The IMI Desert Eagle is a semi-automatic handgun notable for chambering the largest centerfire cartridge of any magazine fed, self-loading pistol. It has a unique design with a triangular barrel and large muzzle. Magnum Research Inc. (MRI) designed and developed the Desert Eagle. The design was refined and the actual pistols were manufactured by Israel Military Industries until 1995, when MRI shifted the manufacturing contract to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, MRI moved manufacturing back to IMI, which later reorganized under the name Israel Weapon Industries. Since 2009, the Desert Eagle Pistol has been produced in the United States at MRI's Pillager, MN facility. Kahr Arms acquired Magnum Research in the middle of 2010. The Desert Eagle has been featured in roughly 500 motion pictures and TV films, along with several video games (especially the Resident Evil series, Counter-Strike series, Grand Theft Auto series, Tomb Raider series, Far Cry series, Left 4 Dead series, and Call of Duty series), making it well known in popular culture.

For such a large pistol developed to shoot hot magnum rounds, I have seen some failures that might show it is not so tough. Pistons can break after just 500 rounds, and by that time there is noticeable wear on the spring plate. On another video here on YT a chap shows the wear on the slide near the piston chamber, methinks some components could have been designed better.

Bullets are kept inside of magazines which have a follower and a spring to make them go up, it's the bolt which houses the firing pin and chambers a round of the magazine by going behind and on top of that bullet, then going back forward and guide it to a little ramp so it can go into the chamber

lol it has a unique triangular barrel? uh no.. the barrel is round like all other guns..... you must be thinking of that really old triagular rounds gun... they called the ammo trounds. LOL ps is wouldn't matter if its gas or just plain blowback, all gas operated does is push the slide back after the round is almost out of the barrel..
@MrRoboskippy
@MrRoboskippy 4 года назад
No. The gas operation delays the push back of the slide until the pressure in the chamber is low enough to open safely. If it was a blowback operation it would open immediately causing injury to the user.
@niceguy60
@niceguy60 6 лет назад
The problem with this design is the gun uses the gas from the round to push the slide back, if your body recoils or you limp wrist with the gun there will be no counter force for the slide to cycle the weapon correctly hence you get jams. A unreliable weapon by design, in a high stress scenario no one going to make a precise body stance that this gun needs top priority over self preservation and aim.
@luiyijose78
@luiyijose78 6 лет назад
you forgot to say the positive side of using gas to push the slide back, this issue you presenting is only applicable to Blowback pistols, there is a counter force, springs
@sxleong
@sxleong 6 лет назад
Dont all pistols excluding revolvers use gas from the explosion to push back the slide?
@niceguy60

@sxleong
@sxleong 6 лет назад

@Matticus289
@Matticus289 5 лет назад
I guess I kind of agree, but if you have that weak a wrist, you're not going to want this gun anyway. Having been shooting and reloading for these guns for years, I don't find them any more prone to jamming than most other handguns provided the ammo isn't loaded weak and the person shooting it isn't weak (no special stance needed).
