Omg!🤯This video was so helpful and stress reducing. I've killed enough plants and given up totally on trying again on them, even though I really really admire them. Like Coleus.💜 It survived for a year but became leggy and lifeless on the second year, then it died. Tht was a sad moment as Coleus reminds me of my childhood. My mom always had a big bush of Coleus. Calathea/ Maranta👿 just don't like me. Im happier with their also high maintenance and prettier cousin Stromanthe💛 My cat chewed on my spider plant and the stress killed it. I also killed another one by not being able to figure where to place it for light plus overwaterin also! I tried again and now I have new ones doing well🤞🏾 Then the most painful experience was losing my baby, my child of 13yrs!💚 Imagine ur teenager plant just one day drooping😪😔 and never getting up again!! I tried everything including contacting my county pro gardener🤷🏾♀️ who rudely told me to say goodbye and be grateful for the time I had with my gal Resilient coz "...they normally dont live tht long anyway!" Imagine that🤬! I rescued her from being a cigarette butt dispenser🚭 out in the snow...alone & cold⤵️♻️🔆✔✅💯🆗️📈⏳🌞💧🌳 to a pretty dark green flowering Peace Lilly. That was 2 yrs ago when I had Covid. My guess is I gave it Covid and it never recovered. I still cant bring myself to throw out whats left of its dry n crunchy mess. I miss my gal Resilient. 💔😩😭🌿🌱☘🌿🤧🤒🤢💔🗑❌⚱❎⚰❌🚮❌🤬 PS. I've never recovered either!🤬🤷🏾♀️🤔🙏🏿

Thank you for sharing a bit of your real life with us. It has been a stressful time for so many of us. I'm so excited for you about your very first home!!
I heard that you can overcome alocasia's "three leaf curse", where one leaf always dies off when a new one forms, by putting them in slightly bigger pots. Also, if you haven't checked it out, look into Lechuza Pon. It's a stoney-like mineral substrate that a lot of aeroids seem to love. My alocasias do great in them and I find it retains the right mix of air and moisture, so it's easier to not screw up their watering.
@@jackienagy3038 My cuprea and pink dragon are quite happy in pon. I converted a baby (almost rootless) rescue verrucosum a while back and it absolutely loves it. However, I just converted a big one and it’s hanging and looking quite sad, so fingers crossed it’ll bounce back from the shock soon. I’d def recommend trying younger plants or plants with thicker/robust roots like anthurium, even trying rooting in it first, so it’s not such a major transition. But the good thing about alocasias is that worst case they can always bounce back from their rhizome. I also have the feeling that the purple sword is a little more robust than some of the alocasias with softer petioles. Either way, when moving my cuprea to a bigger pot recently I could see just how much stronger the pon encouraged the roots to grow. While they’re a bit more fine than other aroid roots, they were all standing up very firmly instead of hanging when I took it out, which really impressed/surprised me.
Thank you for saying out loud what I think too. Some plants really stress me out and are more of a pain in the behind than joy. Coincidentally the plants I find stressful and which would eventually perish, are the same as the ones you mentioned.
Thank you for sharing about your concerns in your personal life and plant life. It makes you much more relatable. I also love the plant expertise you share with all of us. Thank you
Congratulations on buying your new house. It's nice to have your own place. I'm sure your dad will understand & be happy for you. Thanks again for your ever informative videos.
Totally am with you on the stress of pink princess! Mine always comes out with dark leaves even though I’ve tried bright indirect and even direct light. Nada! 😩 and Alocasia’s and mealybugs? Argh! So stressful!! Great video. And good luck with the house purchase! Is also very stressful but once you’re in your own place you’ll never look back 😉 totally worth it.
I'm soooo glad I found your channel!! Trust me, you'll get through the bumps in life...they are impermanent. Talk to your plants, they know the deep thruths!
Congratulations! It will feel so good to have a place of your own. If a plant stresses me out, I will do my best to care for it and move on to plants that do love me back :).
I grow a couple of fittonias, the exact same variety as shown in the video. They grow slowly but seem to do well in a room with air on a bit dryer side. I have never had them droop their leaves before watering. I water them maybe once a week, and never so that I see water dripping through the drainage holes. They grow in a standard store-bought potting soil that is rather dense and rich in nutrients. I hope you might find some of these tips useful and that everything works out for you the way you hope!
Greetings from Mexico. Sean: I also have three monstera adansonni plants, all green. Originally with large leaves, later they were born small. I had them inside, but no matter how much I fumigated them, I could never eliminate the cottony mealybug. I took them abroad, they are currently in recovery because they were left without leaves, by transplantation. On the other hand. The heart plant, in our country, and the central region, is drier, not very rainy. They are plants of medium shade, and of little irrigation. They grow rapidly, and are more than one meter long.
