As a new polo gti owner I think its the perfect micro hot hatch, tho its the same size as a mark7 golf, so its not that small,. but i dont want to own a car or drive it one on the road that slips tractiojn whedn i corner at speed, I dont know why every car review show loves drifting cars at speeds around corners wheels spinning smoke blowing, you want a car in reality that sticks to the road all the time, you may have to acclerate out of trouble on a corner, if you have a car that when you plant your foot the car slides out like Ken blkock thats not doing anyone any favours, I think people need to stop watching top gera and think the mark of a good sports car is drifting every corner,

I'd take one if it were sold here in Canada. My 07 GTI was a dream car which I sold with 180,000 km on the odometer. It still going great today now with 340,000 km on it. I miss that car.

How does it ride over uneven roads, typical of Sydney city, and are the stereo system upgrades worth it. How is the quality of Volkswagen products these days? I had a Tiguan more than 5 years ago and it was average. Hope its improved.

Is there still a comfort package, replacing the tartan seats with something more understated and adding seat heating? I couldn't see any mention on the written

They are available , it’s called art velour and the winter package in EU. Not sure about Australia. I know because I’ve ordered one with both :)

A little bit frustrating that all these first reviews of the GTI are on a silky smooth race-track. I'm sure most of the buyers would not take their car on a track and therefore would prefer to see how it copes on real Aussie roads (tram tracks and potholes).

Hi Mark, thanks for watching. The test was merely filmed at the track as it was part of a launch program with VW. Before (and after) we had a good run from Sydney’s inner suburbs down exactly the kind of messy road you mention, bombing along motorways, that kind of thing. We don’t have enough tran tracks in Sydney, though, so a single level crossing is as close as I could get. If you head to the website you’ll find the written review which goes into a bit more detail about the driving experience. We’ll be getting the car again for a more rigorous going over in due course.

10k for 5k is absolutely utter bollocks as 10k is what VW perceive as retail for those bits when in reality VW is paying zip for them and doesn't subtract the cost of the parts they replace, they just add them up. Big Rip off.

Agreed. But a lot of folks do and that’s where VW has landed. The problem is, it’s a numbers game. Providing a base car with options costs more money than just dropping the pricey one and wearing the loss of some sales against the money made on the one they do offer. It’d be great if you could get one with nothing in it or tick the boxes you want but on a low volume car like this, the numbers don’t stack up. It sucks, but there we are.

So it’s a new (performance) model with exactly the same undertuned engine & modest output as the last model? Geez what a letdown! Looks like VW are more interested in giving customers pointless exterior LED lights & unnecessary interior tech on their “performance” model.

@@tobysemler you towering intellectual giant. The cerato GT and nline great for what they are, just getting an i30 nline for my daughter to learn to drive in but they are pretty average inside and nothing to write home about quality wise. Good for p platers and peasants.
