Ulf has already gone power mad. Insulting the heir to the throne, being rude to the queen, insulting the other bastards. He might have a dragon now but he is still easy enough to get rid off.
@alexanderwiles2003
@alexanderwiles2003 Месяц назад
he hasn't, he is acting the same way he always acting with his friends and everyone else in kings landing (where he is very popular), making jokey insults that he expects jokey bite back from. he also wasn't insulting jace, as soon as he realised who he was he was trying to show how they are similar. and considering he has the third biggest claimed dragon and how they got all the bastards they could and probably would struggle to get rid of him and replace him

Halaena is a Dragon Dreamer, Just like here ancestor Daneys Targaryen who predicted the Doom of Valyria. Her being the purest of heart of all the people has nothing to do with what she tells Daemon what he needs to hear. She most likely just saw who's bloodline needed to continue to bring forth "The Prince that was Promised" and just wanted to tell Daemon he would be a big part in making that happen.

I think you guys are kind of missing Jace's point. Something that's difficult for us to compute today is the idea of there being anything mystical about kingship. Most people today are naturally cynical of idea of spirituality/divinity having any real place in determining a country's leader, that it is "God's will" for them to reach that position. And the importance of bloodline to royalty cannot be overstated.In this world HOTD is set in, the Valyrians are their own ethnic group. This has helped keep them separate from their subjects -- unreachable, except through servitude and/or illicit sexual relationships. The blood magic that makes them dragonriders is the only reason they rule over Westeros. They are different than the Andals of Westeros, and their right to the throne DEPENDS on being seen as something magical and otherworldly and, yes, in some minds, "superior" to even the nobles of this land. If Jace isn't the product of two Valyrian families but rather of a Valyrian who "stooped" to having her son sired by someone from a lesser noble house -- not even a big, fancy noble house like the Starks or the Lannisters, but rather a minor house that serves the royal family -- that does make him less mystical and much more on par with the regular nobles. Vermax has been Jace's "proof" all this time that he has that mystical, preordained destiny gifted to him by the blood magic of Valyria. THAT is what he means when he says it makes them "special." I also think Baela is being a LITTLE naive here, too. With *alllllll* of Alicent's diatribes about "Virtue" with a capital "v" surely we all get the fact that being born out of wedlock is a big deal. In Westeros, there is a HUGE stigma to bastardy. They are said to be born from lust, lies, and weakness, and as such, they are said to be wanton and treacherous by nature _[see "A Storm of Swords" and "The Sworn Sword"]_. Think of Jon Snow, with Catelyn always glaring at him, and any time someone like Sansa ever got miffed with him, they could remind him that he wasn't REALLY their brother because he was not trueborn. When King Robert came to visit Winterfell, Jon was not allowed to eat at the same table with the rest of his family. Unlike today, where we don't blink or give it a second thought if we have kids with a significant other without the formality of getting married, in Westeros it's a big deal, and BAD THING to be the kid of two people who are not married. And worse, these kids are basically branded by having to carry a surname like Rivers, Flowers, Sand, Waters, Snow, etc. that announces their birth like a neon sign. EVERY time someone calls Jace a Targaryen bastard, they are saying he has no right to be his mother's heir, _no matter what she says._ If they are fighting this hard over the idea of being ruled by a _woman_ just imagine how much harder they fight over the idea of being ruled by a bastard son. ANY uneducated con man from Flea Bottom who has been accepted by a dragon can challenge Jace's right to be the king. He has a legit fear here, and no one is listening to him. In GOT, that always means it's going to come back to bite someone in the ass.

As a deep lore/book nerd I loved the daemon weirwood scene. Also the face that's on that weirwood is george rr Martin's face, there's something hilarious about daemon touching georges forehead and seeing the main story. The first guy you saw was brynden rivers aka bloodraven aka the three eyed raven who btw, is a targaryen bastard. Such great stuff. Also the thing you saw with antlers is presumably a green man. Might be some variation of the children of the forest or a human/child hybrid. They were said to live on the isle of faces which is in the middle of the gods eye lake next to harrenhal.

