabilities?
I buy one sold it aftermy gig. If you step on third & forth botton it will throw u into a completely different mode and very hard to get back. And cos so close together its very easy to do.
Estou com problema com o drive Asio da hotone ampero, fiz instalação o PC reconhece mas não sai o áudio nós monitores, alguém ja passou isso e conseguiu resolver?
So I have contacted support for ampero and have not heard anything. They have a lot of issues background noises clicking. Sent 3 emails no answers. So I am boycotting these I got mine from the pedal guy on here. Just made cheaply. Would not buy based on support
It's easily as good as Helix etc in terms of sound, but a lot less versatile in terms of options. However, if you are an average guitarist, playing at home or small gigs, it's a perfect unit in my opinion.
Not sure why you think the G3X doesn't sound good??? It was my rig (direct XLR) for the past 15 years. I had nothing but compliments from guitar players in the audience. They would ask, "What are you using? It sounds good!" And they couldn't believe it when I showed them the G3X. Anyways, I finally decided to upgrade to HotOne Ampero. It's definitely a step up from the G3X in options for Amp Sim, BUT I still really miss my G3X in many ways.
This unit sends to actually have a lot of good presets right out of the box, which is one of my big complaints with these all-in-one units. Most amp model/multi effects presets are so bad, you wonder why they bother putting them on there at all.
The best ( for me...) patch for Ampero is made by Marco Fanton... with 10 euro you have a really good tone...to start experimenting from a high level ...( with custom I.R. )
I find the screen a little awkward, but it's all logical. However the PC editor is really great, and allows you to do things that you can't on the unit itself, like changing the order of the signal chain etc.
It's nice, after not watching a GW video for a few years, to see something where Paul utilises the presets predominately. Being confined to the presets means we don't have to endure Paul's bad ears and the godawful fizzy tones he normally ends up with.
My only concern is the amount of Amp hiss you get from the Hi Gain Overdriven tones even with the Noise Gate employed. As you let a chord ring out the amount of hiss is unbelievable, so say after recording a song at the end as it fades out all your left is hiss which no amount of Noise Gate can eliminate until the threshold gets to the point were it kicks in...really useless from a recording point of view. Thinking of selling mine. I know you get hiss/buzz from real Amps but come on seriously..
Does anyone would have any idea or experience on comparing this beauty with the POD GO? I was about to pre order the GO until I found this toy... now, I have diarrhea of wondering!!! F@#k!
So many processors are terrible. Most guitarists don't want to have a degree in programming just to have usable sounds. In a studio processors might work well but on stage besides fighting tone you will also have to deal with a single board where if one thing goes bad the entire board might be unusable. Pedals like these were supposed to be the answer to expensive heavy equipment and while the price has went up on processors I don't feel the quality really has so much compared to analog amps back in the day. Not everyone can carry heavy equipment I get that but telling a drummer they have to hit lighter because the solid state loses head room is a different issue. When hitting the front of an amp these signals will distort the amps preamp and they aren't much better on effects return. My solution is to save money and buy a mesa, marshall,or any other dependable amp that already does what it's supposed to do and use individual pedals so if one breaks the rest still work. Again while these might be good for studios or someone using in ears it doesn't work well for most of us but they target guitarists telling us it can replace a good live rig. These are just my opinions but I have been playing live for years and have fought these issues and had to learn the hard way.
I disagree, and have owned Fender, Marshall and Vox amps. I’ve used an old Boss GT8 processor for years playing in cover bands. I can plug straight into the board and get almost the same tones as a tube amp, and have never had any problems. In my experience, Multi-effect units are a good alternative to the tube amp/pedal board.
Yet another menu upon sub menu upon sub menu all-in-one with multi-function dials, a tiny "expression" pedal, all requiring more study than it could possibly be worth. Buy a 50 watt Marshall head, or a Bassman, or either a Vox AC 15 or 30. Get a tube screamer if you must, reverb, delay, chorus if you use them. Get your guitar, plug in and play. And play some more. This thing will be in the multi effects graveyard soon enough, where it can join the legion of its deceased antecedents.
Otis Reverb then buzz on off out of the video for it, bro; no one’s forcing you to be here. I realize that not everyone is smart, but since they all started getting screens, these things are all easy as hell to figure out. It’s not like the 1990’s Digitech where the effects all had two digit code numbers you had to figure out. If you know how to set up a pedalboard, you can set the virtual ones in these devices. “Everyone should like what I like.” You don’t like multieffects pedals? Cool. Enjoy your 50 watt Marshall head with my blessing, bro. Stop telling everybody else what they should do. I don’t buy these things for their resale value, I buy them because they’re fun and useful, and with a little bit of thought I can sound like almost anything. And I’m more than happy to buy a new one in less than a decade for another couple of hundred bucks because it will be smaller or lighter or brighter, or have more features.
I was the same way until I got a Helix. I still have my tube amps but the Helix through the powercab sounds just as good and is easier and more consistent for gigs. I did the sound test in my music room with my tube amps and the Helix. I just looked down at the Helix and thought wow..... They did it. It will be the amps that go to the graveyard. Not mine. I will keep my amps but I rarely play them. Oh and I always get guitar players coming up at the gig to see what I'm using. It usually goes "I can't believe how good that thing sounds"
Dude what do you mean? The Ampero has a looper and while you can use it with an actual amp, that’s just turning the Ampero into a digital pedal which it’s not. Even though it can be done
