I’ve noticed that Daemon hasn’t lied once… if you accuse him of something he neither confirms or denys it…. because from his perspective you’ve already came up with your answer so it doesn’t matter what he says. He never confirmed if he actually said “the heir for a day” comment. Or sleeping with Rhaenyra to Viserys.

Daemon might be many things but he loves his family and in a sick way he and Rhaenyra are perfect for eachother. I am happy Alicent and her are getting in a better place question is how long will it last ?!

I feel that Daemon absolutely knows about the spying. He literally took of Rhaenyra's hat, which shows off her signature hair that ONLY the royal family has.

The Mysaria thing is vague -- some people have theories that Daemon knows about her having spies and he wanted to get caught so he could push to marry Rhaenerya, but she could also be betraying him -- but yes it was her spy that told Otto

She didn't lie to Allicent, she swore on her mother because it was true...she didn't have the "final act" with Daemon, so she manipulated the words to tell the truth, she was just agitated because in fact she did something, except that with Cole...the ACTRESS HERSELF confirmed this in the extra video they release after the episode, just go there and watch it...

There’s some interesting interpretations out there so far. Notice how Daemon took off Rhaenyra’s hat when they went lower into the brothers, he wanted people to see them, notice Targaryen hair. Daemon loves his family but also wants to get back at his brother the King for his insults. He wanted to hurt Viserys by using Rhaenyra’s crush on him. He also does like her I think, but when he say in her eyes how much them having sex would mean to her- he felt guilty and couldn’t go thru with it!

Rhaenyra knew the truth of what happened when she lied. That's the thing about this show, there are no purely good/bad characters, everyone is grey and they will do both good and terrible things.

The boy that killed that guy at the start is a Blackwood and the guy is a Bracken. Their houses are fierce rivals and have been slaughtering each other for legit thousands of years. In the books Daemon giving up his crown has more to do with him just not able to keep it since it meant just constant war and ruling rather bored him.

It's alright to feel bad about Otto. Yes, he takes his chances for the interest of his own house, but he's not as sinister as Tywin or Littlefinger. But no, he went straight to the king and said the information in private.

While they don't go in that direction in the show (because Alicent is younger in the show), they probably leave in some certain vibes how Alicent is reacting to Daemon. 😁😁 We already saw that in the pilot. 34:59 "She's very proper!" - You sweet summer child! 😁It's always the proper ones! Otto's biggest mistake in Viserys's head was about the Velaryons and the battle in stepstones, Otto's council was destructive to Viserys' reign, he tried everything to make Visery's looks weak and to put his own family at the highest position. He used Viserys as a pawn for a long time.

Daemon WANTED the news of him and Rhaenyra to get back to the King. That is why he took her to a public pleasure house and made sure their hair was uncovered, so people would recognize them. That was all part of his plan. I agree with Ange that Damon put a stop to it bc he deep down knew it was wrong and started feeling guilty using Rhaenyra that way, because he does actually care for her.

It slightly annoys me when people think what Daemon did was unrealistic. Shooting with a relatively primitive bow and aiming for a moving target 100 plus meters away is extremely hard. Not even the world's best archers could hit such targets even remotely reliable. Bows are usually only effective under a distance of 50 meters, and for a fast moving target like Daemon was, maybe only at 20 meters or under. Arrows are not bullets. You have to not only be accurate, you also have to predict where your target is heading. Not to mention, Daemon was not running at the same speed and direction the whole time. Slightly changing direction or speed and the arrow will miss, even if you made the perfect 1 in a million shot.

Daemon made a move, he setup both Rhaenyra and Otto at the same time. Notice that the msg was sent by Mysaria. He also knew that thing in the brothel reaches the crown like the "heir for a day" which is why when they were nearing the brothel, he removed the disguise

This is what makes these shows so good. The twists dammit. 4 episodes in and I'm sure it's doing better than another fantasy show....

Her being caught in a brothel with her uncle could destroy her reputation and limit her options in marriage in which Alicent has been invested in getting good matches for her. Oh man when Viserys called out Otto! My heart was racing! I didn't feel bad because all of what Viserys said was true and Otto really did send Alicent to "comfort" the king and Otto tried to say it was false. I really like the idea of Duty vs Pleasure with Alicent and Rhaenyra. It's so clearly represented in this show. Alicent has always tried to be a proper lady throughout and Rhaenyra constantly fighting her realm duties to do what she wants. Rhaenyra did seem like a spoiled brat in this episode. Be careful rewatching GOT there's spoilers for HOTD! I don't remember what it is but I would hate for y'all to spoil yourselves.

