If you want to increase reading proficiency, then stop pushing standards. Focus on reading and reading only. Someone who can read, will learn. Be tough and do what needs to be done. I was in a failing high school. The principal came in and made every teacher focus on reading discipline. The next year. All areas improved. But that meant putting aside standards and focusing on reading. That principal and superintendent were not popular. Good luck! Just don’t lead like your sister did. I had to sit through hearing for the two districts that fired her and the court hearing that found her guilty. Mike you can do this!!!
Sheila, the Lord knows I'm telling the truth when I say this. Swear to God, I thought the majority of American women had it going on like my mother and her sister's, and her neice. All were 100% financially independent. They got married for love. A few may have ended up divorced, but they didn't marry their husband for financial reasons! They had their own everything when they met their partners. And their husband's were extremely proud of their wives. My father and my mothers brothers in law were proud to be able to say that their wife worked for this company or that company. "My wife is the so and so of so and so." "She makes more I do." Their husband's made big money too. And not one female on either side of the family had to ask their husband for permission to SPEND HER OWN MONEY! OMG SHEILA! I worked with a meek little, newly wed white woman named Michelle. She met Mike were we worked. On top of the great paying job she had, she received a great deal of child support from her ex husband. We were sitting in the ladies restroom combination lounge at work on break one day. There were Pampered Chef, Home Enterior, Tupper Ware, Avon, and Mary Kay brochures on the lounge table. Michelle was looking through the Home Enterior brochure, then said the craziest thing any of us sisters, (she was the only white woman in the lounge at that particular moment), have ever heard, Michelle said, with her 1980's Police Academy high pitch voice "Gee, I really like this set on page 7, have y'all seen that? I'm going to ask Mike if its okay for me to get it." Sheila girl! OMG! NO SHE DIDN'T SAY THAT! I'm sorry, but we didn't mean to team up on her like we seemed to, but we all told her that she didn't have to ask anybody, including her husband, permission to spend her own money. She was the stereotypical dumb blonde. Pretty lady. She made 6 figures a year, including the child support. And she had to ask permission to spend her own money! She quit a week later. We know Mike made her quit to get her away from our influence. Mike was from Eastern Kentucky, were the men of the house run the house, and their wives are meek and as quiet as church mice. Country boys marry women then talk them into buying expensive four door Dodge and Chevy Trucks and Harley Davisons motorcycle. They talk them into buying boats and expensive hunting and fishing equipment. And Mike had a daughter, so he talked Michelle into spending more money on her than she did her young sons. That appeared to have been the case anyway. 18 months later we saw Michelle and Mike at Kings Island on company day. We didn't recognize her! She looked a damn mess! She used to fix herself up! WTH happened? And she knew she was looking a mess because she tried to hide from everybody! She had gained a great deal of weight. Her face was all broke out. The well made clothes she once wore to work were replaced with things from discount store sales racks. I wanted to cry. She kept her head down, and refused to look anybody in the eye when we talked to her. WTH!!! How the hell did this happen? Her husband Mike looked like a GQ model. Like Halle Berry's runway model ex husband. Yeah, hotter than a tin roof in July! And he knew it! Everytime a new girl got hired they would see Mike and ask "Who is that? What's his name? Is he single? And he knew what he had in Michelle. A gullible fool. Mike got finer with time, like an expensive wine, while Michelle looked like somebody's grandmother. They divorced after her child support dried up when her youngest boy aged out. She wasn't that stupid. She went back to college and got her Masters in Education, and she's presently working as an elementary school teacher. I got to talking about Michelle and lost my train of thought!😂
He also says students are not allowed to read silently & independently in ELA classrooms anymore because it's not rigorous enough and aligned with his HQI. We English teachers were told this is a directive coming from the top and if we have an issue with these directives, there will be administrative consequences.
🤥 ~ I’m pretty sure he’s a liar. He says teachers won’t have to grade homework at home, less duty time during the day outside of their own classroom, higher pay, and don’t have to write their own lessons. Yet I saw a recent news program that one teacher showed up for their job they are being told their salary was cut over $15,000. And now it’s too late because they already left their previous job. So if they’re willing to cut their salary, you really think all these other promises are going to be lived up to.
I don’t know if he’s good or not. But just because someone talks like they’re authentic doesn’t mean they are. Think about used car salesman who are slick.
