Angel Hernandez needs to introduction. He's known as the most hated and the worst umpire in baseball. But how did het get here? Lets take a deep dive into his career. #mlb #angelhernandez #umpire
The thing that everyone misses about this type of umpire is facts. If he's doing such a lousy job don't you think MLB will investigate why he's doing so lousy? Is the gambling world holding his games ransom? Or does MLB tell him which bad calls to make so Vegas makes money on betting public. Wake up baseball fans. What job can anyone have that they are known as the worst in their field and make it to retirement without being fired? MLB is fixed AH is proof
It wasn't just the bad calls. It was the player's ejections and the arrogance that made him the most hated umpire. Now, Bucknor and Diaz are the worst for calls; and Ron Kulpa is the worst for arrogance and elections (IMO).
WestCoasting206 A child who suffers from nightmares 😂 It’s more like the consolation prize for not making the grade as a MLB player. This guy was one of the worst umpires I’ve ever seen. He blew so many obvious calls. Some in key situations. But his attitude was actually even worse than his umpiring.
@@JabroniBaseball that's horseshit.....if the public started jumping up and down on MLB.....even getting together to boycott godam baseball games.....they'd have to do something
So umpires doing a shit job at there job and being called out for it is ruining the game? What’s the point of having umps calling rules that they can’t even accurately call? There has been sooooo many strike calls that were clearly balls that alone can ruin the game
I was fortunate enough to go to the Red Sox-Yankee series in London in 2019. Two games & Hernandez worked both games. First game, Angel is announced before the game started, and was promptly booed quite a bit. Second game? Nothing....
Sorry, as a former umpire I can say that good umpires ARE noticed. Not by fans illiterate of the rules, but by players and coaches. A great hitter is one that consistently hits above.300. A good pitcher wins twice as many games as he loses. Every umpire is expected to be perfect and they get paid nothing compared to MLB players. The lowest scrub on every MLB roster will earn a minimum of $740,000 this year. The highest paid umpire will max out at $400,000 and will be umpires with 30+ years experience. An effing MLB rookie who rides the bench will make a GUARANTEED $740,000. The highest praise I ever got as an umpire was not from fellow umpires. It was from a middle aged beer league softball manager and a 14 year old PONY baseball catcher. In the former case I overheard the softball manager tell his team that I was tough, but fair and that if I got respect I would respond in kind. The 14 year old simply told his constantly complaining coach to, and I quote, "Shut up. He's doing a great job."
In negotiating a payoff, MLB is no better than Hernandez. They, like him, couldn't publicly acknowledge their mistake in keeping him on the crew roster.
I have to say I find it really unbelievable that some MLB player (or players) did not crack Angel over the head with a ball bat. And it is just an embarrassment the ML ump association that “they” did not fire AH…long ago.
They could care less in this era because of their laziness with everything they could ever have to have a happy life they will choose to ignore it from past generations to the current younger generations
Angel thought he was bigger than the game, too bad he didn't have the awareness to realize how bad he was at his job. Will not be missed, should of happened 10 years earlier
I disagree with the notion that "we shouldn't know a good umpires name." We SHOULD know who good umpires are. We should praise the umpires who are good at their jobs vs umpires that are inconsistent and poor at their work.
I do agree with you. We should know the good umpires. But when you’re focusing on the game and it goes smoothly, realistically nobody goes “this umpire is actually really good at his job”. If we ever get to that point it’s because of the incompetence of the rest of the umpires to have people take strong notice of good ones
@@JabroniBaseball Well, the incompetence of umpires is already VERY well known. Yet we still don't look at the good umpires. We are already at the point, but we are looking at the wrong umpires.
