I graduated from canossian school as I can relate since I'm deaf on both ears. This school is very supportive and always teach how to pronounce properly using speech, and probably sign language which is highly encouraged to learn. It was fun in school and you can talk to deafies people who can relate and have fun when they can understand.
Actually they do have sign language as a lesson but I'm not so sure since my old seniors and my friends do naturally learn sign language as some still used plus I did heard from my old teacher who teach this school asking my opinion for sign language which I did encourage her to let students to learn. If they did not have which is still can be self taught ^^ Edit: I think it is mostly depends maybe have or not but it is okay since they have speech therapy!
i graduated from CCPS (used to be called Canossa Convent Primary School) in 2010. so I've experienced having some of my classes with some hearing-impaired children and I know it's not easy to look after them. props to the mum for persevering
i also graduated from ccps 2 years ago and i know this girl. she was my junior. i’m proud that she’s inspiring people like this. she’s a really nice person and always likes to help people around her.
I’m a Malaysian dentistry student and one of my current denture patient is deaf and mute. It’s my first time encountering such patients and I must say a first it wasn’t easy communicating with him. I tried to pick up sign language on my own but unfortunately the patient did not received any formal sign language education. According to him, the amenities and formal education provided by the Msian government to the deaf, mute and blind communities is very very limited. Hence, I hope to make a change to him someday. Also, he happens to be my most cheerful and high spirited patients in my five years of study.
My two daughters , one has graduated , and another is still in canossa catholic school . This school really go beyond their needs to help each and everyone . My daughter was in the same class as her , and she always feel there’s nothing weird or funny being in the same class as her hearing aids friend . To the school, everyone is the same , there’s no differences, no matter what background you come from they treat you with love and care . Within the schools ,the staffs and teachers go beyond their needs . The sisters ( nuns) are still residing in the school , they will always be there looking after the children be it during recess , before or after school. The school ideas about putting the children with hearing needs together with the other normal students were definitely a genius idea . To teach the children acceptance, to be caring , to always keep a look out on others, and never sideline anyone . For those parents whom really is looking for a holistic , and caring primary school this place really is a blessings . I thank god everyday for placing my daughters in this school .
She's such a bright and positive girl! I hope she gets the chance to learn sign language though, it'll make communication so much easier and she won't have to rely on an extra device. Plus, it'll open up a whole community to her :o I joined a sign language CCA for a bit back in school and I think once you start using it in your daily life it'll be much easier to pick up!
the extra device is helpful. keep it. but yes, sign language is a language. how iffah is struggling with speaking (only because she cannot hear them), i think mom should try to pick up some sign language as well. keep all of it, lip reading, using technology, voicing words, and sign language. iffah has a lot of things to express. give her all these tools to explore the world and communicate. remember, communication is two way.
Great; having a devise to communicate in the family, cant go anywhere without it, easy for hearing people to just keep going but not learning a language that she can understand meaning sign language.
I have also graduated from ccps in 2016 and this is indeed an inclusive school where there’s no segregation between those from canossian school and the main stream school. I have classmates who have hearing lost yet I made such good friends with them. I even had one hearing loss classmate who did so well in math that she consistently scored A. So I would say that I’m proud to have chosen ccps as my primary school for it being such a lovely and wonderful experience
Same, I was from CCPS, and we were very inclusive. I was and still am friends with a girl who has hearing problems, and she is also awesome at math, man, she's so much more talented than me. But lol, the new principal is so strict tho, I got scolded from her before...oops.
I actually understand iffah here. I was also born profoundly deaf and I also hear with devices on my ears. People too ask me "what is that on ur ear?" I just say it's something I hear with.
It's cruel to not teach your child a language that they will actually be able to understand. How isolating must it be to not be able to communicate (properly) to the people closest to you.
The mom is kind of.... idk. Rather than thinking of how to help her daughter and what will be good for her, shes thinking about ways of how outsiders can feel comfortable interacting with her daughter. Instead of thinking that signing lessons will be hard on herself as a mother, why not join her daughter in learning it, it would be so good for her. But anyways she seems like a fast learner and she is surely a smart girl. All the best for her!
I could understand her without the subtitles. I know her mum is trying to help her adjust to the world of hearing. So that she can be able to connect with others. But not learning sign language is also hindering her from talking to others like her. Because she can't always meet deaf people who can talk
and shes got so much to communicate about. she didnt go pe because.. "Sweat bands" technology and the struggle to speak shouldnt slow down her communication. and sign language isnt that hard. every language got nuances (you might sign wrong) but yeah, mom.. open up to exploring sign language on top of speech and tools. you gotta learn too, maam. her world is different from yours despite "speaking like a hearing person"
Awww ... i graduated from CCPS during the year of 2017 !!! So far a great school !!! She seems cute , sweet & friendly ... keep on persevering don't give up okay ? She's gonna grow up being rlly smart & pretty !!! - Love from the senior 5 yrs ago hehe ❤
Very cute and good girl don't worry what people say about you.. you are honestly better then some normal people.. god is with you.. I can understand how you feel but don't worry abt anything just carry on studying you have a bright future ..mingle with the good ones take care 😊🙏
can relate, people used to ask about my implant all the time when i wore coloured covers on it then i stopped wearing them since my implant were black it blended in well, i'm grateful i can speak even with profound hearing loss
Sign language with music and or talkin may be helpful in combination to help with communication farther in rapid progress. Look up Rachel Coleman and her daughter Leah from signing time.
this video made me understand more of kids with hearing implants, i am in a tuition center with one of them. i always thought nor assumed some things that are wrong before i watched this, i felt so guilty now after thinking about it. anyways, no matter who you are, never give up.
Hello fellow sacians, back in sac pri we do have plenty of hearing impaired classmates and most of them are marvellous and smart students.. and they’re in the mainstream and way smarter then most of us
People always asked me what is that on your ear? And I told them it hearing aid, it helps me to hear and ask me anytime if you want to learn sigh language! :)
very heartwarming... its so nice to see social support systems in place and the dedication of various individuals to help Iffah find her voice...Hope Siti and Iffah will read the comments and be encouraged by the support too :)
This is my first time seeing someone with two implants on. My childhood friend has only one to hear for both ears. When she got sick with a bad cold it knocked her hearing out on the side without the implant. So every few weeks she has to put a hearing aid on that side to retrain that side to hear again. Now i think she does it every few months or no longer has to anymore. Iffah is a very bright girl and her smile is beautiful
I am hearing impaired too.. people would make fun of me saying i have that dolphin tone and would even require people to repeat but i insist to be more confident and accept my hearing loss. This is also my way of accepting other disabilities as not disabilities but life challenges. I do believe we can do it where normal people could never understand or accpet it even at older age.:) all the way girl!
This make me remember the "silent voice" anime That really right in the kokoro Man keep the spirit girl, and for the mom you are great mother, idk what to say. But both of you is great person, that is
I am an student from high school as I say this is true she gonna have a good life in soon I don't think she gonna it I know she gonna have. I was born with deaf I have ear aids I can pronounce but it's hard to understand with normal people that u don't know them. That the reason Deaf is like if it's 1 meter it can hear 4 meter less hear than 1 meter but normal people is not like that.
Idk... I feel like giving the mum the benefit of doubt, she clearly loves her daughter a lot, and i saw her signing a little bit so maybe she is making an effort. Not everyone can pick up a new language easily, but i do hope she is at least trying