Sorry, long post but I *_love_* the Rhaenyra and Alicent scene... Whether or not people think Rhaenyra technically lied or not, the deceitful behaviours are pretty strong. She tried almost every method in the liar playbook... She started with denial of all knowledge "What do you mean?" Then when Alicent revealed she knew something Rhaenyra tried laughing it off and making it seem like no big deal while also confessing to smaller crimes to evade the larger crime "That I drank wine? Left the castle after dark?". Then when Alicent lays on the real accusation Rhaenyra has a long pause to consider her response and goes for outrage and anger, and being offended by the accusation "This is a vile accusation" but the delay in being offended makes it feel insincere. Then suddenly she switches tactics to polite and familiar, again showing the insincerity of her emotions and the manipulation she's attempting, practically begging for belief "Alicent, Your Grace, sister, you must know I would never...". Then the tide turns: She jumps on the opportunity to make Alicent question herself "Told!? Who made these claims?" and tries to pull rank, firing back with accusations of her own "I am the princess", "an act of treason!" and makes Alicent feel bad for what she's said "[shaking head in disapproval or disbelief] So you are accusing me of slanders you overheard?" Now Rhaenyra is in control and Alicent is almost begging forgiveness for raising the accusations "I only want to help you Rhaenyra". So far Rhaenyra has offered no explanation other than Daemon wanted to show her the city and they drank wine. Only now does Rhaenyra delve into her account of the night's events: The best lies are based on the truth. They did drink, it was getting late, they did go to a show in a brothel, Daemon did sink into his cups and abandon her for some whore (in a sense). Saying she had no choice as Daemon was her escort is true enough, but is an attempt to shift blame to him rather than her. Her emotions of being hurt for being abandoned are genuine, and the line "I should have known better" is genuine (also implied as genuine by the music). But the rest of her story is misleading at best, and arguably an outright lie: she did not want to go home "who knows when I'll next taste freedom", she was the one who "wanted to continue" by trying to kiss Daemon as he pulled away, and it was Daemon in the end who did not want to continue. Saying she was "only a spectator" and "didn't do anything" isn't true, but she didn't do what Alicent fears. And the big one, on the memory of her mother - "Daemon never touched me" (the music here helps to suggest this is a big deal). Taken literally this is a lie, he touched her and in a sexual manner... but how Alicent interprets this "She swore to me she remains a maiden" is true as far as the Daemon incident is concerned, although it's not actually what Rhaenyra swore. At the end of the conversation the tense music relaxes and fades out as Alicent accepts Rhaenyra's story as true. Alicent has been misled but her conclusion was true... until Ser Criston comes into the picture, but that's a secret for the time being!

Laenor 🖤 (future hubby to Rhaenyra) 10. Laena 🖤 (she'll eventually marry a Chad) This is where I wanted the TV writers to take me. I want to be torn between choosing Rhaenyra or Alicent. They're now right next to each other this week. Maybe I'm still Team Black but I may end up liking Alicent a little more over Rhaenyra? Alicent is a victim to her dad's schemes. I probably still like Ray-near-ah more than Alicent even if Alicent has accepted her forced woman duties that she hates while Rhaenyra is acting like a spoiled brat about it. Perhaps traumatized by her mother's death. I enjoy Rhaenyra's savage quips. She's a lot like Daemon. Brats. Rebels. Adventurers. Don't obey to rules. They're perfect for each other. I chuckled when she alluded how really old Lord Beric is. Rhaenyra is like Dany/Arya but with a lot more sass like Olenna. The character who really is winning me over is Viserys. Yes, I'm aware of all the criticisms from the decisions he made. But I find him fascinating. He's more complicated than Daemon so far. And in the book, he was written as 2D. Paddy has added more layers to him. Enhanced what's written about him. I'm aware Alicent isn't popular among book fans. Most Greens aren't. But I like the TV version of her so far. While Otto hasn't been interesting since Ep 2, it's been Alicent who keeps improving each week. She started at 9th after Ep 2. Then 6th after Ep 3. Now she's 5th after Ep 4. Can't wait when Olivia Cooke takes over by Ep 6. I'm the type of viewer who can enjoy characters from both sides. What if I really like Aemond and Alys Rivers (Elizabeth Olsen?)? I'm not so black or white with characters. I can enjoy the baddies. And being an antagonist is based on perception. Maleficent and Cruella became protagonists to their own origin stories. Look at Cobra Kai. The writers made bad guys from The Karate Kid 1, 2, & 3 likeable. I love Johnny Lawrence and Chozen! And enjoyed seeing Terry Silver being more evil and Mike Barnes' return. For all we know, Targs are really the villains. We just don't see it that way because HOT D is based on them. Daemon was just chill in this episode. Ok, he was drunk. Seduced his niece. But how far did he really go with her? First base? But no bad*ss quotes or moments. Did rode Caraxes back to KL, had a pimp walk when approaching Viserys, and wore a cool hoodie like Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. But Daemon was the least cool/bad*ss here. Since Ep 3 was so bad*ss for Daemon, he's safe at the top for the rest of the series. What more could you want from him? He's shown a lot of great qualities as a likeable character after only 3 eps. Alpha. Fearless. Heroic. Loyal and compassionate to his family. He's also shown a few bad qualities like short-tempered, arrogant, and stubborn that diehard fans can overlook. Hey, nobody is perfect. He appeals to male, female, and queer viewers. Notice Ep 2 and 4 are titled after his aliases. Another ep will probably be titled Lord Flea Bottom. Daemon really has a lot of qualities from old heroes like Sir Lancelot and Robin Hood. He is a Prince who can hang around the Red Keep but would rather stay with the common folks and party in brothels. I bet when GRRM was writing that character, he was impressed how well he wrote him. GRRM is really more like Samwell, but he wouldn't mind being Daemon in his books.

