I never imagined double glazing being even mentioned in a conversation over a building, it’s a current practice in Europe, where the question is over to have a third glazing and having argon gas in between layers.

if there could be a focus on the systems that they talk about it would be so helpful to incorporate these ideas into our projects or atleast understand the concepts to make cool ideas work. So I was interested to see how the indoor air is collected and the fresh air is pumped into the bedrooms in a sustainable way. Seems really cool to understand these ideas.

Sounds like these houses were built based on passivhaus standards. Generally old Melbourne properties are poorly insulated and extremely uncomfortable to live in. Can totally relate rushing to switch on the heater during those cold wintry mornings. And losing all the heat almost instantly through thermal bridging after switching off the heater. Although I can't agree that the low $1M ish price point is anywhere near being affordable, suggesting otherwise would just be tone deaf. Reckon a better/ "radical" idea would be for these beautifully designed passive houses to be made available via the social and public housing stock as done in Finland and Vienna. Of course Melbourne is far way from that when our properties are deemed as a lucrative investment rather than a human right.

The selection of finish material is perfection! I LOVE the black & timber scheme! I paused the section showing kitchen, will use this as an inspiration for my own kitchen. I live in S. California, could you give me the manufacturer of the windows used?

This video is a bit all over the place, bad audio mix and same shots of a woman opening windows over and over again. This said, I love everything about the house. Well, apart from the mirror backslash. That trend needs to die. But the rest is lovely. Great space and great details.

Interesting building, however you mention that it is airtight for sustainability reasons but there are many shots of the windows open or being opened. I thought those whole point of an air tight building is to manage the air flow without the need to open windows.

Airtight is very important to reduce heating and cooling costs but it doesn't require people to never open windows. Getting a cross breeze on a mild day is delightful, isn't it.

On the contrary it allows people to decide when they want air to come in rather than having a constant draught

@@lsamoa If you have a perfectly managed environment inside the house, why would you want new air to come in through a window? If the system is working properly that situation should rarely if ever arise. Why would you pay a lot of money to have a controlled environment and then override it? It's a bit like car manufacturers advertising superb airconditioning in a car and then showing a video of drivers with the windows rolled down.

I like brian klopers architecture also hassan fathy this seems like heading towards towards their brief on ecological envionmental ergonomics but falls short on telling us that it is. It say it fits the clients astetic but what are his or her needs and that of their community.

@@SimpleDwelling Hard to say! I've always enjoyed living in bright spaces previously, but the dark walls blend so beautifully with the wood that I might lean toward that right now... That said, tomorrow I might think differently ;)

Still don't see how $1.2 million is considered accessible to a professional couple! with a 10% deposit $120,000 savings rarely achievable unless wealthy parents to give the let up! However, good to see some Eco ideas form Europe finally (double glazing is so 1970s!!!!) getting traction... sustainable - mmm way better than 90% of Australian homes - Affordable - no!

Thanks for the feedback. I still fundamentally believe in seeing the architect behind the homes, so there will continue to be shots of them but I'll ensure to get more shots of the home in future post-COVID-19-lockdown videos.

HRV and triple glazing are required in Canada now; our houses are technically advanced but shamefully ugly.

It can be a bit frustrating to hear $1.5m as "affordable" but remember it's a 3-bedroom home in inner-Melbourne with incredible sustainability credentials, and some things such as the smart-tapware. I don't know if that helps but I can see why it's this much.
