How I got unstuck in my 50s 

This is the sort of content most viewers are crying out for; original, artistic, honest, but still simple. Not, overselling, stock footage, buy my product or else, “believe what I say or else”! So thank you for making your videos.

I like how your videos feel like a deep and meaningful conversation with a friend. That's so different than most of the videos out there.

My life path led me to live alone, after a few relationships that did me more harm than good. Over the last 13 years I've learned this and I'm finally happy. No more compromises, no more secrets and free in my decisions - simply wonderful

Beautiful share of self-acceptance and self-kindness without external pressures (and programming) we put on ourselves. Some of our personal growth is certainly smoother than others. 🙂 And shadow work can feel so scary... but it absolutely liberates us... and isn't usually as scary as we think. It is often this simple: We get triggered, then we usually avoid the feeling. BUT we need to do the exact opposite. Sit with the FEELING (not the story around it, not the memory, not the meaning or interpretation of it), just make ourselves feel the feeling... cry or scream or whatever comes up, it reaches a peak feeling, and then it drops -- surprisingly quickly. BOOM. We just healed some of the pain! The NOT feeling all of it at the time is what locked it up and allowed us to be triggered later. Triggers are opportunities for us to heal. This simple technique has changed my life. 💜

I so appreciate your honesty about vulnerable topics. ❤Having ADHD and a genetic predisposition to depression has caused similar crises many times in my life. I'm profoundly grateful for the introspective nature and innate interest in self-growth that have helped me learn from such setbacks. Those are gifts not everyone has naturally, and I see them in you, Cecelia, and Nathaniel. A lovely family legacy!

You have a wonderfully eloquent way of sharing your life experiences. Sharing your humanity confirms for me that we are all more alike than different, that we are not as unique as we perceive ourselves to be. I find comfort in that.

My parents just refuse to 'grow up', are unwilling to do the emotional work (introspection, reflection, questioning, etc.) and thus I have decided to cut off all ties with them since their presence would just drain me emotionally and mentally. Your video resonated deeply with me. It made me understand the feelings I had eight years ago when I lost my v stressful and high power job after a restructure. I’d worked since I was 18 in various office jobs and, being a bit of a perfectionist, always put 110% into whatever I was doing. Your video helped me to understand that what happened left me with a loss of identity and it dented my ego. I was 64 … what would I do? It took me a while to let go of that feeling of loss. Thankfully, I had saved for all those years and have been able to travel, to take up art after its absence in my life for a long while, to reconnect with people and to make new friends. It took me about 3 years before I was comfortable being “retired”. Thanks again for putting what I was feeling into words.😎

Your videos are so motivating for me! I'm currently on a trip to Spain, my first time ever to Europe, as my family and I are considering moving here. I've had lots of uncomfortable moments, wondering if I can really do this, but you're right--there's a lot to learn and overcome by facing discomfort. I need to keep remembering this.

Just saw your video about Portugal a year ago, and went on your channel to know if you had found a place… I was about to tell you to try the other European countries around the Mediterranean because we share the villages style and way of life with others. It s challenging in my country, and now yours with the weather. I hope you re safe. You ll know how the community around you can be be supportive though in hardships like natural disasters (I live myself in a rural area). Your story makes me think of « Eat, Pray, Love ». I hope you re on the other side of this journey and will just enjoy the little things while wandering a local market on a sunny morning . Stay safe, you and your family… and have a great life in my country, as imperfect as it is. :)

Thx for being so open, honest and vulnerable. I love how you say that one should dance with their fears rather than run away from them. Don't be too hard on yourself about your past though. Your crisis point also came at a pivotal midlife point, where we have so many hormonal changes happening, it's almost like a second puberty and can really mess with our abilities. I did a video the other day on the male menopause, it's a real thing and can temporarily affect men the same as it affects women. I love your positive and beautifully shot videos. It shows that midlife is an amazing time, full of adventures and possibilities. It's not about having a midlife crisis but rather continuing to grow. And if you have the most amazing life partner on your side (like you do, your wife is awesome) personal growth is even bigger and better ❤

