I am afraid, that you have fallen into tourist traps. It is not a trap for foreigners, but for Polish people from cities. So for good polish food, you need a better restaurant. It was not an original wooden house, but it was built a few years ago in a touristy town surrounded by market stalls with crapy things for a tourist.

The service in entire country went bad. Restaurants barely survived pandemic, and now they are getting around 300% rise on bills for electricity and gas. So they are firing employees and are left with skeleton crews in many places. Waiting time, service, overall experience is much worse than 4-5 years ago. Of course it's not the case in all of places, but I surely noticed it in many restaurants.
To be honest service in 90% of restaurants was always terrible in Poland, even worse than in France. In America or the UK this would be called an insult. Unfriendly & bored is sadly common in Poland sometimes i feel as if they would rather have no guests at all. If you feel unwelcomed as a guest thats a real pain in the but, why spending my money there?
@@quigonjinn3567 What are the wages in France and how long is the vacation time? After the pandemic, it is difficult to find good workers. Product prices in Poland are like those in western Europe. It's easy to complain when you don't know the realities.
@@quigonjinn3567 Oh, that's basically all the customer service in Poland. This is just our nature. It comes to more natural approach, not to be always smiled, and having fake courtesy. To be honest - for many polish people those "fake smiles" are even more obnoxious than bad service. Might be a cultural shock, I know.
@@mmaruszewicz c'mon, service up here was always bad in comparison with US or UK. It got better but after 2020 it went bad again for known reasons. I wonder what would Andre say about service in 90's 😆
To nie do końca prawda. Złą robotę robią tzw. fajno-Polacy, którzy całe życie mają kompleks niższości wobec Niemców, Francuzów, Włochów. Całe życie przepraszają za to, że Polska jest taka obciachowa. Polska i wszystkie polskie, piękne tradycje. Nam pozostaje chwalić się tym, co mamy, bo mamy się czym chwalić. Obcokrajowcy coraz częściej przyjeżdżają do Polski, więc nie bez powodu.
The waiter putting the plate on the side of the table and saying nothing was super weird, ive been to shady places where it feels like Soviet Union, but never seen something like this You can get better service in a bus station cafe
In south Oscypek (traditional cheese from Polish Highlands). Soups Żurek in bread, kwaśnica. Schabowy (breaded pork). If you like cabbage try Bigos. I can recommend Dwa Noże restaurant in Ustroń or Angel’s Steak & Pub. Take care
Yes to me it looked like if she just is not confident enough (most probably the language barrier) like if she panicked a bit I think she didn't want to be rude but it looks like she is. Sometimes ppl are reserved because they are scared of failing so she just literally run away omg.. but Andre deserves a better quality service and waiting time was unacceptable. Employees these days in this department should be decent with their English - (worldwide speaking language)
This service standard is pretty common in random restaurants in Poland. Sometimes I feel like if you just want to eat something out, get it relatively quick and cheap, you better go for fast foods, if you want to try something traditional or “more exclusive” you need to find more expensive and higher quality restaurant. Their service standards are usually pretty good. Going through google review on local restaurants might help you out with finding good place for you. Good luck and enjoy your time here.
Being Polish I'm really sorry to see what happened to you in this 'so called' restaurant :( Please come visit Cracow, standards here are better :) Na zdrowie!

No, however busy you are, that is not the way you present food to your customer. But, maybe, they made a mistake in the kitchen, he had to wait very long, so the girl was afraid that he might complain and she cannot answer in English. See how she was looking to his table when later on she was passing to the next table.
@@NoLimitNo In their defence, I would probably gave him the same look. Probably as every other Pole. It's not like we're racist and are looking at you from an upper side - we're just plainly curious since we don't have many foreigners in our country, especially at countyside. I myself am from a big city and whenever I see a foreigner I just cannot fight the urge to look at him for a split second. So just be aware that this look isn't supposed to be rude.
@@johannessugito1686 Yeah, it looks the same way for me as well as she was just too scared to serve the customer the right way. I wouldn't blame her but she could say something at least as Andre gets some of polish words :)
Hey man It's awesome that you've tried some traditional polish food in poland. I'm very sorry for the way you need to live through some services... It's just so unpleaseant to see polish people especially the one working in service treating an amazing person like you this way. I hope you will get some much better service in the future if you ever go eat there or anywhere else. Keep up the good work and I'm really enjoying you videos man! The kindest and best regards, the hald polish guy living in Sweden.
Żurek was a good choice - one of our national soups, my personal favorite. Rolada śląska (Silesian) is typical for Silesian province, but in other provinces popular as well. Rolada can be easily made wrong if cook is not experienced enough. You need to visit "karczma's" that have "hunting dishes" with venison as well. There are polish dishes as well and they are really awesome.
Great one again from Ustroń is at the very top of a mountain Równica above the city - you can easily go there by a car too if you need. There are actually 2 restaurants, one is Zbójnicka Chata which is OK but the great one is called Dwór Skibowki - it has a GREAT view from the mountain and great food. We ordered a full course (korytko) meant for 4 people - and we couldn't finish it in 6 people. :D
I think the service was feeling shy beacuse they didn't know English and also they weren't very happy to be on camera. I think it would have been polite to ask if the team was OK with filming. In busy tourist places sometimes you can wait long for your food, I've once waited for an hour for my meal in a restaurant on Hel and they also did not appologize. So they probably treat like that all their customers: foreigners and Polish. The main problem I see here is that the waiter's role is not only to provide the food but also to make the customer feel welcome. And they didn't even smile at you. They certainly failed it.
