Otto is also trying to avoid having Viserys and Daemon together at all cost because he knows Daemon actually is the only one who can expose Viserys weaknesses and the only one who can push Otto away, but Viserys is too blind. That's why he lies at Dragonstone, he wants Daemon to act like a Villain and to think Viserys really abandoned him.

@@takecharge5140 yes, Dreamfyre was Rhaena’s dragon. However, it is thought that Rhaena’s dragon did lay the three dragon eggs that Dany receives in ASOIAF. Alissa Farman, Rhaena’s lover, stole 3 dragon eggs from dragonstone and sold them across the narrow sea. It is thought that the 3 eggs turned to stone being kept outside of the warmth of dragonstone and the people who the eggs were sold too did not know how to hatch dragons.

A bit more to Corlys. He is the reason his house is so rich. Before him as today (game of thrones main time line) house lannister was the richest. However Corlys spent most of his childhood at sea, and he sailed further and more than any had gone before him. With the riches from those travels he built his house much stronger, even rebuilt their home/castle into a new one to rival Dragonstone. So he is right when he tells Daemon he built everything he had himself

Daemon's not trying to provoke a civil war; he wants to get his big brother's attention (something he often tries to do, it's rather a habit) and get him to come to Dragonstone to talk. He's also annoyed about not being The Heir anymore; despite not really wanting to be the King after Viserys...

I like the fact that the tradition and origins of the kingsguard are already fading from the minds of these courtiers lords (like Otto). Shows what happens to customs when they aren't favoring the people in charge. Visenya, Aegon's sister and the Kingsguard founder, opposed making the kingsguard a political appointment/reward, or one of station and birth. The only requirement was absolute loyalty, skill at arms and willingness to lay their lives for the king. Who give a damn about which knight they have unhorsed or what is the name of their father. Like half the first kingsguard was lowborn and bastards, and they did a fine job

Paddy Constadine is doing such a good job playing Viserys and I feel for the guy but I just cannot like him. By trying to be contrary and showing people that he can't be pushed this way or that, he's actually digging his own grave and the ruin of his family. How many bad choices can one man make in an episode??? 😰

Yeah I think he’s a good guy, I think he could be a good king, but he’s blind to how opportunistic and manipulative Otto is, I think. If he were a bit more headstrong, he’d be a great king.

Otto and the Maester were conspiring in that moment, even while they both verbally say something that seems like they agree with Lord Corlys. The eye acting was everything in that scene. Otto comes with the "ahh my wife also just died I wouldn't want to remarry for duty" while the Maester manipulates him into thinking he doesn't have a choice and it's actually the best match (wink wink nudge nudge to pressure him into actually making his "own choice")

I respectfully disagree about the intro. If you're going to change something, the change needs to be better than what you had before, otherwise it's needless. Nobody wants a switch to something worse. They're using the same composer, as they should because he's phenomenal, and wasting his time putting days and weeks into a theme song just to fruitlessly chase after creating something better than arguably the most beloved theme song in television history, and certainly other than perhaps The Simpsons or Batman The Animated Series, the most iconic and identifiable piece of tv music ever written. Plus, having one official theme song for all of the Westerverse (Which is the term I just invented for the GOT universe) just makes everything feel more cohesive and connected. One universe, one theme.

Viserys: Assemble the men I will go to Dragonstone Otto: I will not allow you. His head should have rolled for that. He doesn't say: "Your Grace, I beg you send me instead." or something like that. He literally just vetoed a direct decision from the king. That's how you know Viserys has lost grip and he isn't really calling the shots.

That’s true, it was definitely telling. Cause it wasn’t like, “Your grace, I cannot in good conscience watch you walk into danger. Let me go in your stead!” Type of thing. It was a well written and performed line that played with that sort of familiar trope, but made it sound like a command.

He was talking to King Viserys I, not Maegor or Aerys II who would take that as an insult or treason. By saying "I can't allow that, it's too dangerous", he shows how much he cares for the King and the Realm.

In European history, princesses younger than little Laena were often married to older boys and men; but the consummation of those marriages were delayed until the little brides were around 16; the girls would be queens, with their own chambers and ladies, and allowed to grow up and learn the ways of their husbands' courts. The marriage of Viserys and Laena might have worked if they could have held a marriage ceremony, then whisked Laena back to Driftmark for a few years so that when Viserys next saw her she'd be a more mature girl of 15 or 16 and he might actually feel attracted to her (and in the meantime found a good husband for Alicent - far away from King's Landing).

Honestly I agree with Otto when it came to choosing the Kingsguard. They're glorified bodyguards, they don't really do anything for the most part other than stand around outside rooms. So it makes sense to choose someone that maintains good relations with an important ally. Plus, it's not like the other knights aren't fully trained in combat themselves.

