Thats what happens when you take a show aimed at teens and dumb it down to be for kids, and even the original anime was quite censored and edited from manga to anime.
I have a myriad of shonen jump from around '09 and I remember stumbling across the original yu gi oh. One particular story I remember was evil yugi fighting a group of thugs who used yo yos as weapons. I believe he made them fall through a rusted tin roof, heavily implying the fall killed them. You can imagine me as an 11 y/o being very confused, I was expecting light hearted kids playing a card game but I got evil yugi fucking up some ruffian delinquents.
@@lucamckenn5932 The card game appears at episode 4 and get importance in episode 26 , but in other countries than Japan the episode 26 is called episode 1 and ... Don't worry Yami is not evil , except if you're evil 😂 .
Yup it's for teens like flame of recca, ghost fighter, hunterxhunter, but some producers thinks all anime is for kids so they tone it down, but not much in my place you could watch fushigi yugi tamahome and nacago kissed him which is in some countries will be censored for being both male, and the list goes on and on so as a chiled I knew producers got some of their work wrong lol
@@DJMMLJ this is censorship. 4Kids basically ruined the YuGiOh series in the US and made it appeal more towards kids. now, this certainly helped sell the card game, but from an anime perspective, many episodes were cut, altered, had a lot of violence removed, and it was to the point that entire episodes followed completely different plots. If you ask someone if they want to play yugioh or watch yugioh, what reaction do you think they'll give you? "oh, that children's card game? Just play MTG." It's an anime with a tie-in game the likes of Naruto or Bleach, it has serious tones and was centered towards japanese high school teens/young adults, but because some exec working for fox was handed the license, they just massacred the source material and stitched it back together into one frankenstein's monster of a dub centered for kids. that's like me taking the Avengers and changing it so instead of Thanos killing half of humanity, their souls were trapped in the "shadow realm" and the only way to win was by convincing Thanos to turn good and let them go instead of fighting.
I got no idea it’s not like they were referencing any particular body parts. I mean I can understand removing spikes and adding clothing even Changing names (though killer bee should’ve just stayed as it was since it’s CLEARLY a bee) but not complimenting appearance? It’s been seen in cartoons before bugs bunny whenever a beautiful female character walks by they have the jazzy saxophone music sometimes a pan up and the guys howling like dogs.
because harpies are not beautiful. they stink and have bird like figurines. But they will use illusion to seduce men and make them coppulate with them, before killing. greek mythos. In this case, saying a damm harpie is beautiful, IS referencing that dark part
when i was that young watching Yu-Gi-Oh, i wasnt worried about the girls and the "suggestive material". i was more occupied with watching a children's card game.

What damage? my and most likely a vast majority of a western audience was introduced anime this way and I bet One Piece nor YGO would even be half as popular as it is now, let alone the fact kids still play YGO today. The only way I can see this hurting anything is someone's ego of how they "treated" your younger self like they were stupid.

Well, in the German Version, "Summoned Skull" is translated to "Herbeigerufener Totenkopf", a direct translation, in the Game. But in the Anime it's called "Beauftragter der Dämonen" which means something like "subordinate of the demons". ^^
Noah was ten in the Japanese version and twelve in the English version. He never aged because he's just a virtual version. As someone pointed out, Rebecca (girl with teddy bear) plays. She's like eight. They show some cameos of children playing the game with the duel disks. So, yeah. Kids play the game and they're (barely) featured in the show.

There’s an uncut dub which was edited by funimation there’s 12 episodes but only 9 were released the reason the stopped producing those was cause 4Kids said that they would beat the official dvds
It's all pretty minor stuff that a casual viewer like myself wouldn't even catch without this type of video and I'm definitely not loosing sleep over it.
I know this video is a few months old, but 4Kids also changed how Haga (I'm not calling him Weevil, ugh) knew about the field power bonus; In the original, Pegasus told him directly. In the dub, Haga says he *stole* the information, which is weird since it seems that Haga admires Pegasus, as seen in episode 2 when he was handed the cup and was clearly seen blushing. So why would he steal something from someone he admires??
Now I’m not gonna lie this kind of upset me. This is how they make anime, this is their style. If they can’t handle it they shouldn’t be watching it. They shouldn’t be censoring the show to their liking like this.
How does it feel knowing that the Dragon Quest anime, which had female characters with *shorter* skirts, was broadcasted in Muslim countries without censoring them?

@@Nick-zn1vj Obviously not if it's dubbed, again I don't see the whole cry about censorship. I enjoyed the show as a kid and when I rewatched it when I was older I wasn't bothered by trivial things like Mai's shorts length. I could care less the actual show stays the same.
Also weird is how they changed Sapphire Dragon, Emerald Dragon, and Diamond Dragon into Luster Dragon, Luster Dragon #2, Hyozanryu. Every unfused Elemental Hero is supposed to have Man or Lady in their name. Instead of Elemental Heroes Featherman and Burstlady we got Elemental Heros Avian and Burstinatrix. Destiny Heroes should all have Guy in their name so instead of Doomlord we should have Devilguy. The biggest name change offender of them all for me personally is that Black Luster Soldier should be CHAOS SOLDIER. THEY SPENT ENTIRE SEASONS CENSORING THE WORD BLACK AND JUST THROW IT RIGHT IN.
Can I just say that yugioh is an anime not a kids cartoon. There’s a lot of scene in yugioh dubbed series that are still pretty dark even with its censorship. Like mariks cruel violent torture game and taking life after loss of duel. So censoring it wouldn’t really do much
Looking forward to more episodes. Just an idea if you want to implement it. I see you're doing 3 episodes each so far. Could you try including a 4th if you run into an issue of breaking a 2 part episode in half. If not, no worries. Just a thought.

A lot of the sometimes arbitrary changes to the dialog changes the context of some of the duels and makes them confusing to keep up with. And the logic of the anime was already confusing enough without these changes
4Kids introduced me to so many treasured Anime’s on saturday mornings. I wouldn’t even have known it was censored back then, i’m grateful for them!! ion really get the hate y’all b giving 4kids smh
Some info about German translation. In German they did translate his name more to the original because he is called Beauftragten der Dämonen which is in English from Google Translate Representatives of the demons but his attack name whas the English translation.
Tbh This might not be related to this specific video but honestly Dark Magician(4kids dub name) is a way better name than Black Magician(official name/japanese)
I think I'm the only one who doesn't mind some of the changes. One such change is the "cyber bondage" to "cyber shield" as well as the nipple spikes being removed. That's all.
over-sexualized portrayal of women is usually unnecessary and can also be dangerous.I think the censorship is good in many of the scenes shown above. Blood and violence, ok in a moderate way, when it gets too gory. Censoring religious aspects is ridiculous. IMO
I don't see any problems with this. As long as the story plot is the same idc. A lot of people in the comments cares way to much and it's like "Okay?", lol.
1:07 It's like here in the US, you can say "ASS" and "HOLE", but not "ASSHOLE".....though 2 people can say "Ass" and "Hole", one after another. Same with "Goddamn" or "Goddammit". Censorship, something censorship can't even organize.
ngl as a kid I did not really care about seeing things that adults would think about were sexual for. I was a kid and the blue eyes white dragon were way cooler than a set of tits at the time. Of course after when my friends and I would get bord we would talk about it, but in a joking matter.
