A chilling tale of suspense and survival. When a doctor rents a haunted house to use as a clinic, he and his associates are victimized by supernatural powers within.
@@xanlysphynx8839 that sux, I'm in Dallas no water for 8 days no electricity for 8 days, slept in the van with my family and dogs for a week. Just now got hot water back on.
@@xanlysphynx8839 We're in Austin, too. Pflugerville to be exact. We never lost water so thank God for small favors, but we didn't have electricity for days. It was maddening looking out the window to see the highschool stadium with lights ablazed while we turned to popsicles in the dark. Smh
Getting away from world wide political and health crap for an hour or so with a good movie, back to my time when things seemed so much simpler then! Got my snacks see you on the other side! 2:28pm Monday 15th June 2020 May god have mercy on all our souls! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I remember seeing this film in the very early 1980s. It was creepy, and I never forgot it. I did however, forget the title for years LOL! Glad I got to see it again. I LOVE horror movies from the 1970s! Even their hokey moments are worth sitting through, as the filming style was perfection....it always added to the creepiness.
Now this is what I call horror movie. We need more of these. I was so mesmerised by the movie that I heard a scratch at the door and thought my little dog was scratching the door wanting to come in. When I opened the door, there was nothing there!!!
wow. I remember when I was 8 years old I saw this movie with my parents at the movie theater. I've been searching for this movie and now finally I found it. Thanks.
Your parents took you to see THIS at 8 years old? It's a great movie but not for anyone below about 15.My mother was regretting taking me to see Indiana Jones and the Temple Of Doom when I was 14!Thought it was too violent.
@@jonlockett9732the moment actors engaged in a kiss, our mother would throw us out of the room at any age, even 18 or more, or she'd turn the TV off and tell us to go to bed. She'd even tried that when I came to visit at 45 years old, at 9 pm she said " and you, bath and off to bed!" I just had to laugh my head off and wonder how did we comply with this even as adults? It was such a wonderful thing to rebel against this bullying. God bless her now, as she's not with us anymore.
I was 9 when this came out. But I don't remember this one. I mentioned in my comment that I lived in the south Bronx And right on 161st there a small movie theater and my brother and I would go to matinees on the weekends and I saw it's alive. and Jaws 🦈 1 and 2
Lesson 1, do not go into a haunted house alone, lesson 2, don't send a caretaker in to clean with only a straw broom and start cleaning from the ceiling down (those cobwebs). Love these old movies.
*A NOTE ABOUT THE TITLE* - I've seen a few posts of people saying that the title is wrong, but, it's actually known as "House Of Evil", "The Evil", and "Cry Demon". Many people know that movies start off with a "working title" that is often changed, and sometimes titles are changed because it may be confused with another movie, or because of it being shown in certain countries. Some countries don't allow certain words in titles, and sometimes the words/meaning end up being lost in translation and make no sense. Moving on.... I just watched this and thought it was pretty good. I've been watching horror movies from the '70s and early '80s for the past few days. I've never seen several of them. "Crowhaven Farm" and "When Michael Calls" are pretty interesting '70s movies, at least to me. I'm getting into the Halloween spirit, I thought some throwbacks would be good. Yes, I'll be watching the original "Halloween" a couple of times. It's been a tradition for years to watch more than once in October, and especially on Halloween night when AMC airs each chapter. "Halloween III: Season Of the Witch? No, thank you.
Beautiful mansion. Good haunting movie. Surprisingly good special effects. Ending slightly ridiculous, but I enjoyed it. Had some really scary moments.
I like haunted house movies, and they are rare today, but I agree with what Robyn wrote, scrolling down. She hit the nail on the head. And don't forget the women in any horror movie who wear pumps and a dress/skirt.Usually while a monster chases them, they will trip, and/or their dress will snag on a bush.Wear jeans and sneakers! If I slept the night in a haunted house I'd leave my jeans and shirt on, as well as sneakers, while sleeping on the couch.Downstairs, you could escape easier. No weapon, not even a gun, can kill any ghost or demon...they are spirits of the dead. I have never seen this movie before, but it's pretty good.
Not bad for a movie in 1978. I was 4 years old at the time this was made. Pretty good effects for a time when there wasnt the awesome effects we now enjoy. Nicely done!
