Same apartment, different tour. We’re back with Brian, who gives us a in-depth look at his apartment. We love the natural light, the furniture and… Brian. What’s your favorite part of the tour? Let us know in the comments.
I love Brian, too! What an incredibly charming and likeable guy. I'd watch anything he narrated. I couldn't help trying to strategize how he could unblock his fireplace and wondered about hanging the TV above it and then putting the sofa against the wall where the TV had originally been, but it may be too long given the placement of the loft ladder. Given how much he enjoys entertaining and the other homey, cozy elements in his apartment, having that fireplace available, even just for show, would be so great.
What is the history of building? I would like to know more about the origins of this unique design. I mean you never see something like this, those windows alone. This is how everyone should live. We all deserve a wall of windows and glorious light filled rooms. Can link any info on this building? Thanks.
He's done a great job with such an angular space. I love small apartments... especially if they have unique layouts. I would put a glass or marble top on that radiator so it could function as a small table. I would probably set my mattress so that the foot of it is where the ladder is... no fear of falling from that angle. And I would definitely have some interesting window coverings to control the light (and sun heat)... maybe some woven wood shades to add some texture. I might even paint the wall beneath the loft a dark accent color. It's a really cool space.
Pillows for the couch, can move over to radiator when used for seating. Also a large oblong tray can turn radiator into a table. TV would have looked great off center over the fireplace. Fireplace needs to be featured. Feel good SPACE and very detailed sweet tour. When he said the shoe rack was a “first adulting design” that cracked me up. Could be a fun question in the future for tours. Most of these APT therapy tours are with young adults. Luvin the content, always inspiring.
So sad the fireplace has to be hidden but his selection of that loveseat was great because he can change the layout pretty easily without hindering his walk space. Lovely apartment!
@@Goldenretriever-k8m Why is it sad? The thing is probably unusable made back in the second century. I would think sitting on the sofa more enjoyable than looking at a useless area.
Luvly decorated space and I luv all the plants and the amount of light that you receive in the loft... On the subject of following out of bed it is a real concern, my husband recently came home after a 2 1/2 month stay at a trauma and rehab center... he fell out of bed and it was only 3ft of the ground... take care and be safe.
Reminds me of an attic with all the intriguing angles and skylight windows. The white walls and numerous windows really opens up the space. Great design. The loft bed area not so thrilled about (heights scare me).
I love this so much! Instead of the chair I would have built a really simple long bench/ window seat over the radiator which adds a seating space for 4+ people ☺️
I love it! It's very cozy, but beautiful and perfect for one person. I like how even in a space so small, zones are created and a good flow is established. Well done! Edit: You could have custom made (or DIY) bench-type padding like the ones you see on outdoor furniture, put it under couch, and when you have guests over take it out and place it on radiator! Alternatively, you could fold over a couple throw blankets and place them on radiator so it's more comfortable.
That's what I was wondering as well, but looking at that space again, would that edges of the TV "compete" with the slant of the wall? 🤔 Hmm. It is a shame to cover the fireplace, functioning or not. Beautiful space though.
I would 've installed a projector with a pull up screen, instead of this ginormous black tv. Like in a campervan. This way he can put the couch opposite that lovely fireplace.
@@ihogenhuis960 I saw a really cool tour on Elena Tabor’s channel with a short-range projector. It can sit on a table just a few inches from the wall it’s projecting onto. I think the tour is of an apartment in Bushwick if that helps you find it. :)
Your space is beautiful. So much natural Iight! I love the tweaks to the kitchen. I think your set up is beautiful too. Cosy and spacious at the same time. 10 stars. 🌻😀
Great place and he seems to be a nice guy, too! He can also think to use pillows for the radiator and the windows seats. Pillows with the right colour and texture will maximize the coziness of this beautiful home. Personally, I would paint the fireplace's wall with a peaceful and earthy green sage colour and use the fireplace as bookstore, so it would give more depth and character to the space.🌻
I love the small apartment. You used the space well! Love all the plants. I like an apartment with a lot of natural light because I too, have houseplants. Nice job on the apartment.
I really hope that this is a safe space to ask this question 😅 but I am really curious as to how people afford to live in NYC? Is it a matter of perhaps living in a different borough outside of Manhattan? Are the salaries there competitive so that people can afford rent? Do people share rent with roommates? Brian did an amazing job , the space look so cozy and beautiful and functional but the price, from my context (South Africa) is just astounding to me. I'm really really curious. 😅
I know what you mean. I live in Iowa and pay 465 a month for a nice two bedroom. The idea of paying that much each month would give me anxiety but I'm sure they make much more money there and that there is obviously have a lot more to do in NY. Cute apartment.
The rent went up so much post covid break oof this city i tell ya. This is lovely though and dream west village apt 🥺 “just celebrating the space” iktr
Love the the airy space and natural light. Very smart and efficient floor planning. Nice neutral decoration balanced with colorful furnitures to add cheers to this home. Owner seems to have tons of friends in mind to invite over. Just beware of the windows and the fire escape where thieves may come uninvited (hopefully they won’t find the ladder to your sleeping area).
