Digging the "advanced winking". Super cool technology. Do the front of the glasses have some sort of detector? They have to get in sync with the computer somehow so they're not winking out of phase.
❤️ from what I’ve read it’s often an RF connection and sometimes infrared signals. These seemed to function perfectly when facing away from the tv and even in the next room over.
@@georgedepaz2801 Gav lives in the US and Dan still lives in the UK. They used to film multiple episodes at a time whenever dan came over but he’s currently not allowed too
4:40 ... MIND BLOWN. Of course that's how it works... but I never actually considered what it would look like slowed down. Incredible footage, as always Gavin. Thanks for the upload!
I absolutely love the attitude of this channel. It's not Gavin trying to blow your mind with over the top reactions, it's quite literally just Gav showing up and showing you the equivalent of a cool rock he found and just saying "I just think it's neat!" I do think it's Neat Gav, thanks! Bring me more neat rocks!
Can't decide if this is a swipe at phone makers for not having a headphone jack or the crate for not being up to date. Either way it was hilarious and tbh I'm impressed at the technological level of the crate for something self assembled.
Since we all miss Dan and he’s stuck digging that tunnel underneath the Atlantic. Why don’t you send him some of the footage so you guys can react to it together?
@@AndrewDrewJamison Truly i don't think he's coming back as a common host on the channel at this point, travel restrictions between the UK and the US have loosened significantly as long as you're taking safe precautions, yet no collaborations and Dan hasn't even been doing any filming on his end for the channel at all. It's honestly very peculiar how he's contributed nothing during the pandemic and left Gav to do literally everything.
It's kind of like how, in the military, you might carry around and fire a Javelin missile that costs >$100,000 of taxpayer money. That's not even including the cost of the launcher, which is even higher.
1 Phantom flex 4K = $100000 - $160000. With rigging and lenses, Gav is waving around half a million in gear. It's like swinging around two new Lamborghini Huracán s on his shoulders.
3D gaming was amazing while it lasted. I think 2 Call of Duties had 3D modes, and it made aiming so much more natural. You had a sense of depth, distance, and the red dots made 3D a little OP. Even iron sights were better in 3D, because the rear post was essentially transparent, and you only had to focus on the front post. They basically became red dots without having to sacrifice an attachment.
According to Sony, all PS4 games can be played in 3D on a 3D TV. Not sure if the quality is as good as the PS3 games specifically designed during production to be played in full 3D and of course regular 2D.
I love 3D and 3D TV's. I have always loved the technology, and I was so happy when it came roaring back. I remember seeing 3D for the first time when I went to Universal in the 90's and saw Terminator 2 3D ride and Muppets 4D at Disney. 3D FOREVER!
Thanks for the warning about flashing images in the beginning! 🙂👍 Too many creators don't care about people with epilepsy! (I personally don't have this condition myself, but several of my familymembers do.)
Gavin, this is incredibly interesting. You've outdone yourself with this one. I had no idea there was so much going on with 3D, and that plasma TVs made pictures in 'layers'. Amazing!
It’s a nice thing that you have the warning about flashing images at the beginning of the video. It’s not a problem for me, but I know people who do have problems looking at flashing images and way to many users on RU-vid don’t warn about this.
Still got my Samsung 40inch 3D TV from 2010... still looking good for watching Tron Legacy, A Christmas Carol & Avatar in 3D😊 I do wish I had a 3D camera for my holiday photos though.
@@santa1563 Second stream that he watches in this video looks like Ray's Buckley's would be the first stream that he watches in it, but there were definitely two
I still have my 3d TV but it's those active glasses that killed it off, my TV uses passive glasses the same as the cinema. I've got about 12 pairs of them. 3d is great I hate that one day it will break and I can't get another one.
You rarely hear of people telling viewers to skip their videos due to flashing images, only a warning. Needless to say I still watched this bad boy of a vid. Stay baller
“If you’re sensitive to flashing images, I’d give this whole video a miss.” But I wanna learnnnnnnnnn! Bravely going in for the watch anyway... Update: learnt some things. Have a migraine. Worth it.
I love how he explains the concepts and history of the technology before diving into the actual topic of the video. I wish more teachers were like him.
Can’t believe how far these dudes have come! I remember when they uploaded the big ballon popping slow mo! That was so interesting when I was younger! Also the gun shot under water?! That was pretty dope, I remember them complaining about how they couldn’t capture certain things because of the equipment not being able to go slower! Now they did a video on capturing stuff like 3D TVs and lightning!
I am so glad I bought my 86" Passive 3DTV - its new enough it has 4k, HDR10, Dolby Vision and 120hz refresh but also old enough to have 3D still as I love 3D. Bonus of passive glasses is they are dirt cheap and can be had from anywhere for like $5.
3D and curved TV technology was the most random and short lived thing that TV manufacturers did. This makes me think, will sometime down the line the attempt to make a bezel-less display on a phone slowly die out? This video was extremely interesting! Been watching you guys for about 10 years now and have not lost interest in one video. Each video is very informative and easy to understand while also having a comedic edge to it, while also not being too long that viewers loose interest.
