I need to announce the misinformation in my video, Nozaki kun is NOT a Shoujo manga but instead a Shounen manga, thank you for those educating me and thank you all for all the unfathomable support on this video. I was not expecting this one bit and it has been insane, glad to be able to summon all the Nozaki fans here!
No, no, actually. It's a shoujo. Idk who told you it's shounen. The main character is Chiyo, a girl. And the story is written by a woman. It's a manga about school life, comedy, with Romance being implied but frustratingly sidelined in a good way. Clearly it's pointed towards the girl audience although the comedy also suited towards the boys audience. Although the magazine is 'officially' Shounen/Seinen, it housed others and it's hard to say some of those serialization is pointed towards boys or men.
Idk if it’s either shoujo or shounen. But it definitely has more shoujo vibes. Also didn’t realize the publisher was officially shounen. Looking at their other publications, doesn’t give me that vibe. But maybe they just started shounen. Or are they required to choose a demographic
Whenever he shows up on screen i scream “MIKORIN!!!!!!!” And then proceed to squeal and mutter like a crazy person about how he’s so baby girl while giggling like a toddler. I am SO normal about this guy.
I find it funny is that the characters can be both the straightman and the idiot in a comedy duo. You don’t know when or if they’re going to be either so you don’t know if their seriousness will emphasis the stupidity or they will double down on it. The best part is that it make sense for them to act like both.
They're all their own flavor of stupid that they look normal and insane compared to each other's flavors of stupid. Izumi Tsubaki writes the best lovable idiots ever
I just love the fact that all female characters in Nozaki's manga are based on his male friends. He considers them to have more feminine shojo level traits! 😂😂😂
The mangaka who wrote the original manga is literally one of my favorites. Her comedy is unmatched in Nozaki-kun and Oresama Teacher -- her characters always have weird quirks and are all uniquely dumb but not annoying. Nozaki-kun is actually technically a shounen due to where it's serialized, but even the original manga has been gradual on the romantic developments (they're actually getting there and funnily, a side pair became canon faster than one of the three main pairs). And this mangaka's other story is actually a shoujo but it doesn't act like it since its premise is a teen girl who gets kicked out of school for being a gang boss and tries to make friends at a new school (is seemingly nervous around other girls) and is forced to join a disciplinary committee and fight the student council a little bit. And there's no romance in that shoujo, just a whole cast of lovable idiots with the main character being one of the most lovable idiots I've ever had the pleasure to read
I love how anyone in the cast can interact eachother, making the most bizarre combination in comedic dynamic. Edit: There's is the one vivid scene I will always remember. Mikoshiba and Nozaki played a dating sim to get more material for his manga, but ended up rooting for a male npc in the end. Worst part is, they drew yaoi instead of shoujo because of this npc. I just can't stop thinking about this, it's so funny 😂
@@sladekuro there are some many shenanigans that I love about this anime, and it's highly a recommendation for me for a slice of life with a ton of comedy.
In the latest manga chapters, kashima and seyus brother ( omg he has more romance than main character like wth in manga he is existent) talks in a cafe and like that is bizarrest how did yall find each other
For me it's the OVA where the guys lose their boxers in the middle of the ocean then when Sakura recovers it she threw it at them.... and it rolled away in the crashing waves 🤣🤣
the Tomoda-kun doujinshi bit lives rent free in my head. the fact that we have these 2 high school boys who spend their night thinking "hmm I love this game. I want to make some fan stuff. but let's make it canon compliant because we have to think of the fictional character's feelings!" and then they just end up pulling an all nighter to draw a bl doujinshi... I love them sm
Monthly Girl’s Nozaki-kun is also a four koma manga, meaning all of the gags, jokes and stories are done using only 4 horizontal panels of drawings. One of my favorite recurring gags is when two people unrelated to the main characters react to whatever the situation they see from an outside perspective, leading to hilarious misunderstanding moments that doesn’t affect the main characters at all, it’s amazing.
