Hi Bob! That was a wonderful experience to play with you in the 90's in Switzerland !

The lesser known (to me) Bob Mover must be viewed as a musical educator of no ordinary class; one of the best is he. Don't you agree? I admire how he "concretizes" theoretical abstractions, thus his making musical complexities most accessible especially to the visual and tactile/hands-on students. Finally, I am floored by Bob's unselfish 👋 acknowledgements of the names of the people from whom he has acquired the wealth of his musical knowledge. Kenny Durham! My kind of trumpeter, yep! I might have seen him at Manny's (now defunct at 48th St, New York) without knowing he was the "bad-as-ass" creator of "Fungii Mama", lately made a Funky-Jazz hit by trumpeter and pilot Tom Brown of "Funkin' For Jamaica" fame - Jamaica Queens, New York. Can't get enough of Bob Mover's and Jay's - the first class 👌 interview. Encore! Yep!

I really love how Bob presents this concept! It’s so clear and accessible! As a side note, this is another way of understanding some parts of Coltrane’s famous circle of fourths/fifths drawing which demonstrates symmetrical ways of moving between keys. When moving between keys, you’re always modulation closer to the key a tritone away or closer to the tonic. The tonic key and tritone are the midpoints, and left and right of the tonic and tritone are symmetrical inverses of each other.

I love how much sense this is all making to me now! For the longest time I never believed I would understand jazz and chords etc..., but now I'm actually confident enough to watch videos like this!

I have been smiling throughout this entire conversation. I love nerding out on this topic or anything about music. Great Jay!

“A song is a story about a tonic, expanding away from or contracting back to the tonic” I love this metaphor, it makes things click in my mind the way Ornette Coleman’s description of Tone Centers rather than key signature helped me understand soloing with chord scales with the freedom to play chromatically with passing tones.

These are great videos, and Bob is great with words and concepts. It's great to hear all of the language that goes with the music. So many musicians are not aware of the Roman numerals he's using.
