Electric cars plug into a charge point and take electricity from the grid. They store electricity in a rechargeable battery that powers an electric motor, which spins the wheels. Electric cars run faster than vehicles with conventional fuel engines - so they feel lighter to drive.
The electric motor receives energy from a controller, which controls the amount of power based on the driver's use of the accelerator pedal. Electric cars (also known as electric vehicles or EVs) use energy stored in their rechargeable batteries, which are recharged by common household electricity.
Main components of an Electric car:
1) Traction Battery Pack: An electric-vehicle battery (also known as a traction battery) is used to power an electric vehicle's motors. These batteries are usually rechargeable (secondary) and are usually lithium-ion batteries.
2) Power Inverter: An inverter converts DC electricity from sources such as batteries or fuel cells into AC electricity. Power can be at any required voltage; Specifically, it can operate AC equipment designed for mains operation or can be rectified to produce DC at the desired voltage.
3) Electric Motor: The DC motor works because, simply put, when a current is passed through the motor circuit, there is a reaction between the current in the field and the current in the armature, which causes the armature to turn. The armature and the field are connected in series, and the whole motor is referred to as a "series wound."
4) Controller: The controller's main function is to regulate electrical energy from batteries and inverters that will be distributed to electric motors. The main input to the controller is from the car's pedal. This pedal setting will determine the frequency variation or voltage variation that will enter the motor and, at the same time, determine the speed of the car.
5) DC/DC Converter: This is one of the electric car parts that convert high-voltage DC power from the traction battery pack to low-voltage DC power to drive the vehicle's accessories and recharge the auxiliary battery. Necessary for.
6) Charging port: The charge port allows the vehicle to be connected to an external power supply to charge the traction battery pack.

Two years have passed, and the technological advancement in electric vehicles (EVs) has been rapid. Some Chinese electric cars now boast a range exceeding 1000 kilometers, with fast-charging speeds reaching 80% capacity in just 15 minutes. Prices have become comparable to traditional fuel-powered cars, and, more importantly, there has been a significant increase in intelligent features.

The most informative explanation on EV. Greatly appreciated! A couple questions: 1. Why do we sometimes hear electric cars blow up? 2. What's the key technology in EV development? 3. What are obstacles ahead in the industry?
@JakovOmrcen
@JakovOmrcen 2 года назад
1. when battery is pierced there is no stopping it. The chemistry reacts to air and will start burning like hell. just run away. 2. Batteries lasting longer, giving more juice. Reducing costs. 3. Some of the parts used in batteries are being minded from the ground. Soon there will be shortage of materials and EV are going to switch to H powered mechanisms
@recon5107
@recon5107 2 года назад
@@JakovOmrcen I been Master mechanic for 30 years, Batteries today don't last longer, they last less longer than 10 year,s 20 years ago.... the quality has GOT worse..... not better... This is for electric and Gas cars, we sell MORE batteries than we ever did, 20 years ago, in cars a year old and less........ Batteries for Electric also cost thousands .......that does not reduce costs... Sensors , states, motors, etc in electric cars have HIGH maint, need to be recal all the damn time, which is NOT under most warranties, due to it being related to weather, debris.... So, people who THINK electric will be cheaper, have a rude awaken, and as I said in other posts, its a specialty, just like diagnosing , trouble shooting check engine lights, known as drivability.... something I done my entire career, and I meet 3 others like myself and worked with hundreds, so good luck finding a shop to repair, these, even in the future, due to the cost of tools, US mechanics have to PAY, and most won't and cant.....So, you will be forced to a dealer, and most of there mechanics won't either...Unless the SHOPS pays and MOST shops, don't pay for shit, they rely on US mechanics..... This is why the industry is dying, and has been for 30 years..... These shops will be all gone small business wise..... It will be only dealers and only a few of them.... that WILL be able to fix this stuff.... due to them PAYING shit and giving shit benefits.... Talk to any Master mechanic like myself who has been doing this along time, they will TELL you the same, this WILL cost the customer WAY MORE money at the end of the day....... and drive more mechanics from the industry... as it did when Computers, come into cars..I personally loved computers, and electric, but I know reality and cost and what it does to our bodies and how we are treated. So, the industry, and customers will pay the price, MARK my words.... Long waits....and more $$

I know all these business Proposals about an improvement is not or it's just another big business proposal for the big shot oligarchs and government to make billions of dollars.... They don't care about your safety or income if you can afford it... I prefer the old cars that I worked on I can replace carburetors, regulators, alternators, generators, brakes, radiators, tune-ups ect. And when the computers came around I said forget it man you got a go to the mechanic to do the job and turn off that check engine light and it's more expensive. How much blood can they squeeze off our arteries since they drain all our veins already and kill us with stress and anxiety..... This politicians and business people lie through the cracks of their teeth....

@@recon5107 ICE cars have loads more electric stuff sapping battery power now than they ever did, chance some pickups having 2 batteries. Not being sexist but there are a lot more women driving cars these days, just doing short local runs. In the UK we have a saying never buy a car previously owned by a health visitor or district nurse. The Tesla model S was launched over 10 years ago, with only an 8 year battery warranty! ICE engines are 20-25 percent efficient! Electric motors are 97-99percent!!! If you have 2 electric motors on the same axle you don't need a multi speed transmission or differential. Also with the OBDll port you have a very Good idea what's wrong.

