Now that you mentioned it the Crab Feeder could be a second son of House Celtigar. Not only does it go with the theme of the conversation of second sons between Daemon and Corlys, as you mentioned; but house Celtigar is the third house of Westeros that claims lineage from Valyria. And their house sigil are crabs. 🦀

My favorite scene was at dragonstone when Rhaenyra came flying in. The scene when she came flying in the clouds swishing around and then boom otto drops a deuce in his pants knowing he just failed!!!. She did show oldass Otto up. Otto reminds me of Tywon Lannister. I think the episodes are laying out a great story so far.. I cannot wait until next week.

Agreed. I really liked the way he stood up for his brother and basically said to Corlys "I can criticize my own brother, but you should mind your words when talking of him". It shows how much he cares for his family, despite his recent actions. A truly multilayered and well written character.

I actually like Otto hightower he seems so far like a very good manager of the realm as hand if the king. He obviously has lots experience doing so. And he lead the team to confront daemon at dragon stone. He didnt assign it to one of the King's gaurd. He went himself. Also him knowing what daemon is capable of in regards to violence and being a loose canon. Otto hightower has big stones in his breeches.. You can't hate on him he seems to have a good grasp in governance..the inner politics of the Court..while being trusted absolutely by viserys. Yes his daughter for marriage to the King benefits his famoly but you can't say it would be bad for the realm. He knows the lords don't want to support a woman ruler. A union between 5he hand of the king and the king seems like the logical conclusion.

Rhaenyra facing off Daemon head-on on Dragonstone was my favorite scene. The actor playing the young Rhaenyra is a very good pick. She has a lot of stage presence. On the whole, I am very pleased with the cast, haven't seen any obvious bad picks so far.

Otto to me seems like a bad casting pick to me for some reason, he seems like he'd be a great horse stable attendant, but the hand, I don't know. Every scene with young Rhaenyra is so good. I love the actress playing her and the aura she possesses. The scene where she picks out the new member of the kingsguard, the dialogue she has with Rhaenys, showing her vulnerability with Alicent and OF COURSE the scene at Dragonstone.. By far my favorite scene so far. The standoff between Otto Hightower and Daemon had me on the edge of my seat and then for Daemon's dragon to crawl up the mountain making it more tense and Rhaenyra's entrance piercing the clouds.. So good, gave me CHILLS.

My favorite moment so far was when Otto and the king's guard when to Dragonstone to confront Daemon and once they noticed the dragon in the distance, Otto was like "Sheathe 'yer fuckin steel!". It's the first time in the show so far where you see how powerless all the other families are against the Targaryens.

I'm not one who is giving this series a chance after the botched ending of GoT "just because of the dragons", but I have to admit that seeing and hearing Caraxes scream absolutely sent shivers down my spine. So thrilling, and yes, indicative of how if "You mess with the Targaryens, you get the dragons."

I loved the confrontation between Rhaenyra and Rhaenys Targaryen. Two strong women skilfully facing off with wisely chosen words. Rhaenys speaking frankly and bluntly like Olena Tyrell did, Rhaenyra standing her ground, not letting Rhaenys take the advantage, often responding with the same ingenious level of passive aggression. Such a powerful and beautiful scene! Real GOT politics right there.

Although it's presented as a confrontation, I actually think Rhaenys was being genuine. She's giving Rhaenyra a heads up that her ascension to the throne will not go unchallenged due to her being a woman, as Rhaenys knows very well considering she should be the rightful ruler at this time.

I came into this series with the mentality of "I've been hurt before", and eventhough I liked the first episode my defenses were still up. This episode put me back into that feeling of wonder and enthusiasm I had during GoT best seasons. I was like "hey! I remember this feeling!".

I too am a Dan & Dave victim. It’s hard speaking up about this but seeing others such as yourself talk about it helps and shows me there are support groups for us. I still have PTSD from my experiences in season 8. And that affects how I watched these two episodes. Hopefully the rest of the series can remedy my season 8 trauma.

When the king just keeps making the worse decisions 🙄 I just don't understand why he would send Hightower, a guy he knows Daemon brother hates, to "discuss" with him for a stolen dragon. I thought Rhaenyra would speak up again, but I'm glad she'd just gone rogue when she has to. That moment was badass.

