In 2018 a group of young people went on a boat cruise to have fun in celebration of the new year, however, what should have been a plast, turned out to be a splash
This was in my country, that day me and my aunt were going to join these people on the boat😢😭😭😭unfortunately we didn't go my aunt later got busy with work that day and i was at home waiting for her so thst we can go, Afriend called brian may his soul rip was busy callong my phone that day asking me where iam, that if i go late i might miss 😭😭few minutes later news started circulating everywhere how the boat cruise has lost control and all people are dead, i tried to call on brians phone but was unreachable 😭😭brian was dead already 😭😭😭, rip brian in brown shorts and white shirt we miss you🥺🥺..
I agree it doesn't look safe but I have to say some of the boats from these towns have been used for years assource of income and I believe the owners were only interested in money

This reminds me of how we warn others about hell yet they ignore the warning signs, the red flags and party their way to doom. There is a scripture that says, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:." 1 Peter 5:8 Thus the importance of sobriety and paying attention. My condolences to all who lost their loved ones in this tragedy.

You mentioned "holes", "engine troubles", and "overloading". This makes me think of a lethal combination. bilge pumps, buoyancy, power. A boat can stay a float with working bilge pumps, even if there are holes or leaks in the boat. As long as the buoyancy is correct and the boat is not overloaded. So often people with money are so used to getting whatever they want they often dodge the harsh realities of life. Safety is seen as an inconvenience.
I'm Kenyan and me and a few friends went on a dhow in Mombasa's Indian ocean, we started drinking on the cruise and i remembered this story and immediately stopped. I remember thinking i would rather be sober if we are going into the ocean, i do know how to swim but still cant take the chance. Even in swimming pools you are advised to be sober, even if you know how to swim. They would have had a chance if they had on their life jackets. Better be prepared, this story is so sad. It's the ppl fault & the boat fault, it should've been tested before onboarding ppl & the ppl should've kept their life jackets on,,, don't ever play around with your life when you're on a boat in the middle of a big ocean full of water
There is always 3 red flags before a tragedy happens, the 4th one is when the bad thing happens. I have learnt this the hard way and I will never take it for granted again in my life "don't ignore red flags when on a trip".
As augandan i live next to this lake Vic and alot of people have died on it and some times it's used for rituals but on that fateful day I was at home and when you hear the story from those who left the boat earlier before this happened there were warned so many red flags but because people were drunk it was so hard to save them.
Now is a time to be of a sober mind. Not sure why anyone would get on a boat if they can’t swim without a life jacket especially while they’re drinking. 😢❤

@@werkssolution3785 Exactly! but since they were both on the boat they must have still thought it was safe or else they would have not jeopardized their own life so I don't think they meant any harm. OR maybe just not experienced boat owners.
Now let me tell you some of the facts here, there were not enough life jacks, the boat was faulty, most people couldn't swim and those that could were drowned by those that couldn't even the boat owner(organiser) died on that boat trying to save his wife but was swamped by people who couldn't swim, the boat was not built for such a function, fishermen warned them in advance that the boat was going to capsize and a few wise ones went with them. All in all, people with lots of responsibilities made silly decisions that day and they paid with their lives, families were left parentless, cars at the beach like the owners were soon to return and claim them, it was a catastrophe. As we Cameroonians say…”njoh di posh” …they had so many signs and I’ve been tipsy but I’d still have my wits about me even then and as someone who has traveled so many times by boat …your life jacket or an inflated tube which you can float with is no joke plus I can’t swim so I use both …they had so many opportunities but for free drinks, pictures etc they didn’t take any warning serious ….I pray for all the kids left without parents, parents left without their kids, families left without their children, spouses left without their partners and friends who have been separated may the Almighty God continue to give them peace and strength to move on and for the deceased may they continue to Rest In Peace 🙏🏾

The boat didn't look top tier to carry even 50 people. And a party on the pictures of the boat am seeing was a recepie for disaster. Music system, ppl dancing & the weight of a 100 ppl and above. Very tragic indeed for everyone who lost their loved ones. MTSRIP 🙏
Yes, it looked like junk and was too small for all of those people. It is clear that the boat owners were not experienced enough to know exactly what they were getting themselves into.
I was in Uganda in this same year and I heard about that incident. I got so scared of visiting the resorts on the banks of Lake Victoria. It was really a sad moment in the country.
This is extremely sad news. Lake Victoria is very deep...I can imagine the trauma they felt when they hit the water without life jackets. So sorry for this. Amy their souls rest in peace

Safety protocols ignored or insufficient prechecks. It was preventable. Tragic that lives were lost but we all must learn a lesson to prevent this happening again. Saving money/time doesn't protect lives. Listening/adherence to safety advice can save lives. RIP to all. I've seen this happen too many times it's heartbreaking.

