This is actually so perfect and amazing and deserves way more views than it currently has, I can tell you've put so much thought and passion into this and you've done a BRILLIANT job of showing all the sides of this wonderful family/house
My bad. I never commented on the vid. This is spectacular. There is so much to love about it. I especially loved the cut at 3:52, where you make it feel like the older and new generations of Stark kids are looking at each other. It just makes me love the Starks even more.
People tend to identify the Starks as the heroes because they are a big family with quite nice relationships between them. They are "right". That's why they were so shocked when Ned died at the end of the 1st season. "What the hell, the main character dies?" So people have more empathy for them, it's quite natural, especially when their "normal" family relationships remind us of our own family, with caring parents and siblings. (esp. compared to the weird Lannisters, Greygoys or Targaryens xD) I like this family, really I do. But separately, they are not my favorite characters. Except, maybe, Arya. But because the Starks are too right, too pure, too honourable (at least during the first seasons), I have a hard time to identify myself to them. I have more empathy for characters like Jaime or the Hound or even Cercei. These characters ARE humans, they aren't heroes. So they make mistakes, they can be cruel...they are humans after all :/ Except now for Cercei who is a robot at the end of season 6, but that's not the point xD
Hmm. But all the Starks could be shits at times. That's very human. None of them were perfect. Catelyn was a shit to Jon and Tyrion. Sansa was very bratty and spoiled and a shit to Tyrion who was trying to help her. And even now she isn't completely opening up to Jon. Jon was very entitled and emo when he first came to the Wall. Robb was sometimes really snide to Theon about his status in the family and rude Tyrion when he was coming to help Bran (even though then he thought the the Lannisters were out to kill his brother). Ned was honorable to a fault, but tended to look down on people that weren't warriors and don't react like warriors. Bran and Rickon where children so I won't judge them harshly. I love Arya to death so I don't feel like find fault with her, but it's obvious that the girl has issues. Thought that just make me love her more. Biggest fault with the Starks is that they rarely reassess as situation. They tend to barrel in with vigor and passion. But that's just another thing that makes them human.
djsosonut Yes, I see what you mean, there have faults too. I guess it's just my pov ;) I thought they had ("had,", because as you pointed out, their characters change along the seasons) personalities that were too flat, too stereotypical in my opinion. The honourable father, the good lad as a big brother, the moping bastard whose life is unfair... But of course they have faults too and that's why they died :/ It's just that their personalities never triggered me to love them as my fave characters... (I'm not talking about Arya oc ;) But what I'm talking about is mostly the first seasons. Even though I never got to love Robb or Catelyn, I started to like Sansa more and more and really appreciated Jon after he returned from the Wildlings' side. But my heart will forever go to book-Jaime, Brienne, the Hound and his chickens
djsosonut *Sorry for spamming :P And okay, they are humans, they have faults, but when you compare them to the other characters of the show well, they are undoubtlessly the heroes xD At least during the first seasons, when you don't really know the traits of others except maybe Tyrion. At least that's what I felt. I felt this even more in the books where you have the POV from the different Starks until Ned's death. Then you have the POV of other characters like the Lannisters, the "enemies" and you understand them more. At that moment, it was as if the writer was next to me and saying: "See? There are the "heroes", but if you like you can chose someone else too, there are here in the story and you can like them too!". And I chose to like them :)
There are no words to describe how much I love this video!!! (And them) But I've seen so many videos that's only about Sansa, Jon Arya and Bran, so I LOVE that you showed a lot of clips for all of them, that also makes this 100% a Stark tribute! :D
