I used to live in the Montrose area, within walking distance to the Menil collection, it's not walkable at all. Only the Menil collection and 2 bars were within half of an hour walk, the buses were very infrequent, and it was too far from the light rail that usually runs more frequent than buses. I rode my bike to work for about a year until I was hit by a car, biking is more suitable for the scale of the area but super dangerous. No neighborhood in Houston is truly walkable, you can drive to a place and find a parking, then walk from one building to the next, that's considered walkable. Most of the places in Houston you can't even do that, you have to drive to the parking lot that belongs to the building, crossing streets is suicidal.

Great informative video. Glad I found it. Can you do an individual video on each of these? Highlighting grocery stores, movie theaters, dance studios, parks?

Houston Heights district is also where you'll find first street & so on. Geographically the highest part of the city. Legend goes that in the early years of the city builders dumped the soil in this area raising the ground level. Victorian style restored homes and craftsmen style are typical of the history of the distric. Historically the Heights until last year was the only dry part of Houston. No alcohol or beer sales could be purchased in the area for over 100 years. W.19th St Antique market is must on a beautiful day. Great shops along the street. New construction going up everywhere of luxury apartments. Heights also has one of the most beautiful public library's on Heights Boulevard. The Farmers Market on Airline is a great place to people watch & find rare spices, cultural wares, and restaurants.

I'm glad not every last inch of Houston is a car-dependent parking lot wasteland 😂. Still, even the best of these "somewhat alkable neighborhoods pale compared to what's available in New York City, Chicago, Boston, and some other cities. People can move to one of these and also avoid the horrible hot, humid weather and storms.

walking is for the ancient of days. Whats next? Bike lanes? Cool...just make the bikers register the tri-cycles inspection...and pay added taxes for the bike lanes that no person ever uses....only the dirt pathetic