I appreciate the honesty. I'm in that "stuck" mode currently - in between therapists - and wallowing in thick pity party. It’s so wonderful to see your transparency, Josh. We have been talking off and on for a while now, as we are both Portlander’s making a new life in France. Two weeks ago, I launched a free ten-week program on Insta about finding joy, and spending the next few weeks into 2024 feeling more center, happy, and focused. Thank you for your honesty, it’s appreciated. My husband and I are about to take a big step outside of our comfort zone. We will be closing on a property in France next month. This is scary at ages 67 and 70 but, it’s also a chance for personal growth. We know that there will be challenges ahead, some positive, some negative, it’s all part of growing. I appreciate your honesty. I didn’t grow up learning how to sit with pain and discomfort. It’s a relatively new concept for me. I had a similar experience in 2018 that shook me, and I’ve heard from others that this happened to them, around the same time, as well. It seems like a collective consciousness thing, if you believe in that. I do. Anyway, so happy to finally face my own bs. Would be interested in what books inspire you and your wife. ☮️

Well my friend as I sit here in Brittany ( for my second life in France ) ( came for 9 yrs went back to uk for 6 and now been back in France for 7 ) by my log burner sipping a glass of wonderful red and listening to your very brave and honest thoughts I can totally see your journey , I am a little older and a little bit further down the track at 61 ,, I am convinced now that what you are describing is what most Men of a certain bent go through and I am going to simplify what has happened to you , me and I have no doubt to countless other Men ,, it’s called “ Growing up “ some men mature ,some men never do and for some of us it happens late on in life as we have lived incredible lives stayed very young at heart and it is a bit of a shock , it’s another challenge ,, but there is light at the end of the proverbial , and when it becomes bright this light is the brightest of our crazy lives , enjoy being you now you deserve it . I am so happy to hear that I and my husband are not alone in feeling this way. I do still have ‘friends’ but I can only spend short periods of time with them. My husband is also my best friend. We did meet some neighbors a few years ago that lived a couple of houses down from us. They were a French and Dutch couple. We became the kind of deep friends you talk about. The friendship was easy and the discussions over meals was meaningful, deep but also had a lightness and ease about them. Unfortunately when they retired they moved to France. We are in contact daily through FB and What’s App but it’s not the same of course. I wonder if you will find more people, now that you are in France, that are interested in the very special type of friendship you talk about. When one does find such friends it is truly a wonderful gift! PS I also enjoy your son’s channel👍

Thank you for openly discussing your feelings and experiences. Talking about your vulnerabilities has only helped to make you stronger. It’s really a beautiful example. I think most of us like to stay inside our comfort zones. But that’s not where the personal growth happens. I really think most people seek comfort and the path of least resistance. But that’s not always very fulfilling. And let’s face it, the older we get the more settled we can become. It really takes a concerted effort to do what you are doing. Your videos inspire me. Your honesty encourages me to do the same. We only get “one go around” at this. It’s important to get honest with ourselves and others, speak our truth and follow what our heart is telling us. Life is too short to live any other way.

So real…..so refreshing ! You and your wife ARE a dream team ! Great job !!!!🎉

Wow. Lovely overhead scenes of your new landscape + it's good you have a new home you love + your whole family seems to have a facility for learning languages so you'll be chatting away like a native if not already. I want to apologize for a couple of snarky comments I've put on previous videos of you'd even noticed. I don't like being mean spirited and I'm not. Except when I am I guess. This one really spoke to me. I've just had a very similar experience! No,I havent been making videos in South America. Did your son do a talk about the same film trip + said how stressful it turned out to be but educational too. Blimey even your "failures" would be "success level" for a lot of people. I just gave up a long term thing I was involved in due to less physical strength + some other external factors but I was harbouring a secret rancour that THEY took it away from me. Who THEY are I don't know,maybe The Fates. But Ive realised that similar to what you said,the sheer busy-ness made me feel "relevant" not sure if that's the right word. But I've decided that as I didnt ask to be born or to have the life that fate has doled out to me -Amor Fati- I don't have to justify my life by busy activity. So I'm not,right now at least. So this video really talked about a situation I am in with totally different circumstances but essentially same thing. So,thank you for being brave enough to talk about it.
