Honestly, I think the couple of stories where she showed up before lb6 (Little tengu and The idol event) gave mebd a much needed Spotlight to show the right writing direction before her peak in lb6
The idol event of all things is a good showcase of Medb's positive aspects, I think. There is a scene where the women of Connacht watch CuChulainn drive by and Medb is eager to see the man and thinks he is hot: "No man in Medb's army escaped without some kind of wound, nut CuChulainn remained untouched. The next morning CuChulainn rose up from his camp and put on his best clothing to display himself to the women of Connacht among the army. The day before he had seemed a monster in his spasm, but now he was the handsomest in Ireland, with loose-flowing golden hair spreading over his shoulders. The women climbed on top of their own husbands to catch a glimpse of CuChulainn as he rode past their camp in his chariot. 'This is a nuisance,' said Medb. 'The women are crowding so close that I can't even see this man.' Then she climbed onto the backs of her own men to see CuChulainn and awed by his beauty." - quoted after: The Ulster Cycle, Phillip Freeman abridged translation (2017, pgs. 85-86) I guess the Fate interpretation took that as the core and put special emphasis on it.
I think the reason why the Rider version is more of a S goddess is that how her spirit code/saint graph draw from as in what represent or mytho about the character the most. Like how gil caster is drawn on the aspect he being a wise king in his later year while archer is in his youth as a demigod, same for caster cthu draw on the time he study the rune while lancer is in his final stand
I suspect that the whole thing about Cu-Chulainn rejecting Medb is referencing Cu's rejection of the goddess Morrigan. Morrigan is also a ferocious warrior and a seductress, now that I think about it, almost every woman in celtic mythology is some form of badass warrior seducer
Great video. I remember there was a light novel spin-off about a bunch of mystery stories. One of them was about Medb and Gudako being stuck in a singularity with amnesia. This was the short story that made me really appreciate Medb as in this story, we really see how Medb acts in a serious situation where she can’t mess around like she usually does.
this is bascially another Roloand where the writers find something funny about the character about the character and makes everything about that one funny thing . Like Medb had sex ALOT but there is slighty more to the figure than that .

To be honest, Medb might be the one character I actually want a different Class version of. In some stories, she was actually somewhat capable swordfighter herself. There's an easy version right there or they could go ham and make her a Ruler and play up the fact she was fairly dangerous as a leader. Play up the Ruler bit.
Clan calatin is also used in fate strange fake where alexandre dumas makes forgeries of magical weapons (one of them with the hydra poison) for a police chief that uses a police force he calls clan calatin
Excellent video, Yurie: I will admit that I've never really cared much for Medb, but this video did shed a lot of light on her. I mean my favorite Rider is still Quetzaquatl, but that's a story for another day
Medb is an acquired taste, for sure. As for Quetz, I am still pondering whether or not I should do her together with Kukulkan when LB7 comes out, or to do them separately.
And they say that reverse harems don't exist outside of anime... our ancestors did really know that spice to life is to collect as many wife's and husbands as possible or failing that bonk them at least twice maybe thrice. In modern day we keep that spirit alive by just collecting our husbandos and waifus with the bonus of not having to fear for our lives, we are doing our ancestors so proud.
Medb won't be the only servant I cover who has involvement in a "reverse harem". My knowledge of Indian Mythology is pretty weak, but I'm pretty sure that there's a woman there who has five husbands, one of whom is some guy named Arjuna.

I always thought Cu being unaffected by the curse is more to do with him not being an adult 'man' so inelligible for the curse It is a funnier alternative to than just not being Ulsterite Great video though!
Amazing analysis. I am sad that you didn't include events since by far, her Grail Live version which is in my opinion her best version in the game showing her charisma, cunning and wisdom plus some more. Still thank you for analyzing her, she is one of my favorite characters in the series!
Thanks! I fussed over that one a bit. I knew it wasn't "Cu Culainn" (two words) like its often said in the anime dubs, but there was a question over whether or not it was "Cuhullan" (How I said it in the video) or "Cu Cullan" (two words). Information told me that the latter was a common misconception, so I went with "Cuhullan" as said in the final video. Glad to know it was right! :D
LB Medb having good writing reminds me of that bad mystery event where Stheno had good writing. In that they had the character's face and weren't actually the one we know.
Considering the fact that Medb and Conchobar did not have a very good relationship, I wonder why the fuck does she have 'Conchobar, My Love' as her third Noble Phantasm. Im never one to say no when a charakter wants to give us some eye candy. But as awlays thers a time and place fore that. Now I dont mind it with Medb as much as I did with Boudica, cause there it just was tastless, I do think her Lost Belt 6 outfit is by far the best and I hope we either get Noc Nah Ribh as her own Servant ore atleast as a costume anytime soon
I'm disapointed you missed how Fat/e Medb is kind of merged with The Morrigan. Also if you look closer she's more contempary with The New Testament then Caesar, Caesar was contempary with her father.
The only real link between Fate Medb and Morrigan I can see is that Cu spurned Morrigan. In any case, a potential link between Fate Medb and Morrigan is never made clear. You are right to a degree. It is said Cu Chulainn died in 1 CE - a deliberate choice made by the medieval writers who wanted to have this story occur during the NT. I chose to mention Caesar and Cleopatra since, unlike Jesus or Augustus, they are actually in Fate. It is also why I say that the Ulster cycle takes place "*roughly* during the time of Caesar and Cleopatra" - emphasis on "roughly".
So the tribes in that scenes of photos as the video explained are celtics/Irish in 1st centuries. While the others are saxons,danes,anglo and normans. I watched your past video about each character.
Getting pictures for this video was pretty difficult. I actually had to swap one picture out at the last minute because I noticed it was actually meant to be Boudica rather than Medb.
