James Williams 777 $5,000, minimal quality and without building structural restrictions, not counting the installation job. Edit: But in real life, that wouldn’t be possible. In an office like that, the space between floors isn’t big enough (standard 8’-10’) for a solid wall to move straight up. Can only move horizontally, sliding or rotating walls that open like doors. But I guess the production went for the easiest, lifting the fake wall up in that studio.
im willing to bet its a normal part of the set to remove that wall easily for camera angles and they probably said " you know if we work this into a episode id be a very house thing to do" and put a motor on it
Just to argue the point. It could be it was a big space by default. When buildings are made, they are often very bare, and half off the walls are set by how the company wants the spacing to be. They do not affect integrity. Good example is a parking garage below a building. There's so much space, and very little walls. It's the pillars that do the lifting. They are easily removed, and also easily set. From a pure what-it-is point of view. I wouldn't even be surprised if some company pre-fabricates these wall systems.
Some buildings have walls like these from the get go - to help convert the space into a larger area if necessary. Generally it's just a concertina door (canvas folder door) or folding walls - but one that rolls into the ceiling, not so often.
So where did the wall go when it was open? Through the concrete structure supporting the floor above? Maybe through a portal and into a parallel dimension?
Meh, it wouldn't be as funny if he didn't see it coming. Like he knows House WOULD do something like this (like you see he's not even surprised), but if he knew that'd spoil it imo
It would be quite comedic if Wilson had the remote to just close it again. Wilson can match House's pranks and intellect. We saw that at its height during Seasons 2 and 5 when he sawed House's cane halfway through so it would break during their joint walks, or when he used Amber's name to trick House into believing he is dating a former hooker.
@@mavoc3094 the construction was loud as hell so it might be that wilson just didn't enter his office for more than 10 minutes and did the rest of the stuff elsewhere
The first time I saw this, I was laughing for maybe twenty minutes. It's the ducklings WTF expressions and the fact Wilson doesn't react at all because at this point, he's seen it all.
I love how you can basically imagine there being a whole conversation between House and WIlson, simply pared down to House raising his glass and Wilson nonchalantly saying 'No.'
Paying for contractors: 400 dollars Destroying a wall: 200 dollars Making a rising wall: 800 dollars Adding a switch: 10 dollars The look on Wilson's face when his wall rises: Priceless. For everything else, theres House.
This is why Wilson is by far my favourite character on this show. The way he just nonchalantly glances at the "door" and then calmly says 'no'. 😂 Wilson is just such a great character.
I like him because on first glance he seems like a regular "good boy" who plays by the rules when in reality he's more similar to House than anyone else in the show. It's always funny to see the reactions of others in the show when they see Wilson do crazy stuff.
The funniest part is it always did that in real life, it's how they filmed scenes from that perspective in House's and Wilson's offices, the cameramen just stood in the other office filming through.
Especially when camera and lighting rigs used to be quite bulky it was pretty much mandatory to have modular sets in case you needed to get multiple angles of the same scene.
Anyone who knows anything about construction in a workplace building knows how insane this is. He made a structural change to the building. Which means he had to ask approval of the building owner, facility management and a third party engineering company to perform a 1 minute prank. I am impressed.
I enjoy thinking about what this construction meant for the floor above...if there's a wall it had to be hollowed out and if there wasn't a wall then now there is. I hope it was the middle of a conference room
i agree. house and wilson always had such a close connection. ever since that episode where wilson and house's backstory (house bailing out wilson for smashing an antique mirror!), i've always rooted for them as a yaoi couple. it's such a shame that hugh laurie and sean leonard roberts didn't get married in real life, but i guess life doesn't always turn out how you want. anyway, have a good day stranger, enjoy the like on your comment!
To put it in context, the whole point of the episode was that foreman was keeping an eye on him so house never left the hospital while he hired an entire construction crew to make this happen
@Joker Army there’s a theory that the overarching plot of house was that chase eventually becomes the next house (I can’t remember all the details so maybe look it up or something) so it’s cool that you noticed they even start dressing very similarly. Also, this theory was in a yt comment under a video posted by the official House, MD channel, and they hearted the comment, so that adds some credibility lol
I love it how Chase and Taub are also so used to House’s childish antics that they’re not especially surprised when compared to the girls. And Wilson just glances up like “huh, so THATS why they have been installing a roller door in my office”.
I love the changes in the reaction on Taub's face as the scene progresses 😂 Goes from pure confusion, to a quirky smile once he figures out that it's all just to annoy Wilson
Hahaha , He left everyone the whole episode in mystery , everyone wondering what secret is going on and what’s the workers making behind that curtain , and all this time it was a fricking Contracting Wall just to annoy Wilson , hilarious 😂😂
For a person who has only watched clips of his show, you can give this a secondary title: House without context. I am confused. Although I get Wilson's reaction.
Everyone: Talks about House/Wilson relationship Me: How do they install a solid, non-folding garage door inside a hospital? The door (wall) panel goes straight up to another floor...
Would work if the wall was thicker on the upper floor, and just folded inside the other wall - although the sound isolation would be terrible when the wall wasn't "up".
@@ChristianSandviknes I thought of that too (the door panel will be inside the upper floor's wall), but usually building's floor will have steel mesh in the concrete, really hard to hack through. So either the top floor ceiling is really high (from the ceiling board) or House hired a really good (& usually expansive) high-end engineering contractor.
Where did you get that nugget of information from? TV sets like that usually don't fuck around with complicated and expensive solutions like that if they can avoid them. They would make prop walls that can be easily be moved by hand before they would build an expensive motorized version like that only to get a better angle for filming. I highly doubt that this wall wasn't specifically made for that shot.
@@Slim08151 The actual wall doesn't need to be motorized, it could just be some stagehands pulling it up by hand with the sound of the motor edited in.
@@ajc1476incorrect, his first office in episode s01e18 was in another part of the hospital. It was in a corridor behind a twin door, on the right. His desk was facing his door and it didn’t have any balcony.
Aww, the bit where Wilson goes 'No' and the wall comes down really makes it funnier than this. Still, I laughed, I was expecting a lovebed or a wall stacked high with vicodin, but the Wilson bit was even funnier.
Imagine being in your office that you owned for maybe like 20 years. And have made minimal changes whatsoever. One day you're chilling, and all of the sudden, your front wall raises slowly and connects to your friend's department area, with your friend sarcastically standing there with a martini toasting to you... yea... no
Every time I rewatch house I can't help think about the person that said that the show would've been just as good if Wilson was actually houses other personality that only he can see but other people acknowledge him as both house and Wilson
MrZakooza It was actually just a short skit that should be treated as non-canon. The wall was always like that from the beginning of the series as where they get some shots for scenes inside Wilson's office and they decided to put it in the show as a joke about Wilson and House's bromance.
Best part is the faces of the Team in the last second... Taub: „Hahaha, this crazy guy!“ Chase: „WTF?!“ Park: „Hmmmm...“ Adams: „Oh man, that‘s so childish.“
Meanwhile in the room above a surprised doctor is suddenly confronted by a wall rising out of the floor. For a brief second they wonder what could be going on and then remembers that House is on the floor below.