Technology is absolutely amazing and we as humans are amazing to be able to control and edit this kind of stuff so much so that the majority of our species doesn't understand it or care to know how it works. Incredible
I use active shutter lenses almost every night, it's awesome to see how they function in slomo. Got a 3d projector a while back and loaded up a hard drive with every 3d movie I could find. Great form of entertainment 🙂
I saw a video somewhere saying that less advanced 3D glasses simply restrict the alignment of the light being sent through the glasses, one lense for vertical wavelengths, and one for horizontal. This is why if you take the lenses out and overlap them, no light gets through, because whichever lense is at the front of the stack is blocking out the wavelengths that can pass through the lense at the back of the stack.
One of the biggest problems with this 3-D tech was it gave viewers headaches after a short time. Most people I knew with 3-D TVs said they couldn't get through an entire 2 hour movie without having to take an "eye-break".
It doesn’t depend on the eye separation technology, active or passive, or even holographic, but it depends on the fast pace of the film itself, as our eyeballs are not made to be driven by the will of others like puppets, the problem is that not all directors are good with 3D shooting which should be pretty slow and steady as most documentaries usually are, actually 3D is meant to be for documentaries and personal recordings, not so good for movies or cartoons animated with traditional directing techniques made of frequent frame changes during fast paced scenes.
true! while i don't have a 3D TV, i have a 3D monitor, a New 3DS, and several 3D anaglyph & crosseye book. I'm sad that even theaters here have reducing the number of their 3D screening. I used to go to neighboring city to watch 3D movies because the theaters in the city I live doesn't have 3D projector. At least we still have VR headset.
I just want the 3D TVs back. Got my first (and passive) 3D TV back in 2012, after seeing some demos of the active ones. Fell in love. Found passives to be better even! Sitting more than two meters away nullified all the resolution loss many talked about. Still have two (hope they last till 3D TVs return). Watching movies is one thing, but gaming in 3D is just sweet. Sure, VR is great, but can't have family fun. In my opinion, VR and 3D TVs shouldn't be compared, and considered replacements of each other. Wonder if others want 3D TVs back just as much! Heard there was some online petition/signing for this somewhere.
i think i remember seeing a demo of this at a store, but they were using it for multiplayer gaming. instead of split screen, the glasses would sync up to the pulses of the TV and show you your perspective, and someone else could be wearing another pair of glasses that flipped it to only see their perspective. honestly it'd be cool to get something similar to that on more modern tvs.
Are you planning on showing what a I guess “passive” 3D display does? A display like a 3DS that doesn’t use glasses to produce a 3D image. That would be neat to see the comparison.
I love 3D films, it's a shame that the tech didn't evolve, now they're pushing 8K tv's with no 8K content even years later. The only way now to enjoy a 3D movie is in a Dolby Cinema auditorium (in my opinion). I still get goosebumps when Perfect Black is shown just like when THX the audience is listening is played.
We bought a 3D when they first came out. It's incredibly spectacular! Since then, our local cable provider dropped our 3D programming, and we can't find many 3D Bluray movies to watch. I wish the technology had stayed around. The effect is exactly what you'd see at the cinema.
Got a 2nd hand one a few months ago, there are 3-D video's here on you-tube. Not near as cool as the Oculus that my son let me borrow the other day, but the 3-D tv's are nice. I like the nature type stuff.
If only the Opticians stocked prescription 3D glasses Short sighted,Long sighted,Bifocal reading,Sunglasses,React2light even monicalls can be made but 3D.... Not a chance!
Considering that Gav and Dan live on different continents, we probably won't see another video with both of them until Covid is done and travel bans are lifted
It was a Sony TV although there was nothing special about the TV, any 3D TV could do the same. The trick was the glasses...one pair had, essentially two left eyes whilst the other had two right eyes (or two positive in one and two negatives in the other).
So I just found this channel an hour ago and I'm a bit confused. You're telling me Dan lives in the UK and Gav lives in USA and Dan comes to USA to film the videos and then fly back out??? And they started the channel so that Gav can have a visa to come to USA?? *Incredible*. This is literally the most wholesome channel I ever found. (can some long time fan please verify this info and please feel free to add to some of my knowledge).
Most RU-vid users are idiots. The 'like' button is a useless feature. Once you hit 5000 'likes', each new 'like' deletes your oldest 'like'. This garbage website has tons of flaws.
One of the CoD games used this to let two players to play on whole screen at the same time instead of split screen. One pair of glasses was set to left eye and the other to right eye. No idea how good it was in practice but it sounds great.
I dont know about other people but active shutter glasses always gave me a headache after a few minutes, but the grey theater style passive glasses are fine .
Can confirm, 3D on a big screen is amazing. In college I had my projector set up using a blank wall in my (small) dorm room. It equated to a ~200" screen. I played Halo Anniversary in 3D with the 3D effect setting on maximum. It was awesome lol.
I'm so glad I managed to get a new TV right when I did in 2017. The LG E7 is the last LG OLED to support 3D and the first to properly support 4K HDR. I've recently been watching every single stereo 3D movie I could find going back to the the first big studio 3D movies in 1953. A bunch of 3D movies came out 1953 and 1954 and then it was mostly abandoned except for the occasional movie throughout the 60s. Then it had a little comeback in the 80s mostly with cheap horror movies. And of course in the 00s with Avatar. So next wave will perhaps be in the 2030s 🤔🤷
3d movies in VR headsets still look amazing, with the added bonus that they look far brighter because you don't have the polarised/active shutter glasses on.