The Japanese VA for Mikoshiba is the same as the VA for Bakugo Katsuki in MHA, and Nishinoya in Haikyuu. I watched Nozaki Kun after having watched both those and hearing his voice doing Mikoahiba's flirty anxiety muppet voice was extra hilarious. :-)
To be fair, as the manga goes on the plot advances, the dynamics change slowly, an unexpected romance blooms and it was glorious cause we all thought it was gonna end up as a joke but then it was sincere and wholesome and the fans cried, solid storytelling. The only crime in the anime is skipping Nozaki's bro Mayu, his bits are so good
The ✨fact✨ that the manga gets better and better the more characters are introduced and developed in contrast to most romances with large cast members 🥰👌 I keep desperately waiting for season 2, 3, and 4 just so the hilarious chaotic misunderstandings in the story reaches a larger audience 😭
The only person who has any access to brain cells in this show is Nozaki's editor. Anytime you think someone to starting to grow some, it gets transported to Ken. I wouldn't have it any other way
Fun fact, mikoshiba is supposed to have a love interest as well! But his character of being scared of strangers (and shy of girls) made it hard for the author to give him one,,, so the love interest was designed as a guy friend instead as another character that i believe only shows up in the manga, sadly. He's Nozaki's younger brother! Laziest guy on earth with only one passion : Judo. Hes so lazy he got his friend to reply using his phone instead of doing it himself lmao Another thing, theres a spin off one shot manga named Monthly Girls Nozaki-san (The original is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-*kun*, the spin off is Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-*san* because the mc is female) where it follows the original concept of the manga, but reworked to be set in the future with the characters being the younger siblings/juniors of the current cast! (The main POV character is Nozaki's younger sister) Check it out if you're interested! The female mc has the very weird humour of Nozaki but the cheerfulness of Chiyo, while the male mc is a straight laced transfer student being roped into her shenanigans, reacting to everything she does with deadpan humour, very funny!
Oh god, the goat of modern shoujo anime.... no body talks about it anymore. OST so greattt i still listen and karaoked to it all the time. And guys!!! I just found out the whole ost is finally available on spotify omg 😭
Nozaki is the embodiment of "so uncool and lame but doesn't care (or doesn't notice in his case maybe...) that he is cool again" I really loved this anime from the first time I watched it, and like you said all the characters are so unique. They feel like parodies of character archetypes but are done so well that they... made a new type of character? Does that make sense? That's how I feel at least.
This is basically my favorite anime, and it's nice to see someone talking about it with a similar enthusiasm I have for it. The only thing that I have a gripe about with this series is that manga serialization is super slow... like I know it's monthly but c'mon.
OMG I LOVE MONTHLY GIRLS NOSAKI KUN istg no other romcom anime has ever hit like it it needs to be talked about more 😭😭😭 if anyone has other recs with similar comedy plsss send EDIT: thank you everyone for your suggestions!!!!!
NOZAKI KUN IN 2024, IVE BEEN DYING FOR SOMEONE TO TALK ABOUT THIS SHOW BECAUSE I WAS OBSESSED AND I MEAN *OBSESSED* WITH IT LAST YEAR WHEN DISCOVERING IT but was disappointed on lack of discussion about it, it’s seriously my comfort manga, The anime is PHENOMENAL as in I love the voice cast (both sub and dub although I’m more familiar with the dub) and visual gags and everything and every day wish for a season 2 after reading the manga as I would love many chapters to see it being animated I mean with almost 10+ years of chapters, there are a lot and even the new chapters (in my opinion) still hold up as it did 10 years ago, whenever a new chapter finally gets translated by CMC crew on Tumblr, It’s still funny, makes me giggle, nozaki kun is just one of those series that made me physically laugh so hard that people have been scared One of my favorite things about this series is just the characters just like you described them, just every little quirk about them, I’m just immediately endeared towards them more and more as I read manga chapters and I can go on a HUGE rant of my love for these characters and mikoshiba and the ships Honestly though I don’t mind the fact that the romance is slow, actually I THRIVE the fact it’s slow, which is weird cause slow burns are annoying yet the structure of nozaki kun just works for its own series, although I’m more invested in Horikashi and Seowaka, and oh boy. Horikashi as much as I love them, IS SO FRUSTRATING *SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA JUST INCASE IF YOU WANNA READ* Like they have so many chapters where they seem canon? Like they say the I like and love you’s and stuff and just so much more that seem like they’re now an official couple but no! Next chapter they seem to go normal AND ITS AAAA GET TOGETHER ALREADY I CANNOT TAKE IT BECAUSE THE WAY THEY INTERACT JUSR SEEMS LIKE THEYRE ALMOST CANON BUT THEYRE NOT, LIKE WHAT DO WE NEED FOR THEM TO BE CANON? But it’s fine, I do see a bit of progress and in the end of the day, I am still happy to see chapters with them as their dynamic is just funny and endearing. Im not sure if I’m the only who feels that way on Horikashi tho. My opinions on seowaka is always positive! Love their dynamic and is the most underrated pairing in the whole fanbase of the show? Like I don’t see enough people make art or just talk about them? Idk tho Ok rant over. Had to control myself from going out of spiral into talking about everything and it’s been 30 minutes, sorry if I made spelling mistakes on the way cause I tend to do that!