The way they set up Rhaenyra's unauthorized confrontation with Daemon at Dragonstone was great. Rhaenyra has elements of both her father's and her uncle's personalities, and needs to strike a balance between the introspective but indecisive Viserys and the bold but impulsive Daemon. So she took a bold and decisive action by showing up even when she wasn't really supposed to, but she clearly had given some thought to what she was doing. Up until Rhaenrya arrived, Daemon could have easily slaughtered every one of the men confronting him, and wouldn't have had many compunctions about doing so (considering he hated Otto and probably Criston). But Rhaenrya's arrival first levelled the playing field by introducing Syrax to counterbalance Caraxes, and she was able to confront Daemon knowing that he wouldn't hurt her, whereas he would probably have been happy to hurt Otto. As she aptly put it to Viserys later: "I retrieved the dragon egg without bloodshed, something I don't know that Otto could have done on his own."

@@hokagedlo6133 Not necessarily. As we'll see during the Dance (or as we've already seen in Fire and Blood), the vast majority of dragon vs. dragon combat ends with mutual death. The only times one side comes out a clear winner in dragon combat is when they have a numbers advantage or when their dragon is vastly larger and stronger than the other (i.e. Vhagar vs. a much younger dragon). Caraxes is more powerful than Syrax, yes, but not overwhelmingly so. A hypothetical battle between the two of them would almost certainly lead to the deaths of all involved, and certainly it changes the power balance considerably from when Daemon had the only dragon present. As GRRM aptly puts it, dragons are the weapons of mass destruction of this world, and the concept of mutually assured destruction definitely comes into play with them.

Know its only 2 episodes in, but this show and its showrunners have literally shown how you should collaborate properly with the creator of the stories and not cater to your own ego's, in that context it very much gives me a Netflix Sanderman vibe with the involvement of its creator in bringing it to screen. @@rebboy17 No, it's all on D&D, GoT was not GRRM show, and most shows don't have books to guide them word by word, and they still don't make the horrible mistakes they made. Plus they had a lot of material from the books they didn't use, and a lot of advises they did get from GRRM they just dismissed them, they wanted to make it their own, and did.

@@shamed13 Nope, they were at the Sept at the time. The buildings look similar on the outside. The Kings Landing Sept at this time is not the Great Sept of Baelor that we saw in GoT. That is built by a later Targaryen king.

Loved the scene at Dragonstone…Rhaenyra coming up through the clouds - BAD ASS. Loved how Daemon checked Corlys and wouldn’t let him go too far when talking about Viserys.

Everytime Rhaenyra speaks high Valyrian I get chills...this show is amazing so far! Ep 3 looks like it will be a lot of fighting, very different from this episode with all the politics. The balance between all the fighting and the dialogue is good and keeps the characters interesting as well as giving the show a chance to build the characters properly.

When Rhaenys mentioned “the order of things” it reminded me of “the wheel” in GOT. Similar to Rhaenyra saying she would create a “new order” if she became the queen, Dany aimed to destroy “the wheel” and she did in some parts of Esos. Both heiress trying to destroy social structures of their times- “the order of things” is patriarchy and “the wheel” is social injustice. Also, Rhaenys reminds me of Lady Olenna, very perceptive and blunt. Then again, she was the queen of thorns for having a sharp tounge😂

Great analysis and I love it how you keep comparing the series to the books in all your (including GoT) videos whithout picking one over the other as better. Regarding Crabfeeder your theory is exciting about his ancenstry. At the same time when I first saw his skin I suspected grey scale and not burns - which could point to a different but also exciting character backround. Maybe he tried his luck in old Valyria too and got the sickness? It wouldn’t rule out that somehow he is connected to Targaryens and tried to find a way to secure a dragon, a magical artifact or find something that could help destroying them? Since we are at the point in the storyline where Dorne already destroyed Rhaenys and Meraxes with a scorpion maybe the last one is not the best theory, but we’ll seen soon enough if the writing keeps being so good :)

I loved the episode particularly any scene with Matt Smith as Daemon, but the best thing of all was the reuse of the "Game of Thrones" theme. I was sitting there smiling and thanking the showrunners. Gotta say that gave me chills hearing it again. This is the official "welcome back to Westeros" I needed. I also loved the graphics ending in the fire of the Three Headed Dragon. This show is officially titled: "Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon" so it makes sense to reuse the original theme. This is still the Game of Thrones where you either live or you die. Nothing changed just the players.

