How a Bowling Alley Works

Here is an animation I did that shows how a bowling alley works. This particular design is taken mostly from Brunswick's pinsetter. The ball return is taken from AMF's Gripper ball lift. Please note that I wasn't going for an exact representation of a particular type of bowling alley. This was just to demonstrate the basic understanding of how it all works. I created the geometry in 3ds max and the animation was done in Cinema 4D. I then used After Effects to compile everything and to add sound effects etc.

I use to work in a bowling place almost 30 years ago. The system hasn't changed alot since then, the biggest difference is there was no camera and no laser detector. The way the machine knew a ball came in is by hitting back of the pin deck and triggering it to cycle. There were 2 elevator wheels next to each other one for the pins and another for the ball. The ball wheel had some padding that helped grab the ball and pull it up to the ball return. Pins and balls often mixed but eventually fell into its proper wheels.

Check out @Jared Owen’s bowling video. He does a much better job at explaining the system in detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Iod6uwUGM2E.html

The entertainment world is evil. you see the huge work they put in creating all these entertainment play things in the world? It’s non other than to force us to play that this is the way of life... People have forgotten Allah Our Creator The High The Great The Truth The Light... This is the life the blessings the right path we are becoming evil by turning away and we don’t notice it as children because we didn’t know much about truth about life. @@terrie7814 yes and no. at least on my machines. Once the ball trips the sensor to start the rerack of the machine a motor pushes a switch to keep the ball door shut, to keep the ball in the back until the pins have settled down so they don’t get through. The switch stays down for maybe 2 seconds then lifts to let the ball fall through. after which a motorized belt launches the ball underground to the front ball return.

The unusual part of the A2 is that the machine is almost purely mechanical, only few switches in the entire machine (3 for power control, two for errors, one for the active cycle lights) everything else is run by one motor with belts and pulleys, with a complex system of cams and gears controlling everything from table height, the rake action and even holding the table up on second cycle. It has my favorite ball return design of all pinsetters for sure! the actual A2 drops them into a fun rail track mounted in the middle of the wheel in the back. as the description states this video does a great job as an introduction to pinsetters and I really hope it gets more people interested like i was so many years ago

LOL, This pinsetter model seems like a hodge-podge of Brunswick AND amf. Brunswick rake and deck, but the ball wheel in the pit is actually AMF, along with the conveyor belt that lifts the ball and sends it to the ball return.

I was wanting to see if anyone else noticed that the deck turret and rake assembly were brunswick A2 and the rest was AMF! On a side note, the deck animation wasn't correct....

@Shouk02

The one problem with this is it says the machine needs to know which pins to pick up. It actually tries to pick up all of them, and uses the information of which ones it doesn't have to score.

@Henrix1998
@Henrix1998 5 лет назад
Yeah I was thinking the same, using camera(s) feels way too complicated and a pin can end up behind two other pins so you would need actually a top down shot to count the remaining pins
@dawg897
@dawg897 5 лет назад
@@Henrix1998 former pinsetter mechanic here. the camera does take the pic. lol adjusted enough of them for being out of wack. but your condition of not seeing is true but does not happen that often. and the player does have the score over ride if need be to fix the score. and the camera for the most part is actually looking at the neck of the pins the smallest dia of the pin so easier to see and also the cameras are not high res. no very low res and pixelated image is use to compute the differences. and besides 95% of the time the pins stay in one place or is knocked down out of the cameras view. and the angle of the camera to the pins (one camera for one pair of lanes) is such that each pin is seen and seperated from the others with ease. in other words there is a point of view where all 10 pins can be seen clearly all at the same instance. that angle also includes height from the pin deck as well.

Hahaha no lol. It was mainly just a joke when I put the video together. I don't think there's any computer tied to the lanes lol
@evalancer36
@evalancer36 6 лет назад
actually your not far off. there is a pc tied to the lanes although most lanes work as a pair and there are some faults that cant be fixed with out taking its pair offline . they also share a ball return between the pair. an experienced pinsetter tech can identify a problem by the noises the lane is making well before the cpu's sensors time out and start throwing error codes and flashy red lights.

It's an uncanny valley vibe that all animated films have, and it doesn't help that the music is from like 100 years ago, which is the kind of music they use in horror movies, in old honted houses.
@Mr.Soupik

Vincent I agree! I also feel that the V O I D surrounding the video plays a major role in the matter.
@vincent3060
@vincent3060 4 года назад
@@Mr.Soupik I was to focus on the lecture to notice that, but you're right, it's dark like a resident evil room. And with no noise in the environment, makes it feel empty and dead. Like image being locked in a dark bolling alley, by yourself, with very little light. You're right, that's the main problem. I didn't notice because I was looking at it through the mindset of an entrepreneur, all I was thinking is whoever invented this system and patented it made millions of dollars, and their children and grandchildren are financially set for life. Because people will be bolling even when 16K UHD video games come out. People want to participate in a real experience sometimes, not just a remote control video game stuck indoors all the time.