Otto didn't have Rhaenyra followed at all, nobody knew about the secret passage. That boy that saw Rhaenyra leaving the brothel was just chillin and all the low class kids probably knew if they saw something of interest they'd get some reward from reporting to Mysaria or whoever. Otto wasn't scheming and so far hasn't given Viserys any bad advice. He really thought pushing Daemon away from the throne in the first episodes was best for the realm and he's also not wrong about the potential war that will erupt if Rhaenyra becomes queen instead of Aegon II. You can't change hundreds or thousands of years of people's customs without expecting a revolt. Otto gets a lot of hate for pushing Alicent to Viserys but that's the only questionable thing he's done really (and he also did it so the King would have a male heir to prevent any BS that could unravel if the only options for the throne were Daemon and Rhaenyra).

daemon has bedroom difficulties we saw in the first episode

I think this is the episode where you see Rhaenyra's foolishness and entitlement. She wants to be heir and become Queen, but she refuses to play by the rules (for example blatantly telling her father she does not want to get married, not realising that this weakens her as an heir), even though they've already been bent for her a huge amount when Viserys named her heir. I am not saying the rules are fair (they are rubbish) but just as Viserys made a huge mistake in wedding the person he fancied, and putting liking over duty, Rhaenyra made a huge mistake A. getting herself in this very messy position, B. lying to Alicent who up until that point is defending her. This is the moment where the true tragedy commences...

Daemon and Rhaenyra did not have sex. Daemon became impotent because Rhaenyra took control of the situation and he was not feeling that. He needs to be in control. Of course, in addition to some guilt.

Hey guys, if you're re-watching GoT, you should absolutely skip episode 4x02. You already know what happens in the episode, and it has a major, major, really major spoiler for House of the Dragon in the dialogue!! I hope you read this, either from me or anyone else! Also, great reactions and discussions.

Something that caught my eye in Daemon rejecting Rhaenyra, was that sudden outburst of frustration and then leaving the sexual encounter completely. This reminded me a lot of the scene between Daemon and Mysaria in the first episode where he almost exactly shows the same behavior. In the scene from the first episode I got the feeling that Daemon is perhaps becoming impotent, or something similar. In the way I interpreted D&R's encounter, he leaves her there out of frustration/embarrassment, rather than out of disrespect/cruelty. I could be very much wrong in my interpretation, just my personal feelings atm.

Like most I missed it too. Daemon's issue was not that he cares about Rhaenyra he is impudent . ( Or maybe even gay. Since taking a partner from behind allows him to start. But face to face things, wink, don't work.) This is why he HATES his bride, because he can't preform and make her pregnant. So the issues has to be her, not his inability. The White Worm might have been able to come up with something to help in the short term, but they stopped. He fills that the King can make a lie truth, so if he became KIng he could tell people some random kids are his or that he made his Queen pregnant, but someone else did. That way the world never finds out his secret.

After this she will be with ser harwin, sad that it only last until episode 6 and otto will come back in episode 7

You mentioned making your own family tree connections with GoT and that's great, but I'd advise not looking up any family trees online as this is very likely to spoil events of HotD.

Idk for sure but to me it looks like Daemon isn't planning anything in particular. He's just self destructive.

Lots of layers and parallels in this episode, it's deeper than it appears on the surface I think
