I'm surprised that electric boilers aren't being promoted more by govts in response to climate change. We have a gas boiler and while it works fine for us I've always looked at it humming away and wondering if we should invest in an electrical boiler. But I'd be worried about cost and efficiency. Would it heat our home as good as our current gas boiler and would it lead to massive electric bills. Since these are basically giant kettles I'd be concerned by our electiic bill. Still, with home electric storage emerging like Tesla battery storage packs coupled with home solar panels an electric boiler could prove to be a much better option, both environmentally and economically.

Electric is going to cost more, by a lot. It's only really people with oil or LPG that might want to use this, or very small properties where the overheads of purchasing oil/lpg/towngas boilers might dig into it. Add to that its being pumped around which is losing some of your efficency (which is the same for gas/oil though) , might as well look at electric panels on the wall.
I would like to buy this product since I have roles on my home would be willing to buy it and have it shipped to the United States...is that possible and the unit above from the video does heat the hot water and home so it's like a combination unit...what is the normal price for this unit
I have just had my gas boiler condemed, so now need new boiler, only the old one sat in a cupbord floor standing cast iron boiler, I want the new boiler where the old one was situated, only we can't have a gas boiler there, has to go on outside wall, total agrovation of floorbourds up to fit,, but instead, I can have a electric one in the same place as old one,, any advice, is electric the way to go, or stick with gas

Looking on the website it says you save £75 on a gas certificate and has less maintenance but then go on to say that to run a house with 2 radiators (which house only has 2) it will cost £1500 for a year on the lowest amount of BTUs for a house......yeah that is nuts no flipping way would i convert to one that is stupidly expensive.
How many months do you need to run the central heating, my electric combi has separate elements for heat and instant hot water and my PV solar makes money when the heatings not needed.
The power put in is the power that comes out (of the boiler). Electric heating is 100% efficient. What you lose out on though is pumping it around the house - though a gas/oil boiler has to do this as well. Look at some charts and you will see GHSP quoted at 300-400% efficient.
99% Awesome, 1% ohh crap we have a power cut which regularly happens nowadays. But still cheaper, I'm running a 28kw gas boiler with 9 rads at 2\3kw. Change all rads to 1kw = 9kw your using. What a saving👍
Stuart Sinclair what on earth are you talking about? An electric boiler can't change the laws of physics. If you need 18kw of heat to maintain a comfortable temperature you can't just switch to a 9kw electric boiler and expect to be comfortable! Plus, electricity is the most expensive source of heat, typically three to four times the price of gas per unit.
Do you have power backup to run your gas boiler though? I know a lot of us handy people could probably wire up an inverter and battery to do so for a bit, but the cuts never really last that long. I've yet to come across someone that has a gas (electric) generator as a backup either.
Electric boilers? in the UK a kWh of electricity is at least 4 times more expensive than kWh of gas. For a house that costs £3,000 per year to heat I'll have to pay £12,000 per year with electric boiler. That's a loss of £9,000 per year if I shift from gas boiler to electric boiler. Are you guys insane? Until cost of electricity drops 4x to 5x there will be no compelling economic reason to use electric boilers.
sergey - what you say is correct, however there is a compelling reason if you install solar panels, and the current through the roof cost of Gas means your figures are out of date
@@beecee2205 solar panels is a separate story and it should be discussed separately. In terms of today gas prices happy to adjust annual loss from £9,000 to £5,000 for my example. It’s still a huge loss. Electric boilers will only become compelling when cost of gas will come near to the cost of electricity per kWh. Another possible solution is make cost of gas higher than the cost of electricity via government tax to discourage people to use it. Or invent tech to make electricity cost cheaper. Even with todays gas crisis there is no economic reason whatsoever to use electric boilers.
I agree, in the UK the cost of electricity is still about 4x that of gas, I have an electric boiler as no mains gas so I know about the running cost. As for power cuts, your gas boiler (electric controlled & pump) is still not going to work so that is no different.

Actually 100% efficiency is very low speaking about this type of engines...practically it means that the amount of electricity, that will be spended, will eventually convert to heat energy... But the key thing here is the fact that the quality of that energy is so much lower than the quality of the energy produced by gas...so in the end you will end up spending more...
I've wondered about this. We might not see Eco7/10 long term though. I guess you could heat your water tank and take that heat back out of it etc (in fact some people use their water as thermal stores even with oil/gas heating). Generally having electric rads on the wall would be more efficient than having to pump hot water around (then you can decide to use storage heaters or not).
Didn't the combi boiler replace the hot water tank because heating water with electricity was expensive? Your electric shower probably uses 8 K/Wh far more than anything else in your home!
