Some men are already dead to the wiles of the enemy and I can tell you Pst. Theophilus is one of such so the issue of haughtiness or pride is very far. . When Paul said ' I speak in tongues more than all of you ' and when it was recorded in acts 14 that the whole city came the next sabbath to hear Paul, did it remove from the glory that is due to the Lord Jesus? I discovered from the Acts of the Apostles, a combination of self controll and certain weirdness in the Church then. How can we explain, when Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost,, the 120 disciples were behaving like drunken men speaking in different languages that many who could not understand them will termed them weird and blabbing at such an odd hour of the morning while others were still sleeping. Why did the Holy Spirit choose such a weird way to announce His presence in the new dispensation of grace? YOU CAN'T BOTTLE GOD...HE IS SOVEREIGN. Imagine Peter preaching at the house of Cornelius, and the Holy Spirit interrupted his message( may be in the middle of his sermon), by busting out in overflowing tongues of fire like at the beginning of the Apostles era. That's lacking in self control by these new converts who had not even prayed the sinners prayers( in our time, some me may even stop them as they have not followed the routine or laid down pattern of how prospective converts should be saved, sanctified and be filled with the Holy Spirit. I discovered, the Holy Spirit is not controlled by our dogmas or pet doctrines). The men should have controlled the outburst of power and tongues( YOU CANNOT CONTROL HOLY SPIRIT, HE IS SOVEREIGN...HE CAN ONLY FILL THOSE WILLING FOR HIM TO CONTROL THEM). Some interpret this scripture wrongly: And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. I Cor 14:32. Note the word, spirit is in the plural, and entirely different from the Holy Spirit which is always in the singular terms not plural. But there is this marvelous manifesting of the Holy Spirit, that despite the commotion, there is an order and decency in it( Let everything be done decently and in order 1Cor. 14:40...for God is not the author of confusion 1 Cor. 14:33). Hence, the need for us to restrain ourselves from exacting control over the Holy Spirit manifesting as He is not subject to any dogmatic, leadership rules or church control for He is sovereign over these manifestations. I worship in a church where there is real self control even when the Holy Spirit wants to manifest like in Acts chapter 2 and leaders would stifle it by restraining believers by church traditions and His presence and manifestations will stop because "the Spirit of God will not strive with us for He is gentle and does not force us but as many that are willing to allow Him, He will demonstrates His presence in the unique way He chooses ACCORDING TO THE SCRIPTURAL EXAMPLES WE HAVE KNOWN. @@okech321 You need to read Acts 2 again. The book did not say they were behaving weirdly or drunk but that they spoke in known languages that people could understand. They weren't "spirit" drunk and babbling or speaking meaningless words as you claim. Your claims are just not in that text. Please read Acts 2 again. It was the people who did not understand the phenomenon even though they heard them speaking coherently and intelligently that MOCKED them by saying that they were drunk. Again, I really do not get your analogy on Peters preaching but it surely seems you assume that whenever the bible says the holy spirit is poured out people begin to act weird! No!! THEY WERE DECLARING THE WONDERFUL WORKS OF GOD... i.e. God was showing the meaning of the gospel which is that salvation is not for Jews alone but also for gentiles. This fulfills Joel's prophesy. This scripture summaries Acts 2... Acts 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Now consider when God fills you completely with His presence with attendant power. You are bound to stagger due to the weight of glory that comes with His presence. I am writing from experiences. Imagine when 120 suddenly felt this weight without being pre-informed of the impact of another personality coming into them. My concern about the present day experiences of many is that they speak in tongues without initial experience of being truly filled with the Holy Spirit but a product of learned gibberish utterances without spiritual content or power. Sometimes when we hear believers speaking in tongues, by the grace of God, we have inward witness whether it is genuine or not...when it's genuine, it will spur(the Holy Spirit inside others around will move others into higher dimensions by way of edification and many atimes into speaking in tongues)others within. Did you hear them speak English in Heaven?? What kind of songs do you hear them sing in Heaven?