Recently went on a vacation around lake Malawi, a similar incident almost happened to me, like the engine failed near the shore and the owners were able to swim to the shore and pull the boat to the shore.

If the boat only holds 90 people and there was over 100, he/she should have stopped any extra party goers. Now watching the boat arrive, it looked like it was sinking already. Definitely didn't look safe. Everybody would have been better off partying on shore. That looked like fun. I've been on a boat and the first thing I put on is a life jacket. I don't care if it looks ugly with the outfit I'm wearing. My life is more important, than the way my outfit looks. I hope the younger people and anybody at that, will wear a life jacket anytime you get on a boat. God bless everyone 🙏
After listening to a woman called Erika Mukisa Kimani from Uganda who was initiated by her paternal grand mother into sorcery and how she used to go under Lake Victoria for powers, I think this was pure rituals. I remember this story like it happened yesterday. I’m just thinking loud!
Im a ugandan and ever since that tragedy happened, i fear water. The fact that our home is just near lake Victoria. It was a very sad day a lot of people died😔😔 it was so horrible!
People die in water because of panic. Especially when they don't know how to swim, atleast a little knowledge about swimming should be given to these people before boarding and life jackets should be a must have on.

The Captain of the boat should of cancelled the trip. A river boat in London lost the lives of many a few years ago, and there was also red flags. Every disappointment is for a wise purpose. People should view situations like these and return safely home. It is a known fact that every end of year, and beginning of the year tragic disasters always happen. The boat did not even look seaworthy.....or at least did not look safe enough to be launched on any body of water, definitely not on a large body of water like Lake Victoria. And some people wearing life jackets were not wearing them correctly. The water would have just snatched the jackets away from them. Very tragic!!
I have entered boat twice and both times I wore my life jacket throughout because I cannot swim and my biggest fear is drowning. After seeing this I will never enter boat again until I can swim n even that doesn’t help with tricky waters. These people lost their lives due to enjoyment the same enjoyment they had for hours on land so didn’t need to go in that boat that looked like something that was last minute botched up. May there be comfort to the family that has to live with the losses. But we also need to be smarter about our decisions. A boat going out at 4pm that was scheduled for 11:00 am instead nope 👎 red flag 🚩 recipe for disaster

They were too drunk to notice what could happen and the excitement was too much. Those who tried to notice it actually survived cos they were wearing life jackets and listen to all the warnings from the Djs

How freaking horrible! I went from yelling at them for not putting on their jackets to being reminded that they had been partying since early that morning and probably couldn't make a good decision if they were paid... I'm so sorry for the families that lost members and so sorry to the survivors who probably live with survivors'guilt. I just can't imagine!! RIP to all of the victims!! OAN: So they were mad at the host because he made the right choice to put on his life jacket or he knew how to swim? Truthfully, (imo) I believe that every person on the boat had the same chance to survive and unfortunately their time was up... I remember one of the survivors said that one of those who died was trying to pull him down as he drowned. He wanted him to die as well. I never forgot that. Scary.
I don't think he was trying to bring him down with him but the first reaction when going under is to reach for something to hold on to hoping to come up. It happened to me once and I grabbed a girl's leg and came up. Glory be to God
Hey Daniel and members, so glad I found you here. This was just tragic and not something I had of heard before today. I'm Aussie and surprised that the organiser and boat's captain were not criminally prosecuted for this. Over here the families would sue for wrongful death in civil court but I guess the families of these poor victims would not have enough money for that. So sad, you shouldn't have to have your wits about you when drinking and relaxing with friends. A certain level of safety should be in place and enforced. I am praying for the victims and their families. Thanks for sharing their story.
I don't even think the families of these victims are educated enough to understand that there exits some laws that can enable them to sue these people unfortunately. That and what you said about not having enough money to sue.

They wouldn't have intentionally risked their own lives or anyone's. Spreading awareness seems the best we can do as well as praying for the victims and their families.

No amount of money ever could make up for one lost life of anyone. It can help with medical costs but mostly just makes lawyers richer. My heart just burst from the understated enormity of this loss and I wanted to share my empathy and let Daniel know he is getting his message out there. In hindsight I feel dumb for part of what I first commented and am grateful that you were kind enough not to say the same.
On that tragic day we were all in sorrow in Uganda 🇺🇬 Even a popular Ugandan artist and one of the prince of Buganda was in that boat luckily for her and the prince survived. May the souls of those who lost their lives rest in peace

Thank you, Daniel, for the analysis. It is impossible to understand red flags when destiny decides the other ways. The beach party and drinks that was held for hours before the boat arrived contributed hugely to this unfortunate incident. The tragedy could have been minimised had the boat arrived as planned and people did not get too much drink. May Allah grant them Jannah and forgive their short comings.