I'm from Manila, Philippines and we share the same climate. I own a couple of Fittonias who also stress me out -- some are doing well, some not so much. The green/white ones I had were once in separate pots, but decided to consolidate everything in a closed jar for a terrarium setup. they've grown very well in the high humidity. For my other potted Fittonias, I found that standard potting mix works fine, but I added sphagnum moss topping to lock in the moistness level. For my Fittonia that I've been failing on, I used the standard potting mix + sphagnum moss but leaves were still dropping. I tried mineral water and it seems to have stopped the leaves from dropping. So i'll probably maintain that setup til something bad happens. Good luck!
Gorgeous plants and pots. Thank you for the topic. Favorite plant tonight is Alocascia Zebrina. Good luck on your fittonia, I kill mine by under watering here in usa zone 6.
Fittonia grows very well in terrarium. Greetings from Singapore. I think our climate should be similar. So do try to keep it in terrarium, won't need any watering until you feel the leaves "soften".. all the best!
Fittonia Care: My climate is opposite of Indonesia, but I grow mine in a “microclimate” that I created for my Calathea. (Higher humidity, around 50-60%, with bright to medium indirect light.) Mine flourish by NOT giving them too much humidity (They’re kept several feet back from a humidity source and not too close to my other plants) and providing a higher level of light than one would intuit. (They’re actually less than a foot from a window.) Also... They will droop from receiving TOO MUCH humidity far easier than from being under/overwatered. The leaves look more crispy than droopy when underwatered. I actually forget to water mine frequently and it’s almost like they appreciate it. (But NOT to the point of dropping!) They’re in an airy, highly nutritious soil mix similar to what I use for Philodendron (ie: 20% Worm castings, 15% charcoal, 10% bark, 20% perlite, 35% peat moss). I know this may sound strange given how they’re touted as “terrarium plants” but this is what has worked very well for me. So... I would try increasing the light level, lowering the humidity a bit (if at all possible), and allowing the soil to dry almost completely between waterings but before the leaves start to droop.
Remember when I commented String of Hearts is not difficult? Well mine are still doing okay, but just giving me small leaves. 😂 Like, soooo tiny!!! Same with variegated and non variegated ones in different spots. 🤣🤣🤣 So I guess, okay, they are not easy anymore hahahaha. Congrats on your new home purchase. Best of luck!
@@onlyplants I do. 😢 That's why sometimes it's really hard to understand them hahaha. At least the variegated one's leaves are bigger though. And some all white leaves have been there for months and still looking good. So interesting!
I LOVE your videos and your genuine happiness in caring for your plants. You were right about the Zebrina, they like to be moist not wet and light indirect light, like 2 hours max a day. They are similar in care to syngoniums. I found them easy enough to care for but absolutely hated the spider mites. I also struggled with the Variegated String of Hearts, I killed them all. Over the past year I got rid of my anxiety inducing plants lol I couldn't take it anymore and just wanted to be happy with my collection! As always, beautiful video, beautiful collection and you are a beautiful being yourself!
Sometimes I thought I have a "black thumb", considering how many plants I've killed accidentally. But after watching this video, I feel that there is hope for someone like me! 😄
Sending you blessings on your new home purchase! Such a big step in one’s life! I hope it brings you lots of joy. And thank you on your tips for some of your plants especially Verrucosum !
Congrats on the new house and business ventures! Best wishes, I hope it all goes smoothly! And thanks for taking time to make these videos, even though you are so busy. Hope you can find some time to squeeze in a little rest and relaxation!
Sean, with the String of Hearts, I only water mine when the older/larger leaves get pliable/more softly bendy. But I do live in Melbourne, Australia and the humidity in my apartment tends to naturally be 50-60% all year round. I keep my String of Hearts on my South facing window so no direct light whatsoever. I'm not sure what the potting medium is since I've yet to change it out of it's original soil when my friend gave me her plant a year ago. I gave it a haircut last month as it was getting way too long but it's almost grown back to it's original length. I will repot when the butterfly cuttings I took of the hair cut matures. When I first received the SOH, it was very bald on top, that's been my only issue with the plant so far.
16:27 i agree with u. A lot of care tips dont work for us here. I watered my calatheas and fittonias everyday. I just give them a sip everyday. I dont even drenched them
Tats a big step of moving out of your parents house, congrats for the new 🏡 glad you still keep sharing your knowledge and experience with us despite your busy schedule and other duties 😉
Honestly, I’m from Singapore, and fittonia are really easy! They love really bright sunlight (indirect) and they really like to be watered thoroughly and don’t wait for them to dry out. And no tap water for these plants. Either distilled /boil, and once a while mineral water if you can swing it! Hope this helps! - ps: I agree about the Calatheas, such divas they are. I was so freaked out when my orbifolia was throwing a tantrum I started feeding it Evian+mineral water. Some how, it’s thriving now, so are my alocasias!
