We arent gonna talk abt sabans age being a factor? you just believe a 72 year old man was gonna go on coaching indefinitely as he crept up on the average lifespan age? bro has a family he had to go sooner than later
Saban’s dominance influenced college football to change. He was so dominant, he made the BCS go defunct and form the CFP. He made so many coaches get fired and go insane trying to beat him and many never could. His run at Bama will never be duplicated by anyone. His dominance changed the game forever.
This is so sloppy. Saban has always advocated for players getting paid. There's no structure. You have players getting paid to transfer to other schools in the spring to just transfer back to the original school in the fall to get paid again. There's gotta be a better way.
@@Reese1882yw i recall an interview where Saban said players will be paid at some point it should be(then he there out a number while shrugging his shoulders) $2000 per athlete. I am not sure that is advocating for pay vs knowing it was coming and he couldn’t do anything about it.
I'm a huge bama fan and I hear all these bama fans saying that the players are not hungry due to NIL and that is why bama is losing. The top colleges have always been paying but the nil has even the playing field and that is why teams at the top have dropped and teams at the bottom have risen and that is what Nick couldn't handle.
Top Colleges have always been paying - under the table. Bama didn't get caught paying for players. That's why they were dominant. NIL (Now It's Legal) took his edge away so he quit. Easy to figure out.
If the NCAA would have taken care of things 25 years ago we would not be having this problem today. The NIL will be straightened out but it is a mess right now.
The obvious elephant in the room is that Bama was paying players, the NCAA didn’t do anything about it, and then once everyone could pay players, Bama fell.
this should have happened years ago, the fact it took till 2019 to get fully established is the real crime. Even the man who cemented full blown amateurism into college sports admitted later it was a big mistake. Amateurism as a culture is an outdated creation of Victorian era elite who could afford to just play sports for fun and nothing else but people need motivation to compete and money is a strong motivator.
Saban was against players getting paid because he believes money shouldn't poison sports. No one knows this, but Saban did the entire job at alabama for free. He never cared about money. NIL ruined sports, and Saban never took a dime from Alabama.
from a student athlete at Alabama currently... this is terrible from the ncaa. with revenue sharing, the only teams that are benefitting is the football and basketball programs and it has bled the other sports dry. their rosters are being cut into thirds next year. so basically the rich got richer and the poor got poorer, the only "equalizing" is in football but not for any other sports. like from a fan perspective its like "too bad get your money up" but from a student athlete perspective it's damning if you're not one of the few sports that benefit from nil and revenue sharing.
you should think about writing a memoir or a book! with it being the beginning of NIL times, I think there’s a ton that us on the outside don’t see or understand about the effects NIL has on the rest of collegiate sports! I think it could be a great way to talk about your experience and share it with the world, if you have the time that is! roll tide!
They are the only sports making enough money to support all the other sports. If not what does woman’s basketball? Yeah we found out real quick about that one Angel Reese stopped that.
Yea, that's because the general public could give 2 shits about women's soccer. Those programs and players are getting the money because they DESERVE it! Other sports programs don't receive multi million dollar TV deals either.
chrisd6287 right but that doesn’t mean that their programs have to be sliced to give 4th stringers some extra cash. The system has worked just fine for over a century. It’s about the people who play the sports, not just the sports themselves
You forgot to mention Deestroying's lawsuit against the NCAA which forced them to fold as well. Tbh guys now can go to these top schools, be there for 2 years get elite training and go to a smaller school to get more playing time. So they get good training and leave and be the big man on campus somewhere else.
It’s not NIL it’s pay for play. Guys are getting paid 6 figures just for showing up but they don’t have contracts. There is nothing requiring either the players or the payers to complete their promised obligations.
I've said it before NIL reset everything for college sports, that's why after 1 year with it, Saban left. That's why he wasn't that good in the pros, he can't control them or discipline them, they'll go to the GM or owner, and plus they're grown men playing for money, there's only a set of rules that they follow, but it's a shorter list than college kids.
I despised them damn O' Bannon brothers when they swept the floor with my Defending National Championsip Arkansas Razorbacks lol (very interesting video though. College sports will never be the same.)
Not a bama fans at all, but he is very wise. The game as he states in his mind, thoughts is 100% facts. The game has changed and unfortunately the lack of loyalty is a stain on college ball.
Alabama has 15 Championships, and aren't even #1 in the NCAA (Yale with 18). Then there are the celtics with 18 total and 8 in a row, not to mention the Montreal Canadiens with 24, and last, and most certainly hated the most, the Yankees with 27. Boy - they sure do breed y'all dumb down there. Next you'll say Alabama is a nice place to live in (while being ranked bottom 5 in health, happiness, wealth, and any other good category you can imagine). Of course, you wouldn't know any better since you guys don't get edumacated 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@Ekaustonian allow me to educate you, Alabama has claim to 18 national titles in the years 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2020.