OMG SAME I DISCOVERED IT THE MANGA A FEW YEARS AGO AND LOVED IT SM BUT LIKE NO ONE I KNEW HAD THE SAME LOVE FOR IT T___T but I also like going on the reddit even its not super active
@@user-gr1fs5gt7h SAME but I go on tumblr and Pinterest for the fanart, I’ve explored Reddit a bit tho going under r/manga subreddit and with every chapter update, I see the comment section for the people’s opinion I did join gsnk subreddit but it’s not too active yeah
my brother and i watched nozaki kun and we laughed our ass off for every single episode and it really bonded us as siblings LOOOLL this show has such a place in my heart my brother and i yelled when we couldn’t find a season 2…….
It makes me SO happy to see someone talking about this anime because it’s just so goofy and enjoyable. This video basically goes over basically EVERYTHING I love about this anime.
Totally that! I even forgot I had watched this anime before, I loved it so much- like- I was at my happiest when I was watching it, maybe I'll rewatch it or read the manga, gotta laugh at how dumb and cute it is XD
for me the thing that makes Nozaki works is that while it's a parody, it never really insists to be a parody in the text. It's not mean-spirited, it doesn't lazily rely on "breaking the fourth wall" to acknowledge the hilarity of shojo tropes, and everything the characters do flow naturally. In every almost-romance situation you're not left feeling baited bc the characters still interact in a fun, interesting way. And when there's actual development, it hits hard bc it catches you off-guard. In most romance I'd get frustrated if the story doesn't have at least a hug scene, but Nozaki got me excited for something as simple as first name basis or Nozaki being worried for Sakura for like, 3 panels lol
I got 5 minutes into the video and then immediately went and binge-watched all the episodes... I loved it and all the different personalities of the characters!
I had no idea that the anime had that ending until I watched that Garnt video. The manga is so funny. And just so you know, the manga is a Shónen, but Izumi Tsubaki has written other works for Shójo magazines, namely Oresama Teacher.
omggg i watched nozaki-kun aaaaall the way back when it aired and it was an immediate 10/10 for me i LOVED this series this really makes me want to go back and rewatch it ❤ (also i love your little ghost avatar! so cutes :3 )
YESYESYESYESYESYESYES i finally see someone talking ab Nozaki Kun!!!!! I watched this in one weekend on Netflix a couple years back and I loooove it and it deserves all the attention!
I was just rereading Vol 14 yesterday and lamenting that we haven't gotten a S2 yet! Like it's been 10 years!! Also if u want other anime that scratch the Nozaki itch, try Handa-kun and Barakamon! They don't have much (or anything) to do with romance, but the humor and misunderstandings turned comedy is very similar. Of course, Tsubaki-sensei's other manga are very funny and I definitely recommend them as well!
Ah yes! Barakamon and Handa-kun are treasures too! Handa-kun is more for the sillies but Barakamon is I think more of a touching story with a lot of fun
Yeesss Barakamon reaches the comedy level. Instead of romance, it shows a beautiful friendship that grows between the main cast of varying ages. It's like a found family type of vibe, super heartwarming and fun 🥹 Also Handa-kun is a spin-off of Barakamon that focuses on the main protagonist in high-school, it's extra silliness lol (my pfp is from barakamon 😂)
Thank you for talking about nozaki kun in 2024 omg, it’s been one of my favorites since around when it debuted and I love seeing people actually acknowledge its existence
listen, the anime is good but the manga. THE MANGA. it's a freakin' 4koma with character depth, storylines and the best jokes I have ever seen. I don't know how Tsubaki-sensei puts all that into 4 goddamn frames. I cannot read it without ending up laugh crying every time
Nozaki kun is one of my all time favorites its takes a permanent slot in my instant recommendations up there with FMA:B. I think any anime enjoyer needs to watch it
I love this show so much I read the whole manga up until a certain point because I got tired of having to wait for updates this makes me wanna pick it up again
nozaki-kun is the perfect anime if you need a pick me up. i was feeling depressed a while back and looked for a short anime to distract me and i left nozaki-kun having laughed so hard i cried.