Here’s the skinny about why this season is 8 episodes instead of 10. It was planned to be 10 episodes up until til one month before filming when HBO decided to close their purses and told the showrunners it had to be 8 episodes. The writers had a month to write to make adjustments before filming. The writers strike happened early during filming, the writers are American and so they weren’t able to do rewrites during filming. They were only allowed to film during the actors strike because the British actors are under a different union and were allowed to work. Episode 9 would’ve been a game changing thing happening that they’ve been building up to and episode 10 would’ve had a huge epic battle that they’ve also been building up to. Now episode 9 will be episode one and the big event from episode 10 will happen early season 3 just not sure which episode exactly but anywhere from 2-4, with episode 2 being the likeliest then episode 3. Rumor has it that HBO got cold feet about finances ahead of the two upcoming strikes, so that is likely why they made the decision to screw over the showrunners by making it 8’episodes with no time to prepare to plan a change

I don't think Jace's issue is so much losing "what makes him special", but rather that Jace has this massive sense of inadequacy/inferiority stemming from his bastardy, that he feels the need to compensate for. We saw that as well when he was practicing Valyrian, and beating himself up about getting something wrong, while Rhaenyra urged him to go easier on himself. Rhaenyra sees Jace as a worthy heir, but Jace knows that the society he lives in will look down upon him for his bastardy, that people will contest his inheritance. Rhaenyra has shared Aegon's dream with Jace, which puts even more pressure on shoulders to keep the Realm strong and united when he comes into power. But how can he do that, if his claim is contested? Rhaenyra IS taking away Jace's "shield" against the accusations of bastardy, because many would believe that only the trueborn blood of the dragon can claim a dragon, and that has just been proven untrue beyond a doubt now.

@@grizzledwizard7129 Or, and please hear me out here, you could try accepting criticism gracefully and allowing room for a bit of introspection. First, I try to _never_ begrudge entertainers their success, whether they entertain _me_ , or not. You have an audience. That inherently means you're doing something right. I also know and respect how difficult it is to establish oneself in that world. I dipped my toe in it, a long time ago, in a different field, and in a small way, and I know full well just how difficult and harrowing the climb to _any_ level of success is, much less having to roll with changes and adapt as your field evolves around you, in order to maintain and then grow your audience, and careers. Second, your success does not mean there is no further room for improvement, but you two, alone, are the actual judge of what improvement entails, not random drive-by's authored by a single unknown snark-monger (me, in this case). That being said, I wasn't just trolling to get a rise out of someone, or make someone feel bad because I was unhappy with my experience. When I do levy a pointed criticism, I try my best to voice something meaningful, that could be food for thought. That last sentence I included, was, in my opinion, a valid note, stated succinctly. "sorry for treating this show like make-believe entertainment!" - Excellent fiction inherently engenders emotional investment. If it doesn't, the author has failed. The better the writing, the deeper the connection between the story, and the audience. Remember people's reaction when Jorah saw Daenerys smoking, with 3 new friends? Or when Jon's teammates made alterations to his black cloak? When Joffrey discovered wine can cause indigestion? When Oberyn got a little cocky and was unable to save face? Remember when it rained on that _wedding_ at the Twins and Roose Bolton thoughtfully gave Robb, Tywin's regards? I would say that there is a distance greater than the Narrow Sea's width between fans who appropriately emotionally invest in excellent art, and individuals who develop an "unhealthy parasocial relationship" with fictional characters. Further, I would suggest that it is an insult to the fan base to which you seek to appeal, to belittle their appropriate emotional investment, with the kind of logic you just used, simply to dismiss a possibly valid, but undesired criticism. In this episode, I felt extremely uncomfortable every time Ulf opened his mouth and said something. Virtually every reactor has responded the same way. Ulf had zero sense of decorum, absolutely _no_ respect for the gravity of the situation, and for the stunning, unearned change of fortune he had just been blessed with. It was painful to watch. Some reactors openly yelled "SHUT UP" at their screen when he was snapping back at Rhaenyra. That same feeling of discomfort inspired my comment. Giggling and quipping over moments of gravity in the plot, without regard for the significance of the feelings those moments inspire in much of the audience. Those feelings are one of the reasons many people watch GoT/HotD. There has been no character in GRRM's world more clever, witty, or with better comedic timing than Tyrion. He knew exactly where the line was, and how to push it. Sometimes, he went over. But he had a very clear sense of decorum, and respect for the gravity of moments of import. There is a big difference between Tyrion, and Ulf. I would strive to be more Tyrion, and less Ulf. But, as I said, you're successful, and have your audience, because of _your_ personalities, and _your_ choices. So my actual, unsolicited, but sincere advice would be to change nothing, at this point. You might not want to disregard my actual point outright, however. Ideas like that tend to percolate, over time, and may seem more reasonable and helpful at a later date. I mean, Daemon didn't go from "I'll take King's Landing as King, and then Rhaenyra can join me there, as queen" to "I am meant to serve you" in just one peaceful, dreamy night in Harrenhal...