Not exactly "chilling", more like "breezy", but always fun to revisit movies made during the time one was growing up. It's fun to review (good AND bad) the styles of the day-the haircuts, the clothes, the cars, the customs and the vocabulary. Seems funny talking about the time one grew up as an archeologist might talk about ancient tombs and relics, lol. Fun film familiarly frightening! TY for posting. NOTE TO ALL VISITORS OF SPOOKY HOUSES: When encountering a chest, closet, room, or basement, etc, that is hermetically sealed, then double padlocked and finally with a cross inserted to cover the locks, it is NOT a good idea to undo that which has been done. The evil you are letting loose shall wait until you depart before blowing the doors, which have been sealed for so long, wide open and unleashing the festering anger that has been pent up in the dark, all alone, for so long. (No wonder they're always so pissed.) BEWARE! You have been warned...oh, yeah, and NEVER go into a dark place, be it a room, a hall, outdoors, a basement, ALONE. LOL
here in Quebec in the 80's,we had a tv marathon called the 24 hours of TVA ( a french channel ) where they would run horror and science-fiction movies from 6 am to 6 am the next day.Me and the buddies would try to watch most of it.This film was a staple.
Funny bit of trivia, George O'Hanlon Jr., who plays Pete (the guy who tried to climb down the rope from the balcony and ended up fried) is the son of actor/director/writer George O'Hanlon, who was famous as the voice of George Jetson on the TV cartoon series The Jetsons. O'Hanlon Jr. also had an uncredited role as Mr. Peter Myers, father of William Shatner-mask wearing serial killer Michael Myers (as a child), in the 1978 "Halloween."
My mom was like 2 years old when this movie came out so I wasn't even a thought. I'm in my 20's, but for some reason I like any movie Richard is in. I'm not sure how I came to be a fan of his when most of his movies came out waaaay before I was born, but true talent never dies so I guess that's why I love his acting anyway. If he's in a movie, it'll be good... so I'm watching it! Lol
Can't see why this didn't bring Crenna an Oscar. Fabulous acting and profound dialogue abounds on this oh so original plot. Had he had Rambo in this one that Devil would've been gone long before and all those fine folks could've rehabbed the place into nice condos. Oh well, a tight film budget will do that.
Oh my...Richard Crenna!! I have always been a huge fan of that actor. He was so underrated, he could play nearly any character. I also liked him in the horror film "DEVIL DOG: HOUND OF HELL". Also he was superb in the 'daring' TV drama "THE RAPE OF RICHARD BECK."
the effects guys did an amazing job ! I don't recall seeing such well done 'wire' effects (as seen @45:32) in other films this old. especially without the use of digital/computer tools to "erase" the ropes/pulling devices, as seen in movies like "Paranormal Activity". BRAVO to the special efx team !

Definitely it's all prerecorded! I had a long dream which had come true everything bit by bit, started happening to us!It was a horrendous dream, so I never forgotten it and two years later it all had happened!! People in the dream said the exact things which I was told later, in reality. It was scary as I already knew what the person approaching me will say!! It was all bad, my life's never the same and I'm scared of life and of dreams now. 😢
@@mordecaiesther3591 Yes, Joanna was in four Night Gallery episodes as well as Thriller and Tales of the Unexpected. She adapts particularly well to themes of the paranormal!
I'm inclined to agree with you.The memories of 70s films (andoften seeing them again on RU-vid) are way better than most of the new stuff from the 21st century.I just relate so much better to the 70s and early 80s and the actors and the styles from them somehow.Well I'm 50,guess that mostly explains it.
The Evil (also known as Cry Demon[1] and House of Evil[3]) is a 1978 American supernatural horror film directed by Gus Trikonis and starring Richard Crenna, Joanna Pettet, Andrew Prine and Victor Buono.[4] Its plot follows a husband-and-wife team of doctors who attempt to open a rehabilitation center in a mansion built over a gateway to hell. No Karloff whatsoever.
I watched this in the 80s and was super scared but only remembered small things about it but search forever for this movie,,, definitely needs a remake would be fabulous
This movie terrified me when I was a kid .... OK .. the cheesy 70's special effects cured me... childhood trauma dispelled I can finally breath ... I think I made a break through today ...
Did you have to brace yourself.??? I know I did .. I don't know what I was expecting ... LOL =D Now I just have to get brave enough to watch "The Exorcist" ... and I'm good .. Oh no and "Cat People" .. come to think of it I have a long list to go through ... . I was a real chicken as a kid .. hahaha
lol.. yeeesss i had to brace myself and it was weird because i was kind of disappointed that i wasn't scared. "the exorcist" still scares the shit out of me. when i was a teenager i went to see it when it first came out. i hid through most of the movie and i was severely traumatized. the first time i watched the movie without hiding i was an adult and it scared the shit out of me again. that movie is evil! i will always be afraid of it.
