I think this is the most that CCM has revealed to a RU-vid channel. Great job, and fantastic video! Hard to believe it was just a few years ago that you were doing how-to videos for simple ice skating skills. Incredible how far you've come along!
There is very few hockey equipment made in china, if any at all. Anything thats not made in Canada or the US is made in other Asian countries, most hockey stuff made in china is off brand
I was out of the loop for a bit and now getting back into hockey, and I find the new designs of skates look like something that fell off a motocross dirtbike
I think the body language of the CCM rep portrayed himself in a worst possible way to represent a very very well known hockey brand. First, he had mentioned theres a lot of “human” labor involved, he said it as if it was a bad thing. IT SHOULD BE A GOOD THING! More work, learning experience, opportunities & ideas & most importantly, more income for both, BRAND & EMPLOYEE! And for the “mass produced public skates” WE ALL KNOW you do get what you paid for unfortunately . You should’ve stopped yourself speaking more about that topic. Getting them out at a “fast possible rate” sounds like to me, do it quick, get it done cheap?, maybe less attention to detail? I play high level of roller & ice hockey & soccer. I usually get the best pair when I can and I get the skates & cleats fully torn down and rebuilt right back up to my specs from my good “mom & pop” shop. Nothing like the best “professional athlete / customer” care you can get!
You don’t have to be an NHL player to order customs. It’s a little more expensive than retail but they do a full 3D foot scan and build a mold of your foot then build a boot based off of your specs.
or her job... I just got my skates sharpened by this girl who acted like she hated her life. She had the enthusiasm of a wet noodle and responded to all my questions with "I don't know". I hate when people who don't have a passion or knowledge for hockey work around hockey. Like go work at Starbucks, geez
This is the same guy that did a bunch of videos for the CCM product guides in the CCM Specialists app for employees of hockey stores such as myself. Recognized the voice right away. I have a similar shirt to his as well.
People that cant afford this fancy stuff if u get ur skates heat treated to your feet they are like a custom fit. Most skates these days can have this done. Graf was the innovator on that. Their skates were always famous for being able to mold to up to 5 diff feet per skate with heat molding. So they could be passed down through generations so they were worth the 800$ or so u spent. Obviously not 5 diff feet at once but can be re molded
This video was very informative. I learned alot of new things that I never knew before. Awesome video. Idk if I'm a subscriber, but I am now one for sure. Keep up the amazing work
How does a foam mold for a custom skate not melt when high pressure heat molding takes place? Seems like they were using a metal foot mold to shape boot. I highly doubt ccm would make a metal mold of your foot. If they did, customs would be way more.
I got a pair of ccm ribcor 78k and the box says to bake at 220F for 2 minutes maximum but the guy at the shop says he bakes them longer, will that be bad for the skates?
So if I go to my local hockey shop and order a custom pair of Jetspeeds or Super Tacks etc, are they made in Canada or China? I have a pair of the top tier 2015 JetSpeeds which are great, but don’t completely fit my feet correctly even after getting them baked. Now these off the rack even being the top tier are made in China. I have an odd shaped feet and was looking at getting a new pair of skates especially since the 2015 Jetsepeeds have taken a beating. Also now I’m getting older I was looking at playing less ie from moving from the 3-4 beer leagues I’m in and getting certified as a referee. The play in 1 or 2 leagues at the very most and ref the other days I’m not playing to create another source of income and spend less for league fees and broken equipment especially sticks. I go through 15-20 sticks in a year. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to break them in the 30 day window! I really only buy my twigs from Pro Stock Hockey because you are getting pro level sticks at like 50-60% off retail. So long story I can live in off the shelf skates, but if the customs are made in Canada I’ll probably end buying custom skates because using them as a referee I can claim them as a tax deduction in the US and they are only $200 more at the end of the day if you are buying the top tier skate anyway plus I can only imagine the comfort level having the skates made to your feet, but I’ll stick to off the rack if the customs are still made in China.
MaximRecoil Take a look at Graf out of London, Ont. Vaughn bought maunfacturing rights and are currently building custom (from tracing) 703s. Looks like kangaroo to me.
Do you have a video up on shot blockers for your skates? I’m looking for some for my CCM 50k’s but having a hard time due to the lace locks and the pump. Any recommendations? Thanks.
Fascinating. What did this make you think in terms of the future of hockey skates? Will it be updated or stay the same based on your interactions with CCM? Thanks for diving into this, really valuable.
Chris, i've seen several product managers, (skates, sticks, protective etc) from various hockey manufacturers change over a short period of time. Long story short, i love the presentation that JS always gives, i don't want him to be fired xD [he's rly gud]
Fortunately, Graf has been back in business for over a year out of London, Ont. Just ordered custom 703s. Take a look at their Instagram, Facebook or website.
a S To each their own. I used to wear Bauer but found Graf to be a more comfy and durable skate. I'm also very staunch on buying Canadian as much as possible. Just milked 14 years as an official out of my 707s. I'm assuming I could buy custom Bauers but I have a feeling I would need to have a pro team affiliation.
Do they have plans to bring the foot scanning tech to retail stores? I think I've got the wrong sized skates but I keep getting different sizes between trying in store, measuring foot length wdth etc.
Last time I was on Ice was age 33 and now I am 55. At age 33 my hockey skates were CCM Tacks 652, the boot fit well, but I did not like the blades at all. The blades made me feel like I was skating on sand. The best blades I had before my CCM tacks were my Lange skates, the metal on these skates allowed me to skate really fast. Today at age 55 I am using my Pinnacle InLine Speed Skates with 110 mm wheels and with these skates I managed to get up to 24 mph on a flat surface. I like to go fast, therefore I hope the metal blades on these current CCM Tacks are better than what I had before.
I've been interested in custom skates but have heard the True Custom Skate is about a $600 skate in terms of materials that costs $1000. So I'm kinda waiting for CCM or Bauer to start doing this for the mass market.
Jackson Barrett, my LHS told me back in January that CCM was going to provide them with the 3D scanning machine that allows them to take the accurate shape of your foot some time in 2019.It will only cost an extra $100 more than the full retail price for a regular price top of the line skate for a custom fitting skate.
