I've never seen this heating system before and it's ingenious ! This man who built it and the room addition is truly a master craftsmanship . I was a carpenter myself and I know that he is very skilled with his tools and in building this structure. I learned a lot with watching this video and I'm grateful that he posted it . 정말 쉽지 않은 일을 하시는군요~ 못 하나 없이 한옥을 만드는 장인정신에 놀라울따름입니다.

저렇게 나무망치로 끼워 맞추는 걸 보고 일부 알지도 못하는 사람들이 ' 일본 전통 건축기술에서는 기둥을 깍아서 맞추면 정확하게 딱 들어맞는데 한국 방식은 기술이 모자라 억지로 끼워 맞춘다' 라고 폄하했던 적이 있었다더군요. 나무는 온,습도에 따라 수축, 팽창을 반복하는데 저렇게 딱 끼워넣지 않고 일본식으로 하면 나중에 간극이 벌어져서 말그대로 건물이 덜렁덜렁 거리는 수가 있다고 합니다. 이거 조상님들 대단한 지혜입니다.

참 고생하셨 습니다. 작업도 꽁꼼히 정확하게 정말 완벽히 잘 하셨습니다. 보는 내내 모든 공정과 마무리 작업은 지긍까지 본 여러가지 집짓기중 단연 최고의 솜씨입니다. 근데 그렇게 고생하셨는데 마지막 결과물이 시간에 비해 아쉽습니다. 그냥 제 개인적인 생각입니다

온돌,구들 독학으로 이론 공부중! 동네 어르신에게 직접 시공체험하며.... 함실에서 부넘기 형태 고래뚝,구들장을 일자 형태로 동시작업 즉석 시근담 그리고 구들장을 얹히는 형태 깊은 개자리!! 전통적인 복잡한 시공법에만 집착하다보니 어렵더라구요. 그러나 이 영상을 보면서 아! 저런 방법도 있었구나!.... 절로 무릎을 치게 되더라구요. 너무 쉽게 그러나 효율적인 시공법에 커다란 영감을 얻음! 영상 반복해서 보고있습니다 감사합니다 특히 압권은 기둥과보 연결법!! 보면서도 머리에 쥐가 놔,도무지 이해불가!! 그저 감탄만 연발!!.... 직접 배우고싶은 심정!!

A version of the old Roman underfloor heating, what is called hypocaust heating. Nice work on the timber framing. Regarding the difficulty of trying to fit in posts or rails into already installed posts and beams, usually in timber framing for English style barns and house framing as it was done historically in the U.S, they sections would be pre-assembled on the ground first, thus avoiding this trouble. These assemblies were called bents, and they were then tilted upright into position.

이 영상에서 가장 대단한 건 초반에 울퉁불퉁한 바위에 맞춰서 나무를 울퉁불퉁 깎어서 세우는 부분이다. 현대의 건축이라면 돌을 편평하게 깎아서 기둥도 일자로 세웠을 건데. 조선시대 정자들을 보면 대부분 울퉁불퉁한 바위를 그대로 두고 기둥을 그에 맞춰 깎아 세운 것이다.

Back in the 80's it was common to hear the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning from leaking old homes heated by that system but if you ever experienced Korean winters it can be brutal. A well maintained system can keep those floors nice and toasty.

Thank you for sharing this traditional build with us. You have me wondering if I can incorporate such a room in my cabin. The material you used on the walls, is that a clay sand mix or is there a bit of cement included?

43:00 when plastering with clay it is adviced to wet the wood. That way the adhesion is stronger. Please be mindful with the plastic floor covering, the heat draws out alot of chemicals. There a certified ones, but they are expensive and maybe hard to get locally. A old way of doing it is to cover the clay with woven mats or fabric, plaster them extrem thin with extra wet clay and after drying paint with multiple layers of linseed oil. IF YOU ADDED STRAW TO THE MUD FOR THE WALLS ON THE INSIDE,IT WOULD STAY IN PLACE MUCH BETTER AND IT WOULD NOT BREAK UP WHEN IT DRIED AS MUCH OR AS EASILY!

Wonderful heated Raised bed (platform) like the caravans that ran the silk road back in the very ancient times (in the states its called a rock stove with a mass heater). The craftmanship is EXCELLENT and the Joinery work is better than I have seen in a very long time (please pass on your knowledge to your children, grandchildren and anybody else that wishes to learn it). Thank you for letting me watch a MASTER CARPENTER AT WORK!

Oh, assembling the house is very elaborate, every detail of the yin and yang tenon when assembled is very tight, you can call this a wood processing industry, you have a very rich imagination. good luck

I was watching a "Timeline" films excavation of a Roman villa in rural England. It seemed there was a very similar way the Romans would heat the floor and the pool of their big bath houses this way as revealed in the excavations. The Roman method wasn't as elaborate, but a similar idea. The region of Korea is so remote from Europe, but I wonder if ideas traveled far 2,000 years ago and the Romans were influenced by those of Korean ancestry or vice versa. Does anyone know? Thanks for a very nice video, and such beautiful craftsmanship wow!! That place will serve for hundreds of years!! Korea must have a very interesting heritage!
