The dynamics of parent-child bond between Otto and Alicent is reflected onto Alicent and her own children: Aegon, Haelena, and Aemond. Alicent never received compassion, warmth, affection, and sympathy from her dad; hence, she is unable to offer such actions and emotions toward her own children. She tries to confess her sins to Otto but he doesn't have the time for Alicent, his own daughter. For Otto, everything is about practical usage and rationality, no emotion and no feelings. As such, Alicent tries to justify her actions to Haelena, unable to fathom her daughter's state mind slowly descending into psychotic breakdown. Since Alicent is unable to provide comfort for her children having received none herself from her father, her children seek it elsewhere by themselves: Aegon cries by himself in anger and despair, Aemond seeks comfort in brothel, showing regret for his past actions.

@@youngmyth I think it circles back to the theme of viserys being a weak king, for allowing the crucial decision of naming a kingsguard to fall into the hands of his young daughter rhaenyra. She ended up choosing hastily and almost spitefully. Clearly cole has no business being a kingsguard, his motivations are not meant to be as complex as other characters, he is just a flawed, emotional dude in over his head. Even when named hand, he is clearly thinking "this is a mistake"

Yeah I’m not following you mate. Sounds like you’ve simply chosen the house of dragon. From what I’ve seen he opportunistically took power because as we know in this world, peaceful transitions of power are rare (from his perspective, who knows what would have happened to his daughter and the king’s children who at least had proximity to the throne and whose presence would have always presented a threat)? So yeah if you look at things objectively, he’s probably the sanest person on the damn show. My issue is with the writing (is this how the books were written!??) no way the greens and the blacks are that dumb at every turn

I suppose Halaena and Alicent will still be in mourning because while the dresses are different the veils are the same.

That whole conversation becomes more interesting, because if history is so biased claiming Cole was both good and bad does the white book that seems to have such a monumental effect on Jaime's character arc even matter?

Otto believed he was such a genius with how he schemed to put Aegon II on the throne, and that scene was where he realized his plans were crashing down around him at the hands of the person he specifically thought he could control. As is so often the case in this series, a player is brought down because his pawns suddenly refuse to do what they're told. In the end, Otto found himself in the unfortunate position of trying to be Tywin Lannister to Aegon's Joffrey, but *his* young impetuous king is actually of age to rule in his own name, so Otto can't just send him off to bed and is actually subject to Aegon's decisions.

I hated him last season, but it's crazy that in this episode, he's the sanest among the Greens. Aegon is a raring for war Haelena is grief stricken Cole plans to kill Rhaenyra Alicent cycles through pray repent and fck throughout the brewing danger And Otto is still planning the long game, but is falling apart because either because he's not ruthless like Tywin nor as brilliant as Tyrion He was smart enough for raising his family to the throne, but is bad at keeping everything together once he's there. 🫣 I appreciate the effort though.

The takeaway message from the Cargyll Bowl is a literal and very painful reminder that everyone (humans and dragons) that go to war here is like brother against brother, blood against blood, etc. It's a civil war, many innocents will die and amongst them dragons will go extinct. The difference between Rhaenyra and Alicent as mothers was further showcased in this episode. Rhaenyra hugged/ consoled Jacaerys after he learnt about his brother's death whilst Alicent left a crying Aegon to go and sleep with her bf.

I agree, but isn't the same situation. Rhaenyra had children with people she loved, unlike alicent. Alicent was a child who was forced to marry. Certainly this could led her to having difficulty in loving the children. Also, unlike Jace, Aegon is a disgusting person, and alicent knows it. Remember when he raped that girl in season 1

Also I found it interesting that Rhaenyra and Daemon’s fight never turned sexual. Alicent acted like a petulant child who couldn’t even use words with Criston and of course neither had the strength to drop their terrible relationship that directly played into her grandson’s death. Trying to find some empathy for her but it’s wearing thin.

If they had simply bowed down to the targs, is it a 100% certainty demon wouldn’t pull some “hey your grandkids’ mere existence is a threat to you, my Queen” crap? I don’t think it is, and aside from being opportunistic, I think that’s legitimate rationale for his actions. Daemon, Aegon and Aemond are similarly puerile and vengeful characters who are not fit for rule because they can’t be trusted. Aemond though I believe can be controlled.

Yup, his dragon's name is Tessarion. As per book, she is blue-bronze in colour. Daeron is one of the very rare likeable, good character from the green side, just like halaena. He and his dragon has important roles in future battles during the dance as per the books.

Even though he got fired, it was an absolute joy to see Otto lose his cool and in essence tell Aegon, " I don't care that you are king! I'm you grandfather, I'll speak to you any way I want!" That whole sequence was master class in acting from Rhys Ifans.

I saw the green pieces that they were throwing during the funeral as a nod to ashes of green and When Rhaenyra is looking out the window, she is looking at ashes of black and a sort of symbolism for both families burning down.

The realm respected him and that’s why there was peace virtually through his reign. Otto Hightower similarly is no fool to accomplish that. But I think hen needs a competent enough vessel to rule properly.

At Laena's funeral, Rhaena and Baela were both sympathetic to Jace that Harwin Strong had just died and he was also mourning a parent. And Otto was right, whatever Viserys did or did not say. No one would have just believed Alicent and it was Otto and his years of scheming that put an alliance in place to put Aegon on the throne before the Realm knew anything.

Battle of the Twins was a little disappointing. Didn’t have the impact for me anyway. It was a decent fight but some of the story seems to be suffering from the same thing the Disney Star Wars story is having and that’s telling us what should be emotionally impactful instead of showing us. If they do show us, it’s so fleeting as to not make the intended impact…imo 🤷🏾‍♂️
