I must say, I've started a new piece, a large canvas, and I couldn't figure out the method for creating exactly this effect. This, and one other video, are the only tutorials I've found on this specific arrangement. (The other being digitally rendered and not if much use to my needs.) I'm very grateful and appreciative that you posted this. I found it exactly when I needed it most.
+Dearing Wang (Dearing Draws) I love the video I have been wanting to learn how to draw sacred geometric shapes. The only problem I have with the video is that it is hard to see some of the picture. I understand lighting reflection is a hard thing to avoid, but if you have a table lamp that can move turning the lamp out from your drawing just slightly will reduce the glare on the page if it is opposite the camera. I have had this trouble before and experimented with lighting in videos. It definitely makes a difference and will make your videos more dynamic and easier to see. Great video btw.
It's doable. I'll just use the pause button a lot! I think the idea is to go every third junction, right? The corners of the squares are every third, so 1 joins 1, then 2 joins 2, 3 joins 3. I *think* the smaller squares (the rings) also get lines every third junction. I found this video at work, where I don't have a compass nor large paper, so when I get home I plan on really following it carefully, with the proper instruments. It's gonna be good!
Thank you for connecting on Google+, Dearing! My body is disabled (I loathe saying "I'm" disabled), so I don't draw much anymore, but I was JUST telling my mom that you've inspired me to start a new sacred geometry piece. Thanks for that! :) Could you please tell me, what is the best paper to use for mixed medium water color and colored pencil? Archers is not an option at this point. What pad are you using? Thank you! I love watching you create these beautiful pieces. Peace to you! :)
BHAKTI BROPHY Hi Bhakti..awesome to hear that you want to draw again. I simple rule of thumb is that the paper has to have thickness to it and I like when it has a bit of a rough texture to it. I don't know what you mean by pad btw. I have some links to products I use myself like the colorpencils and compass. Thank you and peace to you.
evilpompom Thank you for the nice words. It looks complicated. But once you try it out and follow the steps you'll find out it is quite easy actually. Even for beginners. Good luck and have fun with it if you decide to try!
urgulp You can check out Eric Broug. Alot of people use his books as starters. I personally started with learning how to divide a circle in to several equal parts. You can see some of those simple videos for beginners playlist. And went to librarys and just researched online. But mainly I figured out by drawing and practising. I want to do a video on this topic in the near future.
Dearing Wang Thanks so much for the information. I have been looking in to that author and considering buying one of his books. I also plan on watching all your videos and look forward seeing what is yet to come. Thanks again!
Hey, first time watching one of your videos and I love your work, keep it up man. But plz, can you possibly have a different camera angle so we can see the lines better and Aldo maybe slow some of it down. It may be easy to you who's done it so many times but my first time I have to stop n pause then hit play again. Besides those 2 small details that can be changed I will continue to watch your videos
PS How did you figure all of these out? I have several fabulous sacred geometry books (about ten years old), but they don't go into this much detail. Can you recommend any books? Serious question: You have a knack for figuring these pieces out yourself, right? Maybe an engineer's background? :)
BHAKTI BROPHY Hi Bhakti. You're right. I have a degree in Architecture. And has been a life's passion for the last 15 years trying to figure out the basics of sacred geometry. I wish I could recommend a specific book but I gathered scattered info from many different resourses. But alot I have found out but using my creativity. And using a analytical mind set. Many people recommend Eric Broug on Islamic Geometry. You should look into that.