Congratulations on your house! Good luck! I couldn’t stop giggling when you said in one of your older posts that your dad doesn’t like your plants because he collects expensive plants lol 😂 he will miss your plants when you move out! 😂
I'm always stressing about my hoyas. Fortunately linearis is pretty cheap in my country (and in Europe in general) but it drops new growth so easily. You really do have to be super careful about watering. But yeah, my hoyas are my treasures and new growth is so delicate and might just drop if you breath their way, so they're always stressing me out.
hi, I live in the Philippines, and I believe that we have almost the same climate. I have 2 fittonias. what i noticed is i have to mist them regularly, 2x a day would be more ideal. I also only water them when they start to droop or the top one inch soil is dry. The soilmix that I used was more on cocopeat, with some perlite and vermicast.
So glad to see that you have issues too sometimes, it makes me feel so much better when i fail on some plants, good luck with your house purchase, its nice to be independent some times.
Thank you for this honest and interesting video! Fittonia's are indeed very strange, I have one growing like crazy in my snake tank, but outside of it it just crisps up and dies... Eventhough the humidity is the same xD Best of luck with telling your parents that you got a house :P Hopefully it helps I watch your vids again in the background with ads on in incognito mode x
hot and humid climate here, my fittonia is doing ok in my succulent mix+vermuculite+perlite. i mist it when its hot tho. I'm experimenting with self watering and its doing ok so far. one of my propogation died from drying out after I forgot to water it after 3 days cos I was sick and didn't have the energy. Its really a drama queen plant.
You are 37?! You are actually a year older than me?! I would swear you are 25 the most and every time I mentioned you to my husband I used expressions like "cute plant boy". Omg. Now I feel bad. Anyway, you look great, congrats.
Sean feeling so happy for you...n ur new house...2 yrs is a long time..but yeah can wait...wishing that ur business flourishes n u open a branch in india 🇮🇳
Omg, I thought I'm sucked at calathea, the burnt leaf and such. But turned out someone as competent as you have some difficulty with calathea too 😅 Btw, congrats on your new house. Hope everything go smooth for you 🙏
Congrats Sean 🏡..& hope can watch a video from you nextime about 'Plants you really want to buy but scared to own it'😋..anyway, loved all your informative vids , stay safe🍃🌹
Congrats on the purchase of your new home, it’s very exciting but know that it can be very stressful. What are you going to do with all your plants if moving to such a small space? Wishing you the best of luck 🤞.
Congrats on your new house, I recently found your channel and I adore your videos. You've talked a lot about bacteria and fungus issues on your plants, and these are also issues I've encountered more as I've acquired more plants. Perhaps you could consider making a video about identifying and treating these issues? :)
string of hearts i absolutely hate to deal with. they should call it ''untangle the hearts'' instead. its impossible to sort those vines because they allways twist into each other and....uhgh. every time i have one it feels like you re cooking a pot of spaghetti and then trying to sort them afterwards
I think with any string of turtles, hearts, pearls and spades have really short roots so I planted a string of turtles in a shallow saucer and it seems to be doing well.
Congratulations for new home... yesterday i was so stressed seeing how many plants i have killed in past... now i am feeling better...🙈😊 I dont put fittonia in terracotta pots as it dry out faster... keeping them together and near your 👀 otherwise one day ok next day die...with ceramic or plastic pots 5 out of 8 surviving 😂
Hi there!! I have a young Alocasia Frydek 5” high when is a safe time to put insecticide to prevent possible spider mites. And congratulations on moving forward on buying a home. Something to look forward to 🪴.
Wow, Shaun I’m so impressed with how fast you’ve gained subs!! Your videos and collection are amazing! Congratulations on your new home!! Wow and your businesses! OMFG I want a verocosum soooo bad. It’s my top wishlist plant! Holy shit variegated adansonii!! Amazing collection. You’ve taught me a lot and I’m grateful! I will watch all your ads!! I wish you many years of health and happiness 💚🪴🍃🌿🌱🌵
my hoya linearis also gives me mealy bugs! every few days have to try to wash them off even tried hydrogen peroxide.. the string of hearts was quite easy for me to prop in perlite though.. roots came out within a week!
I honestly don't know how you have enough time in a day to do everything you do! You do know there are only 24 hours in a day right??😄 you put out SO much great content AND have multiple businesses AND have this MASSIVE garden to maintain! Waaaah?! ❤
