Awesome tips!!! I have a whole shelf that I plan to fill with succulents. I started with 3 but the other two died of root rot. So I'm being extra careful with this last one and if it survives until next month, I'll get another one and slowly build up from there. 😊
Just have my succulents arrived 2 days ago. I just put a table spoon of water each on all 6 mini pots. Now I know that I don't need to water them often. Thanks for the great info 👍🏻
Thank you. Very easy and excellent information. You have saved many lives/succulents. Mine were probably root rotting. Mushy bottoms and lots of dead leaves under the plants. I didn't know about them holding water. Thank you for an informative video.
I LOVE your channel! I have been a plant Lover my entire life thanks to my Momma, but never Succulents. She never liked them and still mostly doesn’t, but I am winning her over because I have fallen in LOVE with them and she sees My collection growing and how fun they are to grow and propagate
loved this video, the instructions were so good and besides i’m a beginner too i get nervous i actually got my succulent a day ago i’m so excited, but this helped a lot thank you!
@Succulents Box oh thank you!! quick question i’m noticing that my succulent leaves are like falling apart like they’re pretty fragile they’re in a pretty green color as normal but idk why are that sensitive i didn’t pour water to it in 2 days cause the soil wasn’t dry and yesterday i did but i don’t know what’s going on 🥺
I cant imagine knowing so much about these plants haha - I just got my first ones today and would be so scared to remove it from the pot and check the roots
My mom just bought me 3 succulents and I already LOVE them! I am watching loads of videos so I don’t let them die and to take care of them. My room doesn’t get much direct sunlight, is it still okay to keep them in my room? I’ll keep them by my window if that helps.❤️🌵
😘Hi guys, Your youtube channel is amazing. I love watching every minute of it, so helpful. I learned a lot about succulents from you. This has totally changed the way I care for succulents and inspired me to start my succulents nursery in Australia. Waiting to see more of your video.😍😍😍😍
How could anyone dislike this video? Guess you can't please everyone. Anyway, the video was I think very helpful, expecially for beginning succulent growers. Now that I understand about root rot and the succulent concept and their survival metabolism, all this stuff about watering make a lot of sense. I bought an Perle von Nurnberg the other day in a very small grower's pot. I'm just wondering, should I pot up, or wait a few days until it acclimates to its new location? I'm an avid subscriber, BTW and enjoy your no nonsense good information.
Hi Dale, thank you so much for your kind words! You gave us motivation to produce more informative video! About your concern, it is actually a good idea to repot your newly purchased plants as soon as you can. Make sure that you do use well-drained potting mix!
Thank you for the tips! I accidentally started a collection after finding a whole rack of them on clearence. I'm a little nervous about caring for them.
Ok, so last year, i bought two kalanchoe plants. They were really healthy with leaves and a ton of flowers. But going into spring/summer, that's when i struggled with these plants. One of them is losing its bottom leaves and is curling inward. What would this indicate?? I dont believe i am overwatering it, but im also being careful that I dont underwater. Any ideas?
You definitely can get one Renee! It's on our website and here is the link: succulentsbox.com/collections/succulent-tools/products/watering-bottle-500ml
My sister bought my mom one and I was going to initially use a spray bottle but after watching this, I found a small but thick blunt tip syringe? Not sure if it’ll be ok with the metal and all but I’m going to dry it out after each use. Not sure if I need to invest in one of those squeeze bottles.
M a beginner started with leafs of succulent it looks just like in ur thumbnail i started with putting some leaves in water ( leaves started floating on water), some in soil( just on top of soil sprayed water and left in light). The water petals showed mch faster progress then in soil, leafs in water had many white roots while in the soil they dont hav any yet, would it be best if i let them grow in water? Cuz u said overwatering isnt good and may cause harm by rotting of roots
My pot doesnt have a drainage hole but i was told by a gardener that i should only water my plant once a month. Is this right? Also, how would i repot my plant when he gets taller?
A video on where best to grow succulents would be helpful as some require a lot of sunlight and others don't. I had a succulent that was growing very well in a window until it got too big. When I repotted it and placed it in the hall because it was too big for the window it just died. Is it possible to grow succulents outdoors in the UK?
Hi Jaz, I'm very sad to hear about it. However, ensure that the succulents in your planter have similar light requirements, and keep them in a part of the hall that fits them best when you move it outside. Hope this helps
You should use rainwater/distilled water/filtered water if possible to avoid mineral deposit. If you use tap water, leave it out overnight to allow some of the treated chemicals to dissipate into the air.
We will definitely make a video about this issue. For now, you can take a look at our blog, hope this can help you well 😍 succulentsbox.com/pages/planting
So I propagated succulants, however I'm confused whether I should be misting my succulent or use a squeeze bottle. They are sitting on top of the soil (so I would assume I am supose to mist them) however when I actually plant them in the soil should I still be misting them or using the squeeze bottle? I thought misting them damaged the leaves. I'm confused
Mist the soil lightly while propagating. Once rooted and planted, use a squeeze bottle to water the soil, not the leaves. Avoid misting after planting to prevent leaf damage.
I have 2 spiraling succulents, stonecrop raym. Hamet. They have pointed green leaves. I only have moisture retention soil. Is this bad? I have a bag of volcanic rock though.