Thank you! I have the WOODEN BOOKS collection, and several other books. But I see your point (no pun intended! :) We start with the basic Golden Ratio or Flower of Life, for example, and let the drawing reveal itself. I'm so inspired by your work. Thank you again for sharing your technique...and in such a kind and friendly manor. :)
+BHAKTI BROPHY ....I found the more patterns I studied and drew..the easier it was to start seeing how they are constructed...tons of stuff online....eric brougs books are very good...takes lots of time and patience..and good tools
Destroymaster100 Thanx man. I am that I can help. I just used a led pencil. Just like this one: - Faber Castell TK Fine Vario Pencil 0.5 MM - amzn.to/1CoBfOt
Simplified, circle, divide to 12 & line, draw 3 large squares, scribe the next 12 lines to divide to 24, make 12 outer squares, to make the 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th smaller squares, line the ruler from the 1st & 5th previous sized squares outer point, Mark twice each time, finish lower half square and repeat till finish :-)
love your videos. could you draw more of the mandalas/ geometries from the iranian mosques and buildings. they are amazing. could use your help. thanks. :D
Hi Francis, I learned this subject through a many different channels. Like going to the library and went to the art section and looked for books on this subject. Googling for ideas. There is one book that helped me on the basics but this is in Dutch. I give you a link anyways. Just in case you understand the diagrams. www.bol.com/nl/c/boeken/greetje-molenaar/39013/index.html I am thinking of writing a book myself. But thats more in for the future. Good luck!
liked it, only constructive criticism is maybe slow it down for just one part of the inner squares to help root it in the mind of the viewer what you are doing, also the glare off the paper is occasionally so bright it's hard to see what is going on. still, great video. namaste.
Thank you for sharing your effort. You were right. It was overly bright at times. I'll make sure to pay attention to that in the future. And you mentioning the slowing down of the inner rings...You're right. After looking at it..it would have given viewers a pause indeed. I was abit too much focused on keeping a certain pace to retain attention of the viewer. Making videos is an art on itself that I am learning as well while sharing these videos. But I am committed to make each video better then the last one. As for the colorpencils. I have video How To Draw - OctoCircles Mandala Pattern - Sacred Geometry Video Tutorial which has a description in it with all the materials I used including the colorpencils. I will put it in this description as well. Good luck!
A WEE PROBLEM - I was ok until around the 3minute 25 sec point - anychance you can do a slower version please + better lighting ???? Thanks for these vids am enjoying them :-)
didnt work out for me, but amazing! i tried hard but it so complicated next time if you can please talk bec i learn with my ears mostly but it is very elegant and cute i wish i could draw like this.
ANGELO GARCIA Hi Angelo. Sure why not. I've seen examples where people draw with pencil and compass on canvas. I was planning to do one on canvas myself in the future. Good luck!
Good and smart attempt. It should have been slower to follow the steps. Third Ring onwards it is very quick in pace. From that step onwards squares are becoming smaller and is difficult to follow in one stretch.
Babu Moosad Thanx for feedback Babu Moosad. I am aware of that not everything was edited correctly. It was 1 of my first videos ever. Nonetheless, I hope you will try drawing this pattern if you like this. You will notice that the logic of the geometry of the first 2 rings are just repeated when they get smaller from 3rd till 5th ring. But the technique of placing the lines and squares stays exactly the same. Only the size changes. Thats why I accelerated after the 2nd ring bc I thought repeating the same principle would get boring. I've learned that all good things come in 3's. So next time I will repeat the same principle at least 3 times or more. Many people have sent me messages with the succesfull replications. It is possible. Anyways, doing is knowing. So go for it. Good luck!
It is only a suggestion for the benefit of others. Still it is a unique drawing seen on this topic . I have successfully attempted to draw this yesterday itself which is only prompted by your drawings. All the best for such future attempts.
Hi Molly. I edited this video abit too fast. I realized afterwards. But I think if you pauze after each scene you can absolutely draw this pattern. Just follow me and copy every movement I do. As for measurments. You don't need absolute measurments. It is all relative. So you can draw this as small or big sized as you want. Thats why I don't have measurements. Maybe I'll will explain more in future video's. But I did it without voice because not everybody in the world speaks English. Good luck Molly. You can do it. You just have to focus.
Bro i love this piece, but you really fall off with teaching this one at about 1:40. I can pause it all day but the lighting and your hands in the way its very hard to see what steps are next. I love your videos of sacred G and have done many but this one is to hard for me to keep with you
Would be nice if this tutorial actually took the time and showed a little more detailed teaching , instead I got to second set of squares and just became frustrated with the garbage. Great geometry horrible tutorial.