It’s a period of political instability though. In times of peace, the KG can be lazy. But with the succession sure to be messy, the king’s brother going rogue, and foreign enemies stewing conflict, you need genuine warriors at the king’s side.

Regarding the Great Sept of Baelor, no, it wasn't built yet as you said. The giant building you see in the first episode, and from the outside in this episode, is the Dragon Pit in all of its glory. The one where Rhaenyra and Allicent are in this episode is the Royal Sept; it's a sept located within the Red Keep. It is mentioned in both Fire & Blood and ASOIAF.

Otto went to Dragonstone to further divide Daemon and the King. Why do you think he went there with such a small guard? It wasn't to provoke an all out confrontation, that would be stupid. He took a small retinue because he knew Daemon would not consider them any kind of threat and Otto could misrepresent Daemon' to the King, completely estranging them. Daemon acted as he did to get Viserys off his ass in Kings Landing and go himself so he could talk to him without Otto's influence NOT to start a war. Daemon didn't give a fig about the egg, you see that as he just chucks it at Rhaenyra.

I don’t think daemon is trying to hurt the king I think he’s trying to talk to him or reconcile with him and took the one thing that would make him leave the council. It seems like Daemon puts family before anyone and that the council is making the king push daemon away. Otto is trying to create conflict imo and that’s why he was upset when the princess got the egg without bloodshed.

7:35 Rhaenyra is now the heir to the Iron Throne and no one on the council respects her and just see it in the scene, Otto cut Rhaenyra when she was talking and Viserys did nothing in that situation If it was Daemon he is already shutting everyone up, mainly from Otto, in the scene with Rhaenys it's Rhaenyra everything Rhaenys said to Rhaenyra is true, Rhaenyra is heir to the iron throne and even so she continues to give them wine, but the truth is she's participating in the council, but like Rhaenys said they won't want a woman Viserys shouldn't have married Alicent he made a wrong choice and now there will be consequences for his choice, viserys should have married Laena in the book she is At least Rhaenyra's age different from the series they put a child I don't know why they did that Probably to be more controversial because it's a child, but either way he should have chosen Laena and not Alicent and you'll realize his choice was a mistake when you watch the rest of the episodes.

I hope if they adapt the hedge knight, that they make it as wholesome and straight forward as it is in the book. It has its sad moments, but it’s not so grim as the rest of the series, which is why I really love it. I'm not sure I agree with you about Daemon having a sense of class to him, at least not as much as you make him out to have. At the end of the day, he still stole the dragon's egg and publicly mocked King Viserys numerous times, with the ''Heir for a Day'' jab and stealing the egg that was intended for the King's son, Baelon. This is essentially him just lashing out and wanting to get the king's attention because he feels wronged, but all he ends up doing is pissing the king off, since the king is still surrounded by people like Otto Hightower whispering in his ear every day and influencing him. I agree that he cares about his family to some degree (though I suspect he cares more about Rhaenyra than the rest of them), but he's still too much of a maverick and too dangerous to be considered a reliable ally or even family member.

daemon's bluff was so that he could get his brother to come and talk to him, otto realized that and offered to go instead such that daemon would not get to speak to viserys. it also solidifies that daemon loves his family and wouldnt harm them, he could have killed rhaenyra, her dragon and the men there if he wanted, him, his gold cloaks and caraxes were more than a match for syrax and that company.

The current king is obviously not fit to rule. He’s kind and laid back but does not have leadership qualities. Just like what Tywin Lannister described his father was like. He was a kind man but his lords didn’t respect him and house Lannister was weak in his reign. Not until Tywin came to power and restored their authority again. And Viserys dumb decisions will lead to a lot of shit as we move forward in this series.

Alicent was 18 when she married the 29yo Viserys in the book. In the show they aged up Viserys and either aged down Alicent or kept her at the same age.

King Viserys failed to look at things in a broader perspective. Whoever he marries, there is a strong posibility for him to beget a son. Now, should he die then what Rhaenys said would very well come into fruition. If Viserys married Laena, then he would have the most powerful family firmly in his side, and should be beget a son then that would surely have the Velaryon support. In addition, if he wants for Rhaenyra to continue on to be his heir, them marrying her to Laenor would solidify his will because House Velaryon would unlikely go against Laenor. Viserys' fear of Corlys over-reaching is unfounded. If Lord Corlys really wanted to start a wa and take the thorne, he easily could. His wife Princess Rhaenys has a stronger claim to the throne than Viserys and House Velaryon themselves also have dragonriders. During this time King Viserys only had 2 dragon riders - his daughter Princess Rhaenyra who rode Syrax and his brother Prince Daemon who rode Caraxes. Lord Corlys on the other hand had 3 dragons under his family's control - his wife Princess Rhaenys rode Maelys, his daugther Laena rode Vhagar (the largest of the living dragon at the time) and his son Laenor rode Seasmoke. Viserys should have married Laena, then married Rhaenyra to Laenor and then took Alicent as his mistress if henreally likes her. Otto has no solid powerbase being a second son himself, and I doubt House Hightower would commit its forces under the name of a mistress and a bastard if Viserys gets her pregnant.