Yes! Using a moisture-retentive soil is generally not ideal for most succulents, succulents thrive in well-draining, gritty soil mixes. Mix the moisture-retentive soil with the volcanic rock at a ratio of around 2:1 or 3:1 (soil to rock). Or you can find succulent potting soil here succulentsbox.com/collections/succulent-tools/products/succulent-potting-soil
What about bottom watering? I have a tiny succulent, and apparently bottom watering is great for them. And it’s almost impossible to get water in the soil because it’s so small
Hi there, yes you can but be careful. Indoor succulents do not dry out as fast and do not need to be watered as much, compared to outdoor ones. You only need to remember one thing: only give them a good soak of water when the soil is completely dry!
i am a beginner in succulents and i was always confused on when to water them. i live in a really hot place and i think once a week is not enough for them. the soil becomes completely dry in like 2-3 days. so i have to water them little by little. do i water them enough? or is there a problem with the soil? i have to mention that my succulents were not in the best condition when i bought them, but they grew a lot and seem a lot better and healthy in just 3 weeks. should i just contiune? i just really dont want my cacti to rot and die.
Hi there, sorry for our late reply, we must have missed your comment :( Please check the condition of the soil, is it well-drained enough? Also, when you feel that the soil is dry, please make sure that it's dry from the bottom as well not only from the top. You can check the moisture by putting your finger or a wooden stick deep into the soil, or you can buy a moisture meter. One good rule of green thumb is that only give them a good soak of water when the soil is completely dry!
Usually, we recommend that we should water the succulents once every 2 weeks for beginners. But the watering frequency depends on each type of succulent, so one more notice that checking the soil before watering is the best way to avoid overwatering. You might want to check our blog for more information about this topic 😉 succulentsbox.com/pages/watering
Mam what is the pot size u would prefer for a succulent(just for a single succulent but i really want the little ones to grow too if little plants arise)
Generally, it's recommend to choose a container that is 10% larger in diameter than the width and the height of your succulent. For instance, if your chubby green has a width of 4-inches, a pot with 4.5-inch diameter will be ideal for it ❣
I need answers ASAP I have two “clay” pots with no drainage hole annnnnd the rocks on top are glued down! So I can’t check the soil! I’ve set both pots (full of multiple succulents) in a frisbee full of water so they can suck the water up whenever they need it! Is this a good idea? Will this force them to suck up the water even if they don’t need it??
It can cause the soil to stay too wet, leading to root rot, especially since you can't check the moisture level due to the glued rocks. Succulents prefer to dry out completely between waterings. Without drainage holes, excess water has nowhere to go, which can force the plants to take up more water than they need.
@@SucculentsBox okay okay thank you! So I’m gonna wait like 7 days or more before watering again so they can completely dry out ! Also I can tell when the pots have water because of the darker rings around the pots when those are gone does that mean it’s dry?
@@mallory7695 You can use your finger to check the soil. If the soil feels dry and powdery when you stick your finger in up to the second knuckle, it's time to water your plant.
It is, my friend. We should avoid spraying watering on succulents' leaves like with other plants. Check out more watering tips here succulentsbox.com/pages/watering?_pos=3&_sid=0a94d5e40&_ss=r
Hi there, please hold off watering and repot the plant. Please dig the succulent out of the soil and remove excess soil stuck to the roots, cut off any brown/black roots as these are rotten already. Allow the root to dry, then plant them back in the pot using well-drained soil mix.
My pot has a drainage hole but water didn't draining out when i water my succulent, please helppp me!, i just bought my succulent but because it was too big and the pot which came with it was small so i repotted it into a shallow pot (i bought soil from a plant shop), after 2 days, i watered my succulent just now and this happened, I am so worried.
Hi My, thanks for following us. Maybe you made a mistake when watering your plants. The best way to water most plants is to pour enough water into the pot to completely wet all the potting mix - from top to bottom - and let the excess water escape out the holes. Hope this helps
Yess, before watering, make sure to thoroughly soak the soil until water drains out of the drainage hole at the bottom of the container. Then give the soil some time to dry out. Don't water it again until the soil becomes completely dry. You can learn more about watering tips by reading this blog. succulentsbox.com/pages/watering
Will you make a video of how to make an indoor wall display too please? The issues that would be raised are how to prevent damage to the wall and floor when watering. Whilst also making the display as pretty as an outside one. Thanks. Videos are fantastic.
I'm afraid that there is so much stuff to pay attention to when you want to care for Orchids that we can not write down all of them here. What is your specific concern?
Hi there, it is always recommended that you should let the cuttings callous over for 1-3 days before planting them into soil. Then you can give them a good soak of water when soil fully dries out.
@@SucculentsBox Thank you but I had a cactus that had a fake flower glued onto it and I took it off and I’m the middle of it I accidentally put a split into one of them and I wasn’t sure if I could water it while it had a wound.
Hahaha I was just having fun and referencing something. Great video though! I watch this as I got my first succulent yesterday and it really helped, thank you. :)
The more u care the more u lose😅 i have kept my 8types of succulents on tarrece in rain from 2months😮 important things are add more sand than soil and more draining holes and very really bright light
@@SucculentsBox one is a plastic organizer dish i put holes in then the others are in the same planters from amazon. I separated a big arrangement i got for a gift today
@@jessiekaylee6496 that sounds beautiful. We have this blog on How to care for succulent arrangement and I think it can help you succulentsbox.com/blogs/blog/how-to-care-for-succulent-arrangement?_pos=1&_sid=8495fa603&_ss=r
