I think an underrated thing about zoom lenses (especially on s35) is that people wouldn't rely so much on bokeh to compose or make things look cinematic. Your footage is beautiful and looks like it's taken straight out of a film, yet the depth of field is deeper than almost every "cinematic short film" on youtube.

i totally agree

The 35-150 f/2-2.8 from Tamron is HIGHLY underrated for this very reason. That's a ridiculously good range at a wide enough aperture on full frame that you really don't need anything else if you're doing run and gun stuff.
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY 9 месяцев назад
I'm sure it's a good lens, but seems to be more for photo tasks. How comfortable is it for focus work?
@spdcrzy
@spdcrzy 9 месяцев назад
@@ANDBERY It's almost entirely free of focus breathing AND nearly parfocal, for one thing. Combined with a body that allows for focus breathing compensation, I'd argue it's right up there with a lot of good cine glass. It seems to be a very common photo lens for wedding photogs, but I feel it's being underused in that kind of environment. Sadly, there are no hard stops on either the focus or zoom motors, but both of them can be set to either linear or nonlinear, which is really cool. So if you were to attach focus and zoom motors to it for a cine package, it probably would do the job quite well - especially considering how good Sony autofocus is these days. And I don't just mean snappy and sticky, I mean GOOD as in you can ramp the focusing speed down to be more cinematic. Which is VERY nice.

@@spdcrzyit would be awesome if they took that same lens, stripped the electronics and put it into a cinema housing. I think that would hit a whole new market of customers.
@spdcrzy
@spdcrzy 8 месяцев назад
@@davidmorefield agreed. And give it OSS. Yes, the lens would be bigger and heavier, but for f/2-2.8?! God, it would be amazing.

My entire flow changed when I put my full frame primes down for my S1 and acquired the Rokinon 10mm f2.8 and the DZO 20-55 f2.8. Perfect combo equivalent to 15mm & 30-82.5mm parfocal zoom.

Unfortunately zoom lenses are really under the radar (mostly here on RU-vid) cause everyone thinks that you must use a prime lens at T1.5 to make everything "cinematic". Zoom lenses are widely used by many renowned cinematographer. Not only it saves times, you can also try different compositions and create unique effects like you showed. The only thing you missed talking about is the "vertigo effect" that you can only do with a zoom lense (and a dolly of course). This effect is commonly used nowadays in music videos but sometimes you can still see it in a movie. How did you find the Tango? Do they worth the price? They looks super heavy!
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY 9 месяцев назад
Thanks my friend. Could you share an example of the vid with "vertigo effect"? Sounds intriguing.
@Meatyowlleg
@Meatyowlleg 9 месяцев назад
Well good zoom lenses are often too big and heavy like angenieux, while cheaper one like sigma 24-70,18-35 are too sharp and lacking character.
@Meatyowlleg
@Meatyowlleg 9 месяцев назад
@@ANDBERY Also called dolly zoom, like the shots from Vertigo, La hain, Raging Bull, Jaws.
@ChuckRiseUp
@ChuckRiseUp 9 месяцев назад
@@ANDBERY the real term is a dolly zoom but old school guys like me still call it the Vertigo effect cause Hitchcock was the first to use this technique. Here's a exemple: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g7UEWCnoslA.html

Anyway. The Tango came to me as part of a partnership, so I didn't purchase this lens. However, I'm planning to invest in the 65-280 Tango in the future. It's a versatile investment that I can rent out it or use in various commercial projects. It's heavy for the mount, you need a telephoto lens support. But for handheld shooting it has a democratic weight of 3 kg.

What are your slow shutter settings on the komodo? Been trying this effect but can't get it quit right. Shutter isn't slow enough
@ANDBERY
@ANDBERY 9 месяцев назад
Hey man, I don't know exactly how we did it. But the thing is that you have to lengthen the shutter at the same time, reducing fps to 5-8.