I watched this anime when it first came out and loved it, then I went and FORGOT WHAT IT WAS CALLED and have been searching ever since. THANK YOU YAHIREI, AND THANK YOU BLESSED ALGORITHM
@aniism I would suggest that you read the manga because the fireworks bit was actually an anime only thing. The manga actually has some excruciatingly slow, yet rewarding romantic development.
@@asinicw9906 oh! i see, thank you for letting me know. the comedy was excellent but as a shoujo girly, that false confession drove me crazy. i will give the manga a try. i love me some slow burn too >w
monthly girls nozaki-kun is one of my absolute favorite show ever!! i love how every character is shown or at least i interpretated that they're all queer! kashima being the definition of 'imma steal your girl" but is loyal to her short bf, mikorin not denying being gay is win for me, chiyo going in a frenzy for kashima and nozaki being an asexual icon!! all of them are chaotic queers and i love them dearly for it
I'm super thankful to this video because I found this when this vid 4 days after it was uploaded, and it made me binge-watch the whole anime in one sitting. I'm still very much obsessed with them right now, and is reading the manga lol. They hit every joke perfectly and the couples had the enough chemistry. It even made me watch Ouran in hopes of getting the same vibe lmao Now, though they each have their irreplicable charm, I'm both addicted to them especially Mikoshiba and Tamaki 😂😂. I truly wish they made a 2nd season for GSNK because even if the manga is funny, the anime just takes it next level with the pacing, voice acting and music. Speaking of, the OP freakin' slaps! Thank you for introducing me to this anime!
I Love this Anime because all the characters acted like the main characters (like Horimiya) We Got * A Secret Shoujo Author Who Never Felt Love & Emotions with His Life * A Short girl who fell in love with the Author and became his assistant * A Background Artist who is a Charmer but in reality he is an Otaku and Shy and also became the main inspiration of the Shoujo * A Athletic Basketball Player Menace who is an Amazing Opera Singer * A Tomboyish Prince Like Girl who makes every girl become lesbians * The Head of the Drama Club who has to Deal with the Toboyish Prince Girl's Problems * A Guy Who Fell in Love with the Menace so much that he fell asleep every time he heard her Sing Although all very different they really have great chemistry and a great story together
the manga is even better than the anime! i definitely recommend it if you loved the anime, it gives you more character development without taking away any humor and the romance is actually getting somewhere (not sure where, but it’s going somewhere)
I LOVE NOZAKI KUN! so glad to see more people know how cool it is😂 I recommend you a web comic called "A martial master wakes up as a concubine", is also a romcom but with more drama and action stuff. I've been laughing almost every chapter, maybe you could give it a try!❤
can we talk about the episode about nozaki and mikoshiba playing a dating game, ending up disappointed in all the girls, and then drawing an entire doujinshi about the mc and his best friend falling in love? i cant with this anime also mikorin is babygirl
There's a video about how satire can be made from either an appreciative perspective or a dismissive perspective, where you're either breaking down the concepts of the genre to mock it or to explore it. I think Monthly Girls is a genuine affectionate deconstruction-and-reconstruction of the genre, which is why it works.
The sudden Persona 5 at the end gave me a fright. Like I sudden woke up to cold water after falling asleep at an unknown time trying to pull an all-nighter grinding PS5 and having no idea what happened or where I am XD
I agree to totally recommend this anime. I'm not sure to recommend it when someone asks me for a romance anime because all you said. But next time I'll let them know it's a great rom-com ❤
Look, you’ve absolutely convinced me solely by mentioning love is war, but first I need to build up trauma so that I need a comfort anime, so I’m gonna go watch madoka magica first
