It's true that Google does not need to pay Apple so that people uses Google. The executives know it too. They keep paying Apple anyway to keep Apple away from making their own search engine.

there is some truth to this but i think it's not quite correct. While Samsung also sells premium phones, the most deciding factor for customers isn't Apple vs. Samsung but iOS vs. Android. The decision for a device only comes after that ecosystem decision. Just like Apple doesn't compete with the likes of Dell or Lenovo but with Microsoft.

@@hilal_younus I tried using DDG for a while. It's great for some general searches, but if you need some niche things, the results are just terrible. On top of that, it fails miserably you are outside main markets like US/CA/UK.

@@nomeus but the fact that google manipulates the search results based on ads and relevance and that they track your data And search history even if you’re incognito is A big factor , DDG gives me the search results as it is , And that’s how i prefer it , I don’t want another person interfering with the information I get , And I’m pretty certain I’m not the only one who prefers it this way...

the results are so bad on DDG, it feels like it never has what you’re searching for on the top of the rankings. Google is simply better at search

It’s like it just gives me images based on the literal description I searched for without taking into account that most people don’t type with exact descriptions that match search results

Chinese tech giants operate in countries that purposely force their citizens to use shittier products out of nationalism. Outside their state-sponsored monopoly, their numberes are dwarfed by the rest of the world.

​@andrejagreen It is more effective for Google than you might think. eg. in iPhones, you can directly type any single keyword into the browser link of Safari and if it is not a website link, you will directly get search results on Google. this in turn becomes a way for Google to earn money from advertisers who pay Google to display their Google search results/products. Once users become used to this, they will just keep searching like this with Safari instead of going directly to any search engine website first, especially if they are already using the browser on the phone. This enables Google to lock in users; users need not be aware or even admit that they prefer Google over Yahoo or Bing, but they will repeatedly use this function until Google's search function from Safari is all they use. This advantage is very pivotal in times of instant gratification in a digitized world where users want information as soon as possible, wherever as possible.

@andrejagreen and that would be doable if Google was trashy and didn't work like intended. Google on the contrary knows you more than you know yourself and gives you correct answers. So yeah even if it's 3 buttons, unless apple asks users by default to select the search engine, most users wont be changing the default search engine.

I was Android fanboy, bought an iPhone after being disappointed by low quality flagship phones that I tried an iPhone. Now I have a MacBook, Apple Watch, use Apple services and have never looked back.

Recently switched to iPhone but it's a struggle. Not worth it imo. No RU-vid Vanced, no easy private dns, no micro sd card slot, I can go on and on. If all you do is email and social media you are good. For power users jailbreaking is mandatory imo

That said though, this lawsuit would hurt Google more than Apple. Google loses access being default search engine on a billion devices and eventually Apple MIGHT build their own search engine. Then it is 💀 for Google. If this happens Apple will become an absolute behemoth. Apple has already shown that they are interested in getting into the ad business, which right now is dominated by Google and Meta(Facebook). Apple having their own search engine as default on over 1 billion Apple devices could help them make further inroads into the ad business, which would hurt Google and Meta.

That said though, I think Apple could easily build a search engine. You underestimate Apple. They are masters of execution. If they do something, they will do it Right. For example, they shocked the entire industry when they launched their M1 chip. No one expected it to be so powerful.

Google put in millions if not billions to improve their search algorithm. It is their intellectual property. That’s why they don’t make it open source, otherwise other companies or other countries would just steal it.