Uh love the tour and injected sense of humor. Dude, your space is so cool and has this definite chill vibe. You made it work and heck, you and the plants are happy 😊. Here's a thought, if not previously suggested, flip the sofa and mount the tv over the fireplace. Place some candles, maybe a nice round bar station or wall shelves and wallah -- the fireplace debuts. And the radiator (a character piece in any room), maybe a leather or body pillow could cushion ones bottom for seating. Overall, love the space & thanks for sharing.
This place is blessed with so many windows and natural lights. The exterior is part of the space so it never feels like 350 sq. ft. Would be nice to get the link of the previous tenant's version.
Very nice unique place. Lots of natural light which is a plus. It's unfortunate that you have to hide the fireplace. Love all the windows especially that you can open them. But it looks like it would be a pain to clean them. Maybe adding pillows by the radiator stacked on the floor would make a difference. The mirrors make the place look bigger and also reflect the light. The downfall is the loft. If I was younger maybe it wouldn't matter. Skylights are a plus too. Would be a nice beginner apartment.
Nice design work. This studio is not worth $3,500. With that kind of money he can get something bigger, like a small house. But if he loves it, I'm happy for him and his creative spirit. Enjoy your home. Keep on creating and making change.
Hallelujah to putting the TV where you can actually watch it comfortably! And 100% the right couch placement for the space in my eyes for multiple reasons (flow, functionality (access to the bathroom and loft ladder!!), plus more places for the eye to travel, including actually seeing out the full length of those great windows! MUCH prefer that to blocking the bathroom as in the prior tenant's layout (no shade on him), or staring at a foreshortened view of a heavy, non-functioning fireplace and the intense diagonal of the wall pointing the eye towards a dark corner. Kudos for being bold and listening to your intuition about what ACTUALLY looks and feels best in the space! ❤ Also love the strategic placement of mirrors and plants (I think he's more of a green thumb than he recognizes based on that mister action towards the end lol ; - ), and the wood-look counter decal and lights under the cabinets in the kitchen. Such simple, renter-friendly hacks yet they do indeed make the space so much more homey! And LOL to this: "...me finally becoming an adult, putting my shoes on a rack." Guess I'm still waiting! ; - D Congratulations on such a thoughtful, effective, and beautiful transformation! 🪴❤🪴
Really love this apartment. The palette is very earthy and energizing. And Brian has definitely got an eye for detail. But I do feel sorry to see the small loft bedroom...even if it works for him. And all the time I was wondering whether how he managed to open the top door of the fridge.
love this appartements except for the chimney, why would you block a chimney ? 😭 also I’d put a slab of marble with a removable cushion on top of the radiator
It's pretty and improvement.. but why another video on a new Yorker justifying how living in a tiny space is really not inconvenient? How about featuring another type of apt?
space snob are we - I have lived in my 350 sq ft studio apt (no loft) for 26 yrs and am planning on “aging in place” by reorganizing the space as my needs change - turns out 350 sq ft basically same size as a two car garage and there is nothing I am missing - with a very generous balcony I never felt confined during the quarantines of pandemic - have even slept out on the balcony on my chaise lounge during a 24 hr power outage - 350 sq ft definitely no cupboard - I am “living well” and it definitely seems this gentleman is too - maybe it’s you who aren’t satisfied with your living arrangements - just saying
Unique space. Nice guy. Great plants. Wonderful light…. In my opinion there’s a bit of an opportunity in the way it’s staged / arranged. I’m sure that’s easier said than done though.
I would add a board and pillow to the top of the radiator in off season as extra seating. And I would NEVER pay that much for such a tiny space. I would live further out and commute. You can get a lot done on the train.
Should have mounted tv over fireplace or had it floating on clear glass tv stand with wheels...then you wouldn't have to decorate around the tv....I love the all white and plants, looks clean and spacious
The reason those walls are slanted, and you have weird angles is because N.Y. landlords/management decided to chop up the apartments into halves to get more money out of everyone dying to move to Manhattan. So, you probably don't have a full loft but a piece of it. Back in the day, maybe 1990s, you could get a really large loft with much more space and more ceiling space with a metal ladder or stairs to get to your upper bedroom. But now they are chopping up apartments and selling a part of it for almost $4000-$5000. That's wayyyy too much. Even if I had it like that and could afford it, I would not pay it. There are more beautiful spaces, for cheaper in Manhattan, maybe with a patio or rooftop that you could have rented, but I still love how you decorated your space. It's really lovely.
Your place is so beautiful. Did you hire a designer to help you with the layout or is it a skill that you already have? Also, I would love to know where you got your green duvet cover? It is the perfect green that I've been looking for for ages!!!
Small can be cozy, like this one and practical, not like this one. I don't care how charming, light and airy this space is, it's over $3000 for 350 sq ft- ridiculous! That is not only too small at any price, but especially too expensive for the size. And I say this as someone who lived in Manhattan for 12 years.
Oooh hunneee...I am sooo bothered by the fact that the beautiful fireplace is hidden!!!Other than that, you've done an amazing job utilizing this fantastic space!😉...is there not ANY kind of way you could possibly showcase that fireplace!?! 🤔😊❤️
I love his furniture pieces and colour story. Fantastic vibe!! I do however much prefer the previous tenants layout. It seems much more functional, particularly because the fireplace was showcased and the room felt larger.
