The most ridiculous part has to be the fact that neither school nor police ever bothered to inform his parents. I was somewhat of a problem child myself in that regard, mostly due to having issues with authority figures aka teachers, and my school basically had my parents on speed dial for the most minor of offenses or rule breaking.

They had no idea he would become something much worse, a HOI4 player.

Schools can't handle bullying. I was severely bullied, and every time *I* was the one who was punished for being beat up, insulted, harrased... My life made miserable for 3 years straight. And every time, i would listen to the teachers, telling me that hitting is wrong, that violence is wrong, all that. Until i got beat up in the middle of the dining hall, with teachers just looking, doing nothing. There is only one way to handle bullying: Standing up for yourself. Hard. Laying down, being the better man is only going to make it worse. And it made it so much worse for me. It's literally the meme, _'Violence isn't the answer. It's the question and the answer is yes'._ It doesn't matter if you win. Hell, you'll probably lose, but what matters is that they see that you don't care, and you tried to win. And i sincerely believe that kids being taught to not fight back is one of the primary causes of these kinds of domestic attacks. Because they're taught that being helpless is the right thing to do, and that fighting back only gets them more hurt. Kids are taught that they need to be vulnerable, or else. That needs to change.

We had a female police Office visit Our school after the Shootings. She Was a Mom of a classmate of mine. He was an Idiot. So was his Mom. She said playing Shooter games makes you aggressiv and told us How to React when Shootings Happen. And then we had a discussions which games are Bad for you. I cringed so Hard. She Was so dumb. No evidence whatsoever just opinion and everybody just believed it. Kinda weird that that motivated me to study videogames in university

They never told your parents because it's illegal as hell to interview a kid without their parents or lawyer being with them

All school shootings are loud suicides. These people would never care if some kid just hangs himself at home. The shooter in Erfurt forged a doctor's note that he was sick (when he wasn't) so that his missed classes would be excused. When that came out they kicked him out of school (although that wasn't necessary) only WEEKS before final exams. Because of some stupid laws he couldn't re-do the exams and essentially wasted like 13 years of his school life. A life destroyed. Just because of bureaucracy and dumb people that don't understand what working with teenagers means. Guy even met a teacher in the hallways who said "you can shoot me now" but he refused then the teacher offered to listen to him and he accepted, that's when the teacher pushed him into a room and locked it, and only after that the guy shot himself. Guy needed an open ear, a hug, and a way to move on in life, not dumbed down adults who judge him for being human. To this day nobody cares and stuff like this will happen again and again and again until a majority understands what's going on.

Srsly the way schools handled bullying was such a joke. My school thought it was a good idea to force a class to openly discuss their internal issues with not teacher present. Two kids ended up in hospital, it was lord of the flies but in a classroom. Also had a clinically insane teacher who hallucinated on a daily basis. She saw fires everywhere. Funnily enough her career ended when she burned the exams she was supposed to hand out. Wild times, there had been complaints about her for decades but it took this to finally send her to psych ward. Oh and one kid drew comics in the boys washroom. With a "poop sharpy". Everyone knew who it was but apparently no one wanted to deal with it. The drawings only stopped when he graduated. So he still drew poop comics at 19.

10/10 people that play a game of historical Germany in Hoi are a potential risk to society - of course, you are on a watch list.

Tommy I have literally done the training for US school teachers about how to handle potential warning signs for school shooters. Drawing, writing, or saying things like *exactly what you wrote* legally requires teachers here to inform a counselor and school administration. You don't even leave the kid alone after you see that, literally you are supposed to call for another teacher or counselor, not allow the student to leave the room, and probably search their bag once another faculty member arrives in case they already have a firearm. Your school acted differently, but I totally get why that happened. You might know you're fine, but they don't know you are. I think they should have told your parents what was happening, but a big part of the problem the US has with school shooters is that people think "no way, they wouldn't do that, I know this kid" and the red flags get ignored over and over. It seems like every time someone in the US shoots up a school, half the articles written mention that local police or the school had been tipped off but didn't follow up, or parents knew something but didn't think their kid was capable of shooting people, or teachers saw something concerning but hesitated to do something that might ruin a kid's life if they happened to be wrong. Your school was not in the mood to be lenient, especially after another shooting. I think that's the right attitude. Better to blacken one kid's reputation or scare them for a few days than to have several corpses, ruined futures, and shattered families to attempt to clean up.

Tommy, i lived near Hannover, i had the same talks, gladly not in the local newspaper, because i wore a slayer t-shirt (also of course out of the EMP catalogue) and i was the quiet kid in class. They where so fucking nervous back than and didnt understand the key problems in such situations ... they asked if i played specific games at home, what music i heard and if my father has weapons at home etc ... and even that we had no weapons at home (they where in the local shooting club ... air rifles, i was also into that ... fuck me) they searched my room.

Robert Steinhäuser ran into the teacher on the killing spree and the teacher said after talking to him, trying to calm him down, "you can shoot me now, too." Steinhäuser said "No, that's enough for today." and the teacher managed to bring him into a room close by, ran back out and locked Steinhäuser in. A few minutes later, Steinhäuser shot himself there. The ironic part of it was, the shooting caused the school system to be changed in the state (Thüringen), so that students, who fail the exams don't leave school without graduating at all (Steinhäusers reason most likely), continuing their life with nothing. Now afterwards, students get their last passed graduation automatically, like it is in every other German state. The teacher was later investigated, because of him talking to Steinhäuser, because "that's what an accomplice would do". They only dropped the investigation after the teacher said in public, he will kill himself if this nonsense would actually go somewhere. A bizarre case on many levels and mostly caused by the state.

When I was a child, I never knew why my brother's bullies never messed with me. Turns out, when you're an edgy quiet kid who only reads books and draws guns alongside anarchy symbols and hammer/sickles, rumors spread that you're a school shooter. Never got in trouble with teachers for it due to good grades and behaviour, but it did give me a reputation.

Hey, I am a german police officer. Here's my conclusion why the police didn't offer any help in the form of a psychiatrist or lawyer and didn't inform your parents. After the school reported their suspicion against you, they had to do SOMETHING. After Erfurt they had to act and couldn't just tell the teacher/ school: "Are you fucking serious?". They didn't have any serious suspicion against you so they didn't open a criminal case. Just talked to you so the teacher and school were satisfied and had the feeling of protection. We have to talk quiet often with cringy kids who said weird stuff.

I was brought to guidance one day in my American high school. Every counselor and the psychologist were waiting for me in a room. They thought I was going to be a school shooter because of a creative writing assignment. In the assignment you write 1 line and pass it to the next person, and the next person continues the story. Me and my 2 friends took this opportunity to twist a story about a girl into making her depressed and suicidal. We were edgy teenagers so we thought it was funny (I still think it's funny). When I realized what they were calling me in for I asked, "What the f- do you think? That we're gonna shoot up the school?" And one of them went, "Are you?" And I started yelling "OF COURSE NOT YOU F****** IDIOT. WHY THE F*** WOULD I DO THAT!?" And I just cursed them out until they let us out.