I tried building an electric car in the 1980s, but the government regulations made it almost impossible to do so. I bought an old electric golf cart that ran on six 6 volt batteries. I also had an opportunity to buy a Pontiac Fiero with a blown engine for $100. With a curb weight of 2,500 pounds, I figured that I could strip it down to under 1,000 pounds by removing the engine, transmission, side windows, rear window, and all the interior. Or I could have used a Volkswagen Beetle at a stock curb weight of 1,800 pounds. But.......when I talked to the Washington department of licensing, they said it would be impossible to license it because it would have to pass the emissions test in Spokane. For it to pass emissions, it would have to "emit" fumes out the exhaust pipe. They said I could get it to pass if I installed a clean running gasoline engine, then I could switch it over to electric for 2 years, and then to pass emissions again, I would have to reinstall a gasoline engine. Stupid governmental regulations. You can't fight city hall. So, I put the golf cart motor in an old Kawasaki 750 and ran it on four 12 volt car batteries. I geared it for a top speed of 47 mph. I loved it, but the police hated it. Of course I couldn't get it licensed, and after a few tickets, I parked it, and switched to building electric bicycles using 12 volt blower motors from car heaters.

Some cons you did not mention. EV cars with decent range weigh a lot more than ICE. That means larger tires, suspension, brakes and other components. It also means more mass in motion in case of a crash. All that electricity must be generated. At this time most of that is with polluting power. Include that and EV's are not so green. Batteries require exotic materials. A malfunction of an EV is a big problem at this time. Service is costly and time consuming. This may be improved but it is not there yet. It is not possible at this time to have only EV's. I do agree that ICE cars will be diminished. The question is when not if. The question is if you want to lead the pack or wait and see.

So I have no dispute with what you’re saying, but this is not a static situation, and it’s not a situation that we can just bury a our head in the sand, so research and development dollars are being spent as we speak, so they’re going to be breakthroughs as there always is and standing in the way by taking a wait and see attitude is exactly what we should not be doing, and the fact that we’re not able to have everything we want at one time shouldn't be an obstacle either. So let's not forget that the gasoline powered internal combustion engine cars were not developed overnight, as it took time to build up the infrastructure and the supply chain necessary to support them and the Legacy auto manufacturers has to somehow manage and that’s not going to be an easy task. So it would not surprise me that some of these Legacy auto manufacturers we’ll be bankrupt within the next 5 years as the public demands more EV's and so the advantage will be to those start up companies, because they don't have the problems of the Legacy auto manufacturers and such an example would be Tesla, as they came in at a time that allowed them to have virtually no competitors to worry about and their vision to develop the vehicle using the most advanced technology that was not available 50 years ago and because they chose to structure the company the way they did by not using traditional advertisers and selling directly to the consumer, cutting out the middleman so to speak, and so these things have given start up companies like Tesla an enormous advantage over these Legacy auto manufacturers. So let's not forget that the internal combustion gasoline powered cars we're driving today took a long time to develop, particularly the infrastructure that support these vehicles, so hopefully the infrastructure to support EV’s more broadly will not take as long, but it will take some time as we saw Tesla make a decision early on to insure that wherever their cars are sold, that they had a supporting net worth of very fast DC chargers to keep their cars on the road, as well as providing the ability to charge at other third-party chargers and of course at home, and so I think these start up EV companies using Tesla as an example will have an enormous advantage over those Legacy auto manufacturers as they don't have to manage a fleet of internal combustion gasoline powered cars. The other problem that exist is with high gas prices are driving more people to move to EV’s over the ICE cars we’re drive today, so it took a long time to build up all that infrastructure to support these vehicles and there in lies the problem as each of the Legacy auto manufacturers face managing an aging supply chain of parts and suppliers that they still need, as well as the fuels, and the other thing that don’t get mention is the fuel refining capacity is a limiting factor as new capacity to refine these fuels is simply not going to be added as it hasn’t been added in decades and as the public begins to more fully understand the urgency to act in combating climate change and global warming issues, an electric vehicle becomes more desirable, however, having said that this is causing a problem and that there's no more capacity to refine gasoline as it takes years to put new capacity in place and it would make no sense to invest more dollars in an industry that will be dead by the end of the decade, and so those with your mindset of a wait and see attitude are considered dinosaurs and you know what happened to the dinosaurs, right? Cheers!🥂

Such devices are impractical to be installed on every ICE vehicle on the road. Hence, even if electricity is generated at coal /fossil fuel power plants, EVs are greener than ICE vehicles. Solar panel manufacturing also produce greenhouse gas emissions and toxins like hydrofluoric acid. Hydel projects emit lot of greenhouse gases from stored water, along with other environmental implications. So virtually no energy source for human use is "absolutely green".

You are mostly correct. Keep in mind that while it is true that generating electricity in conventional (non Green) power plants produces Greenhouse gases, proper design can decrease it with new technology, although it cannot totally eliminate it. At the generation point it is far simpler and less costly to reduce pollution than to do it in each vehicle. Therefore, there is still tremendous advantage to switching aways from petrol to electric cars. As we switch to Green Power generation (Wind, Solar, and Geothermal) then of course electric cars will make even more sense. Don't repeat Fossil Fuel Corporate propaganda, similar to what the Tobacco Industry was doing by lying about the dangers of tobacco smoking (Emphysema, Cancer, and lots of other problems made worse).

First time watcher,good one. Does the battery dissipate charge if kept idle for some days?
@TheEngineersPost
@TheEngineersPost 2 года назад
EVs can handle extended periods of inactivity very well. But a lot can depend on what condition your car battery is in. If your car battery is new and has been kept in good condition, it can probably sit unused for about two weeks before it goes flat.
