For your Form Friday Challenge, we are going to take a look at hip hinging. What does it actually mean to hip hinge, and can you do it correctly?⁣

A hip hinge is basically any time you shift back using your hips. Today we will be looking at how you perform this movement. ⁣

Do you hinge while getting great eccentric glute length, or does your hinge come from spinal extension or flexion? Meaning, do you actually use your hips, or do you mostly use your spine? ⁣

Watch today’s video for a great demonstration of proper hip hinging. I go over an easy way to tell whether your back is moving or if it is staying nice and straight, and allowing for great glute lengthening!⁣

How did it go? If you found yourself to be hinging from your back, were you able to adjust your hinge and get better glute length?⁣

I just learned about the hip hinge recently. For the last 2 years I’ve been having this low back joint pain when I squat and my squat has been weak. But I started learning the hip hinge and now my squat going up with barley any pain still working on no pain and still relearning the deadlift with the hip hinge. Also a cue I learned was to “pretend your closing a drawer behind you”

@@midnull6009 yea now I feel ik a lot better at this. Make sure you don’t have flat feet which I definitely had. Where the inner part of your foot collapsed. Also been sinking my hip flexors into my body, like upwards, almost like shoving my legs into my abs. That’s felt good too

I was gonna start doing the good morning exercise, making sure I understand the prerequisites first. Looks like I got this, thanks.

I would suggest deadlifting a mop handle, engaging your core, bending your knees slightly on the way down and THINK about pulling yourself up using your glutes. Do all steps slowly at first until you get a rhythm. Good Luck😎

Do 3 sets of 15 with a stick while u press it on those 3 points. Once you start walking completely relaxed it literally sets you in the perfect posture like that's the way you should normally walk .. ;) if it feels unatural it means ur posture is bad.

Hi, what do you mean with press it on those 3 points?
@TravelinArtBook

Nice exercise. I think it really trains the body (certain muscles) to do what it is suppose to do. I use this exercise to create proper glute/ham function and strengthening, dynamic back stretching for my lumber region and build up 👆 deep abdominal strength.

Hi if I understand correctly I should keep my spine straight and not tilt my pelvis during hip hinge .thanks

Your spine is a key part of body’s flexibility and mobility, please explain i don’t understand.
@CoreExerciseSolutions

Yes! It is! But also we also need to move in all joints of our body and getting glutes to eccentrically load is also super important.

What I have understood from YOUR video that Pelvis should be neutral neither Anterior nor Posterior while hip hinges? Am I right?

Is it okay to feel a tightening, but no movement in your back when hip hinging?
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 3 года назад
You want to feel your glutes lengthening. If you feel it in your back you may be overusing your paraspinals. I would have to see you move to know for sure.

Hi, so I want to pick any item from floor, then should I first hip hinge and then bend my knees also ? Thanks.

yes! - that is a great place to start.

When I hip hinge, I keep my core tight and rigid. However I get frustrated because I can never feel a stretch in my glutes. Instead, I feel it in my calves :/
@CoreExerciseSolutions
@CoreExerciseSolutions 3 года назад
Have you ever taken a video of yourself to see what may be going wrong? Sometimes if we watch ourselves we see things that we did not feel during the exercise and they can be great clues for adjustments (I find things all the time when I take videos of my workouts!).
@Jasper-td3qx
@Jasper-td3qx 3 года назад
@@CoreExerciseSolutions I have, however I find that although my back stays neutral my lower back feels very tight :/ perhaps I have poor core strength, my upper body feels very hard to keep from wobbling as I hinge
@CoreExerciseSolutions

@@Jasper-td3qx Possibly. Great investigative work. I would have to see you move to know for sure but sounds like you are doing a great job noticing what is going on with your body!

It’s not possible to bend without your spine moving.
