Tom Rosenbauer interviewed a guy who did his PhD thesis on fly casting accuracy. The one thing that made all the difference was keeping both eyes on the target, keeping your head still, and looking right at the target as you cast. Some very, very good casters in his study couldn’t hit targets very well. Many looked at their back casts. I wish I had that name, but in any case, Tom has it exactly right. You have to keep your eyes on the target. It gets more complicated when the guide up on the platform can see the fish and you can’t. In that case, it’s all about communication. But you STILL need to keep your eyes on some target and keep your head still, and you cannot do that if you’re looking at your back cast.