@@Ekaustonian you’re calling others dumb when you could’ve googled Bama’s championships and seen they have 18! guess the “edumacation” isn’t much better wherever you’re from! 😂
Amen. Nothing sacred anymore. No loyalty. No facing adversity. Player thinks he has been wronged, he leaves for easier pastures. Easier isn't always better.
Ed started the tipping of the first domino, and Michigan and Harbaugh tipped the last one over. Bama won’t win a Natty again. When Saban and his boosters couldn’t out pay for recruits, and the field of recruiting leveled without cheating for recruits, he ducked out of the job. He lost is best advantage.
Eventually they'll have to put in a salary cap so that teams can only spend so much per season, otherwise teams like Texas & Texas A&M with all of that oil money can just out spend everyone. They also need to limit the number of times a player can transfer without having to sit out a year.
Hahaha thanks brother for watching. We are going to start posting some great stories via our newsletter too, worth checking out. Thanks again and love the username…the fridge 😂lmao
@@firstteamfootball thank you🙏🏽 completely missed it. great vid, incredibly informative. Also insane to really look at Saban/Alabama dynasty they built. wonder if we’ll see similar dynasty begin in years to come
i know College football is different than the NFL, but whenever i hear the phrase "... superstar Bryce Young," i do giggle a little... i mean.. first overall pick? really?
Don’t get me wrong, I think the players ABSOLUTELY should get compensated for how much money they bring in. But the way it is run right now is like the Wild West. I just wonder what is next…
He knew his team was not good enough so he retired. Do you really think he would've retired if he knew he would win a championship? NO. It's evident all you have to do is look
Are we to believe that a California jackwagon rammed something down the country’s throat that had “unintended” consequences? (If I wore pearls, I would be clutching at them)
Hell of a video I don’t know how I feel about NHL. I definitely believe students should be compensated, but I do think it’s messing with the game but more than the NIL. I hate the transfer portal as a gator fan seeing our best running back go to our arch rival killed me a little on the inside. I feel like there should be some type of rules in place for both. It shouldn’t be the wild West.
Poor take some people just make stuff up nick sabans last season had the highest rated recruit class in the history of college football during NIL took a young team to the playoffs during Nil .foolish take
As much as I like the info of this video, NONE of what you are posting has anything to do with why Bama has lost the games it did in 2023 and 2024 so far and why Saban retired. He admitted the grind was too hard. Still was at the top in recruiting with NIL in existence along with Kalen now still at the top. You may have wanted to do more research on a proper title for your post because NONE of this is why Saban retired. All these actions did was create a level playing field for the schools who have deeper pockets. Try not to spread this type of misinformation in the future.
I was just talking about this subject the other day so I gotta give it to, you know ball. One thing I wanted to comment on is that, I don't think Dabo is a Saban protege. Dabo took the HC job in 2008 and before then was involved with his alma mater, Alabama, back in 2000.
Appreciate the positive feedback. Of course there were a lot of factors that went into it, but he did specifically mention that the transfer portal and concerns over how much players were going to get paid were contributing factors
He believed in discipline, practice, hard work..His way was not about the one but all for one, this totally goes against the nature of most player today.. For them its about what can they do for me not about what the individual working with others as a team can do for said Institution.. Mirrors society in general..Bama wont be Sabans Bama for a long time..Two great coaches gone in a matter of months..Saban and Belichick..😢
the only solution to this nil is crap is shift you recruiting to people who want to be there. if they got nil deals and this sport is no more amateurism, fine, let them sign a contract when signing up for the scholarship. make a 4 your deal, no transfers and buyout option if they still think they want to transfer. suckers and losers if they want to transfer if they didnt get their shit together adn get a winnign season on the pitch.
@firstteamfootball I guessed that this video had something to do with his case against the NCAA regarding likeness. I studied it in law school. People have made the argument that the NIL has leveled the playing field when it comes to recruiting and is one of the reasons why Saban retired. I personally think it had a part in it but I also think being a college football coach wears you down and Saban would have probably retired sooner than later regardless if NIL was in play or not.
They deserve to get paid because there's so much money being made its wrong for them not to benefit, but its officially ruined college football. It's definitely semi pro.sports now. They better get some kind of rules for money and tampering, or the richer schools will steal players.
Yea this shit is trash. This & the portal. Y’all can say all yall want but the portal & nil are ruining college football. That & the stupid decisions the ncaa keeps making like creating huge conferences that’s killing traditions etc
Fans should reconsider their support for college football, as the rise of NIL deals has shifted the focus from tradition and passion to profit. This commercialization may undermine the essence of the sport that many cherish.
These young men and women need to learn how to handle money, think about their future, and learn legal terms and contract law. These colleges need guide these young people.
Started the video by having the wrong recruiting seasons for Julio, Hightower, Mcclain, etc. It's minor, but shows that the creator googled 2007 and 2008 recruiting classes, thinking that those would be the players for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. In other words...just reciting search results and not really familiar with the subject.
