black tie my arse. It is ok for a women to wear a gown or cocktail dress. You can wear that again and again. But to expect a guy to buy a tux or rent a tux to wear one time.... ridiculous. Suit and tie is just fine for guests. Cut back on the wedding gift if you need to spend hundreds on a tux rental
IMO buying a Tuxedo is MUCH easier to wear again and again than a dress that goes in and out of fashion....H&M, Zara and other places do tuxes fairly inexpensively. Also, quite easy to lend one to friends of similar build (suit pants can be worn). But just as an eg my Pa's Tuxedo has been worn not only by him but his sons, his niece's husband, friends etc - and that's for over 30 yrs - savings on rentals HUGE! Anyway, happy savings!
A tux is easy to buy or rent and you can use it again. Whereas women get criticised for wearing the same dress twice. You can get away with a suit for those.kinds of events too

Wow, just make sure you agree on needs VS. Wants, split the tasks, make a budget, STICK TO IT, and if you have to go over, DISCUSS it calmly... It's not that difficult. If you can, keep an emergency fund.
