I find it interesting how ignorant some people are.. I was interviewing a rookie cop yesterday and he told me he had a bachelors of science in marketing. My next question was. “Do you know and understand your first amendment also what is your job as a police officer.” He said his job was to enforce law and protect others from harm… that’s what he said. I couldn’t believe that… I told him what I believed his job was and also gave him a handout with the first 10 amendments and told him that the only thing he needs to protect is that pamphlet.

I have mixed feelings about the ladies making the blankets. Yes, they were wrong to think it was a private space, but on the other hand, the work they were doing was a kindness. They even had to pay $20 for the class according to the bulletin I saw. I wonder if the township kept that or if it was part of the donation to the kids? I agree with what you do, and I am all for you keeping the employees in check. I would say leave the old ladies making quilts alone. True they have no expectation of privacy, but all they know is they came to a quilt making class and now your work is disrupting that. Give the old gals a break. I know my town hall has Lamaze classes, and although you have the right, I would say choose your battle wisely.

The fact that it's a private class requiring admission can be grounds for limited access to the room. Only if they had posted restricted access signage. It looked like you were going out of your way to record the walls and paintings. It appeared to me that you would have left them alone with very minimal video coverage - if they kept their traps shut.

When someone tries to block your camera with there hands you should ALWAYS tell them it’s a federal criminal offense to stop you from recording in public which is a first amendment right. That said you do a great job auditing and I consider you one of my top favorite auditors.

The sewing/knitting class to make blankets for charity is very noble, they deserve support. Some of them got too bent out of shape over being recorded. Understandable that for many being recorded is 'unusual' to them. But the point is they learn that their discomfort should not override the Constitution. When comfort becomes more important the rights are in jeopardy of being lost.