I'm glad George is alive and is part of the show. He's very much a feminist, in the sense that he believes in equality and writes about the female perspective, as honestly as he can. He doesn't do it to be "woke" or to be popular. He just empathizes with his characters as best as he can. And if you truly put yourself in the shoes of many of the female characters he writes, you would reach the same conclusions and act in similar ways. You would want to change the system and break out of the box the society has put you in.

I agree with your assessment of the story. What makes this so good is that people are trying to prevent a civil war. It isn't just people outright fighting instantly. The tension is so high you can cut it with valyrian steel.

Of course the song is good, it’s legendary! But this is a new series and they didn’t even remix it or re record it with different instruments or style. It’s the EXACT same track. The intro song could have helped give it its own identity rather than just a random spinoff of the Jon snow dragon show.

Even if Jon was a woman, he would still be the next in line. Being the child of Rhaegar puts him ahead of Rhaegar's sibling in the line of succession. But obviously being a woman played a role in how she was viewed by the lords.

Only Varys was trying to put Jon on Throne , (Sansa too , thats understandable) but Varys didn't chose Jon because of he was man . Because Jon was 10 times better choice than Dany .

Let her talk man, we want to hear her view too. I mean you give really great insight but it seems like you talk over her a lot, even when she’s about to make some meaningful point, you just cut her off. And this is not some woke bs, just my observation and to be honest it doesn’t sit well with me. We are all great fans of the show, and is obvious she’s as passionate as you are so why not make her also state her points. You guys might not see it that way and I know it’s not that of a big deal but just allow her to finish her statements. I do like you guys reaction by the way.

Yeah sometimes I do talk over her when I’m excited it’s a bad habit of mine. But also we’re equals, I try to share the air as much as I feel I can while still getting to say my piece, and if she really wanted to talk, she knows this is her channel as much as mine, it’s a 50/50 split. But yeah it’s something I have to work on still

Alicent is 18. She just looks that young. And the way you look at the king i a little lacking caution. He is better than many Targaryens. Truth be told, the age-change made this very creepy in the show, in the books both Laena and Alicent were older than Rhaenyra (the first by 5 years and the second by 9)

I like the change, honestly. It adds stakes to the choice that Viserys makes, making it’s more difficult and dramatic, where Raenyra is considered.

Viserys is a good man but doesnt have the temperament to be a king. He reminds me of Ned Stark and Rob Stark good ppl but they followed their heart too much and didnt heed the warnings. Viserys is literally paving the way for his own and his family's downfall. This show is a tragedy!

Actually, Alicent is 18 years old when she is married with the king (in the book), 3 years older than Rhaenyra. Also the place that they pray is placed at the Old Town, they are not in kingslanding. Great reaction guys ❤️

I don't think many people realized that Alicent was extremely uncomfortable visiting Viserys constantly. She self hurting out of anxiety. She didn't wanted to mend the dragon figure because of the kindness of her heart, she's hating every second of it and putting a fake smile. Alicent is another victim of the system.

Alicent is not 24 years old.. Check the wiki. Alicent married the King at 18 years old and in the show, she's probably the same age or closer to the same age as 15 year old Rhaenrya as the show de-aged her slightly to strengthen the relationship between her and Rhaenyra

Rhaenys didn't had a stronger claim than Viserys, not even close, if she had her son wouldn't have lost to Viserys 20v1 in the Great Council which was between Viserys and Laenor in the book, not Viserys and Rhaenys. - Aegon I became Lord of Dragonstone and later King, not his older sister Visenya who crowned him herself; - Jaehaerys became King after the death of his older brother Aegon the Uncrowned, not his older sister Rhaena or Rhaena's daughters with Aegon. Rhaena herself ran to her little brother's cause and declared he had a stronger claim than either herself or her daughters; Jaehaerys himself named his second son Baelon over his first son's daughter, Rhaenys; - Great Council of 101 chose Viserys over Laenor because Viserys came from the male line and Laenor from the female line. By all Targaryen/Valyrian tradition and precedents, women will always be behind a male heir in the line of succesion, the tradition carried to the Baratheon line which at the beginning of GOT the succesion was Joffrey > Tommen > Stannis > Renly > Myrcella.