I've seen a lot of people either misinterpret or entirely miss Daemon and Viserys' relationship and Otto's motives. Daemon DOES love his family. The fact that he goes "I may speak of my brother however I like but you try it find out what happens next." show us this. The fact that he WAS CRYING at the funeral shows us this. EVEN from the beginning Otto has tried to plant a wedge between the two brothers. Seen when Otto mentioned the "Heir for a day." thing without proper context. It's a messed up thing to say, but as Daemon himself said we all mourn in our own ways. Tone of voice is VERY important in certain context. Here, Otto was only provoking Daemon to lash out. He got that when Daemon drew his sword, prompting EVERYONE to react. He only told everyone 'to sheath the fcking steel" (love that line) because he got what he wanted. Rhaenyra can see right through Otto; the look she gives him after she gets the egg shows that. The show seems to be more about subtly then in your face. And it's reminding me of early game of thrones seasons. Which is great.

This episode reminds me of the dynamic entry into a chess game where everyone is assembling their pieces and both sides are beginning to maneuver their pieces into position to strike. Its all about recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of everyone's positions. Otto is hand to the King and stands in the strongest position atm. He just married off his daughter to become wife to the king, he has manipulative capability such as being sly with the comments of making the choice to remarry after losing a wife, and then there is the constant pushing of his daughter into a position to suite the King. He has authority; his army- ( A threat of a Threat in chess terms) is really a proxy army that is the King's army providing a sense of security. His daughter is/was friends with the King's daughter and his comments while always in opposition against Corlys always come across as being astute and sincerely acting in interests of the King which he his friends/friendly with. He acting on his to support the king and go in his stead was a proxy show of power, I can't be certain and don't think he accounted on Rhaenyra coming and taking back the egg, but it does help his position almost like a discovery attack that arises out a position of weakness which was demonstrated when Daemon chose to give up the egg. He misplaced Daemon (King Visery's) strongest piece whom was acting to actually be supporting the King though faulty in personality though perhapbs not in allegiance. He then misplaced Rhaenera by proposing she step aside to go take on another matter so she wouldn't come to advise the aid of Corlys. So we are seeing his tactics come into play. He is definitely cunning, but cunning is nothing to the perceptive with a keen sense for direction for themselves. He's playing on the fact the main Targaeryon family has leaders but they lack a sense of direction. Viserys just lost his wife, Daemon literally is ambitious but not content with his position, and Rhaenyra lacks experience but doesn't lack a brazen sense for intelligence for calling people's positional bluffs. Otto's greatest weakness is his daughter, whom we haven't seen her intent about what she is looking for. She is abiding by father's suggestions/commands to see the king but she may side with her relationship with the King or perhaps her child (Episode 3 Preview) more than her father. so we have to see. She has best position to call him out given she will be becoming the wife to the king and have the greatest influence over him. She then takes up having to navigate through the King's position which is also deteriorating, but like I said we haven't seen her true intentions yet. His greatest Opposition is presented as Corlys but Corlys is in trouble from attacks and has had all his supporting pieces that would have come in the aid of a pending marriage between his daughter and the King taken away. so he's playing on his desperation. There's so much more to diagnose but that's the small tid bit on the power dynamics of The strongest positioned player. Though to be fair the Princess Rhaenys "The Queen that never was" also seems to be in a potentially sly and strong position as well.

Favorite moment from the episode - Rhaenyra riding on the back of Syrax, swooping in to save the day. Rhaenyra out maneuvers every man standing on the bridge to Dragonstone. Milly Alcock is fierce in her portrayal of the Princess. I'm curious to see Emma D'Arcy's take on the character, but I know I will miss Milly Alcock. I hope the show finds ways for the actress to continue exploring the young Rhaenyra.

Favorite part would be the confrontation at Dragonstone, those tense moments where you hear the Dragon before seeing the fog ripple to reveal it, gave me shivers! Though a really close second favorite was with the Crabfeeder. It was a very unsettling scene(s) from his face to how they showed the.. uhh.. crabs actually feasting.. I am so in love with HOTD already and feel they've done a wonderful job so far! Thanks for the vids, keep up the good works! Edit: Crap, I just remembered the scene with Laena and Viserys.. The awkwardness was so perfect.