I used to umpire with Alfonso Marquez.....he's currently ranked the 3rd worse in the MLB.....when we used to work together in Amateur Baseball, I would BEG him to let me call 'the plate' (knowing that his "magical, wandering strike zone" would piss everyone off)......he'd never swap - consequently, i'd be constantly SCREAMED AT (while doing the bases) cuz of his shoddy 'work'. After a year or two - he came up to a few of us and said he was invited to MLB Umpiring 'Camp'......most of us were amazed until he told us it was because "they need more Mexican Umpires in Professional Ball".......but the one redeeming thing about Alphonso is that he KNOWS the fans haven't come to "see him" (which hernandez & his massive ego never realized)~
If compared to other umps, his calls behind the plate were actually pretty good. CB Buckner has more bad home plate calls than Angel ever had. The problem with Angel is he brought race into an argument that never existed. What it came down to, in my opinion, Angel Hernandez just assumed that being an umpire, he was untouchable. I’ve always wondered if both him AND C B Buckner bet on the game they’re umping in… Worth a look? I think so.
The fact that he was in MLB since 1991 highlights an even bigger problem with MLB. In other jobs you get fired. In MLB you become the Energizer Bunny and just keep going and going and going. In light of some of his calls you have to believe he is betting on the games, and will make sure he always wins his bets.
I don't know if it's the colour correction or brightness settings you're using, but the whole video is a bit dark and muddy, especially compared to the standard white RU-vid interface. I get that older clips won't look like 4K, but even the webpage capture at 7:00 is darker than it should be and not pleasant to look at.
Thanks for the heads up. I don’t do any color correction within Final Cut but I’ll give the next video a closer look to make sure that it doesn’t happen again
I work with a angel hernandez type . He was only promoted 4 months into the job by racial discrimination. And you are not allowed to critize or poke fun at him. And he pretended to not understand english
Between the personality conflicts, terrible balls and strikes, poor calls on the bases . He's got to go! If back in the day late 18 early 19 they had computer technology do you think they would use people. Can't wait to see the day when players have the precise accuracy they deserve.
Umps like angel are why mlb is looking at AI solutions and it’s sad. Umps are important and should be treated like the athletes they judge. If they ain’t good let them go and take care of the good ones.
@1:58 You showed these calls? There were hundreds of way way way worse calls in his career...these are borderline strikes....it's where the ball crosses the plate and France had wicked ball movement away from rightys....(probably sticky stuff)
I think he quit before people found out he was gambling on games he was reffing . To be so blatant about stuff when he knows he’s wrong, Screams fixing games..
Umpires can be clutch like players. Angel did not have that at all. I also believe he made calls to get at players. Good riddance. I would have more respect but not going to give any after suing baseball. That was a joke
@@JabroniBaseball of course! That was a harsh way of saying I admit. I only meant that it's a different word than print. I apologize for not being more gracious.
Bucknor and Diaz are horrible. Nepo baby Vic Carapozza is no prize. If Doug Eddings is still umpiring, he has to be in the running as well. And Mike Easterbrook, you can feel free to retire as well.
He shouldn't be getting any more money from MLB though - fired, and pension denied. ..Not some kind of negotiated financial agreement upon his immediate retirement. Let the jackass live off his Social Security and money saved in the bank.
@@randomstuff508 He's paid plenty enough money into Social Security to live comfortably. A lot of which he shouldn't had been allowed to accumulate.. MLB should've gotten rid of him much earlier on - in order to make room for someone else who actually cares about doing a good job umpiring, and moreso deserves to receive such high pay. Apparently, the Umpires Union failed MLB fans by not having enough organizational integrity to prevent the disaster of Angel Hernandez from happening in the first place.
I do… I would do exactly what Hernandez done, kept my cool and composure. You don’t know what is muttered and whispered between catcher, batter and ump. Concerning Langford , he had it coming to him as a loudmouth rookie. I’m sure he deserved it for mouthing off to Hernandez in games b4. Umps have good memories . Love it . G o a t angel
@@JabroniBaseball Yeah, but his crew is the biggest bunch of COWARDS in MLB history. They hung him out to dry on the Armondo Gallaraga Perfect Game. Then of course, c*cks*cker Bud Selig would not call it a perfect game. Shouldn't he be backed up on the LAST OUT of a Perfect Game? Of course, this was ANOTHER Detroit sports team screw-job, that eventually changed the rules (replay).