I agreee it IS awful ... that's why I haven't seen it again ... I saw it in Netflix and added to my to watch list ... but then I got scared that I might be inviting bad mojo... I quickly deleted ... hahaha .. Well if ever I get brave enough or drunk maybe I'll watch. I'm always looking for new scary flix if you have any faves send them my way =D .. psss "The Baddadook" is terrifying!
yikes... it sounds scary, just the name. i'll look for it. and yes i agree about "the exorcist". i remember all the stuff that happened on set when they were making that movie and i really do feel that it can bring bad stuff in, it's that powerful. did you see that new one "witch"? i haven't seen it but heard that it was really scary.
I was 9 yrs. old when I 1st. saw this movie. It scared me so that it stuck with me all of these yrs.. didn't know the name so I wasn't able to watch it again until today. Wow it only took 36 years for me to get to see it a second time .ha who would of guessed. Not so creepy anymore lol.
That’s wonderful you found your movie. I’m looking for one that may be before 70’s. It’s about a husband who tries to scare his wife to death cause he wants rid of her. I remember inside a house upstairs and a goul calling after her name and the house possibly having a fire? Don’t remember much more. Sound familiar ?
Watching during the Covid19 Lockdown in Malaysia. May 2020. A big thank you to all the frontliners worldwide. God help us all during this difficult time.
Great upload thank you...was rather scared by the white trousers that left nothing to the imagination that that guy was wearing...loved the storyline...got repetitive strain injury turning the volume up and down all the time (not the uploaders fault)......other than that....totally loved it...some genuinely scary moments x
601 dislikes for Richard Crenna??SMDH this guy is a seasoned method actor and regardless of the film genre deserves RESPECT which is a word fleeting in vain now a days...........
People are idiots as well as ignorant. They hear some kinda rubbish about the man and then decide that they’re all judges and juries plus most people who are under 35-40; have no idea that he’s done much more material than Rambo’s captain
For a 42 year old movie, it still scared the hell out of me. Dam good movie for those who like scary horror movies. Recommend it 110%. It's a must see. 😷. 👍. 😳. 😱. 😫.
I'd like to be a fly on the wall when they explain all that at the police station. Good movie. The lock down thing reminded me a bit of the modern House on Haunted Hill. Thanks for posting Froggy,
Man I loved to be scared of those 70's made for TV movies about evil. Then scurry to bed making sure no part of my body was hanging over the edge so "it" couldn't grab me. My grandma and my stuffed koala bear always kept me safe. Love them 70's cars as big as boats.
YES!!! My grandma and I on the weekends would stay up all night Friday and watch B&W horror movies. Needless to say I slept really close at the age of 7...probably why I'm so desensitized now. Can't find one to scare me to save my !I've!!! I still miss her terribly.
At 38. It was like an earthquake at 9.0 on the Richter scale. I have lived through an earthquake at 6.4 and I thought it was the end of the world. Living in Athens in 1981. Scary stuff.
2:58 Really!? A broom!? Like anybody would tackle all that dust and crap with a single broom. Director: "We gotta give him something to do while he talks to himself in more than normal detail".
The Real name is : " The Evil " Released in March of 1978 and made for $ 700, 000. I enjoy these 70's Spooky Mansion movies too ! It reminds me of the ABC Movies of the week on Friday nights...They had some Creepy ones !
Vintage creepy late-70's film. Still pretty scary despite now-outdated special effects and cheesy ending. But The Changeling (1980) is by far superior, due in great part to George C. Scott's acting and Peter Medak's subtle direction.
TheTeacher1020. The Changling was ridiculously scary! I watched it with my mom on a real stormy night and couldnt go to sleep till dawn.. I was surprised since I thought it was one of those cheesy old scary movies.. Very surprised!
This movie is not about devil and dark powers - it's the fights inside this doctors troubled mind and soul put in pictures ..... Not bad - stories that are mind provoking - music that fits perfectly - I like the old movies - even though they have their little "mistakes" too - like: perfect hairstyles after fights in dusty old castles or light colored clothes that seem to never get dirty ;))
Hey hey hey now! Hallmark Christmas movies aren't so horrible. Sure they're sappy, predictable, corny... okay well they're a little bad, but when it's Christmas I get a little corny. 😂😂 And you gotta love the channel that gave us all of those Stalked By My Doctor movies with Eric Roberts starring as the horrid, obsessing, stalking, kidnapping, creepy pancake making, lunatic doctor! Give it a chance, yea? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I do know the Feeling. When I pick a RU-vid title and straightaway it is obviously a very recent 21st century Job (with everyones ears stuck to cellphones 24/7) I am sceptical, thinking should I Switch to a 70s instead?
I love 70s clothes, especially the flares! Otherwise, this is a really good entertaining movie - even though I've watched more scary ads on TV about tooth decay! Thanks, FroggyFlix :)
The Evil. A very cult film about an ancient terror that was slept underneath the Vargas House. Now, Joanna Pettet & Richard Crenna must stop Victor Buono from claiming their lives.
