The 'financial damage' computation is not correct. You can't just add the refunds (50x$60, returning customers' money) to the production/fulfilment/delivery costs. Out of pocket you only lost the latter, or $1350, plus some reputation damage. A different way to compute the 'damage' would be by looking opportunity cost - what it is vs. what it could have been. With the mistake you're at -$1350 but you could have been at $3000-1350=$1650 in profit. That's a $3000 difference (opportunity cost) plus some reputation damage. You could call it a $1350+ mistake (actual cost) or a $3000+ mistake (opportunity/refund cost) but you can't just add them up. That said, nice video and a worthwhile lesson.
You are fully correct, I should have pointed out this split instead of adding them up together. Additionally, the time lost for handling the refund, doing customer support and investigation could be added to the damage.
Even PETG is not dishwasher proof!! Theres also a bit shrinking. So we write in the manual only 60°C - but some customer can't read. Our failure retourn rate is about 0,5-0,7%
@@3DFarmers Or print with ASA/ABS but for that you need a air filter/vent. In summer sometimes packages arrive customer where the PETG part was melted. Maybe it was on the Dashboard of the delivery driver.
Good lessons here. My etsy shop has been doing better, hit about $350 for the first month. Not great but not bad either, and I'm optimistic for future months
Just be aware that 3D printed drip tray won’t be food safe because of surface finish capturing crud and allowing growth of micro-organisms. This would not get CE certified because of this. The danger in this case is probably very low. But hitting CE certification gives you confidence that you aren’t going to cause any harm with your products.
@@3DFarmers - yeah, I’m not sure as it is a kitchen appliance and has to go in the dishwasher, touch dish cloths etc. I don’t know how strict they would be on it to be honest - but looking at other plastic ones they are generally food safe by choice. HDPE for example. + I haven’t looked into it. If you were a designer you would probably do this “just in case” as you wouldn’t want to have it remoulded

I used PLA-HP from ColorFabb initially with only two walls and 15% cubic infill. Changed then to PETG from Polymaker, three walls, 15% gyroid and tuned retractions, flow rate and pressure advance.

I'm personnally uncertain of how I should go about selling online if I have 1 Bambu P1S printer and how I can manage that with full time work, and also limiting order quantities as I start. I had to choose between these two as well, but after a short test I decided for Fusion because of Autodesks simulation capabilities for future products. The difficulty a lot of people face is to find their niche and leverage their unfair advantage to create original products. That's why my next video might be about the whole ideation process, preferably also using AI.

One reason is if creators on RU-vid display their store link prominently and have a high viewer counts then a lot of people may visit the store just to have a look. When Etsy sees many people going to the store and not buying anything this affects the algorithm such that the store will fall lower and lower for promotion. Less promotion = less sales, and an even further drop.