Soup was żur or żurek made from sour rye flour, its my favourite one. 2nd meal was rolada śląska z kluskami śląskimi, a typical silesian Sunday meal, also one of my fav but I grew up on it. Polish food is not spicy its usually sour and in mountain region of Poland I would recommend kwaśnica, pierogi, grilled oscypki with cranberry sauce. Meals there are simple but usually tasty.
Aight, sooo I would like to say that when I accidentaly saw one of your videos about your visit in Poland I was a bit afraid, how people are going to treat you. But it was surprise for me, and I'm soooo sooo happy that everyone is smiling at you and they are nice and kind for you. And I want to say thank you, because people from around the world can now see how nice our country is, and that the situation with war is not touching us personally :) Wish u all best bro, take care
If you need spicy then ask for spices, because not everyone lika sipcy food. That girl who put your food on the table edge,I can tell ,she was just afraid of you.
Personally I feel that recording without consent didn’t really help your case… especially in a place like Poland where people can interpret this as being impolite. Still, I appreciate you documenting your travels and sharing it with us
Poland was my favorite place that I travelled to in Europe. I love the medieval atmosphere especially with the food and architecture. Super underrated country that not many Americans go to.
In Toruń and some big cities there is Pierogarnia Stary Młyn with traditional baked or cooked pierogi. They are very delicious! Korona in Kłodzko isn't restaurant with traditional Polish food, but food is very, very delicious and cheap if you buy a set for 2 people (for 2 people it's very much food, I couldn't eat it all with my parents).
I personally love that food so much. The red cabbage is great. As a child I hated it, nowadays I love it so much. Here in Hungary we love the red cabbage as well. The girl must have not liked it to be filmed. A lot of people these days hate to be in the camera they try to void it and because they do not know English they will not tell you just show you they do not appreciate this. :) I had similar situation with me and my Polish friends in Czech Republic. They simply did not give me anything because we spoke Polish. I could not understand why they did that to us. So we had to go to another place to eat and have something for a drink.
Mate you've got to dodge these generic lager beers and try the craft IPAs in Poland, there are more decent ones to choose from here than even back in the UK! There are micro-breweries everywhere. I guess maybe not in the rural area where you are, that's why they gave you Warka haha. Greetings from Bialystok.
Whenever I take my Hungarian friends to Poland, my mother lives in nearby Istebna, and they love the Polish food so much, they appreciate is so much that they always ask me to go to my mothers again. The problem is I did not eat the second course with you. It looked good but who knows how it tasted.
Possibly. If that is the case, she might thing of other job then waitress. The last time I check, waitress is suppose to comunicate with customers freely. That is like having veterinarian scared of animals.
Long waiting times may be caused by an incomplete crew of chefs. It's about maximizing profits at the expense of customers' time. The reduced number of customers in restaurants after the pandemic has magnified such situations. Probably normal waiting time is 25-30 minutes.
polish people are shy when speaking english, especially while being recorded when if you make a mistake it will forever stay on yt and peoplle will make fun of you forever. just a bit of understanding - imagine if someone records your every conversation in polish and make fun of your speaking abilities ;)
If you decide to come to Hungary again, I'd recommend a small villiage ~60 km south from Budapest called Tass. There's a great little restaurant on the side of the Danube called Pákász. Their food is godlike. If they're still open that is. Been a while since I've been there. But according to google they're still open 12-20
Traditional Polish food is not spice heavy, it's a hearty food that was meant to feed and provide sustenance for the old world which was a tough way of life did not have the access to the variety of spices that we are now all used to. You will find more flavors in the new age restaurants. Unfortunate that the service was sub par as we're known for our hospitality.
Hi André, Thanks for the nice video from my country. Thanks also for the warning against this restaurant and honest feedback, I will definitely not go there when I am passing through. Well done.
Hello Andre! Loved your video. I am sorry you had to experience this kind of "customer service" but I feel like I want to explain why this girl acted so strange. It was probably because they had many orders and she was stressed and in a hurry. She might have wanted to avoid the conversation to avoid speaking in English. We are still very shy to speak English and it might look very rude sometimes. Still, it shouldn't happen, it's a very bad service. Great lesson for them. 👏
Of course is safe. I lived in UK for 10 hand now I live in USA from 2006 and Poland is so, so much safer for everyone, for man and woman, for kids and for old men. Especially in the cities, Polish cities are one of the safest in the world. I know because I visited so many countries all the world.
11:53 when I was in one pub which I love it is called Buffalo in Kazincbarcika, Hungary. Once, only once I waited for my second course for 40 minutes since I had finished the first course. They told me just after some 25 minutes that the dis did not succeed and they had to make another one. That was the reason for such a long waiting. :) Not I am laughing at the situation. :)
Man, the service was not bad at all...that girl was just shy. She clearly didn't want to be recorded. Not everybody loves being on youtube, you know..? She just shied away from the camera, which is completely understandable. As for the rest, there was nothing wrong or absurd.
Yeah there is nothing wrong with the service waiting for 1 hour to get such an ordinary dish on the edge of the table . Really??? Lmao He got his order almost after everyone left the restaurant This behavior is called racist and I call your response ignorance
She was just scared that you would start to ask questions in English. Plus don't expect the staff to be rocket scientists, especially in a place like this.
Firstly, it is not a wild animal fur but domestic cattle fur. I know you may feel being ignored by waitress but this might not be necessarily as you consider. Polish teens from small towns and villages are usually shy. They are not used to speak English and deal with foreign tourists. They are afraid of conversation in English.
Nice to see you, Andre :) 30 minutes isn't that long to be honest. It's fresh so it takes time. I know this restaurant. Service looks bad, especially this girl - probably she don't know any foreign language so she run away. Putting plate on the side of the table - yeah, it happens when they're in hurry... it doesn't change the fact, that i'ts rude. I hate that too.
If you're still in Ustroń, please give me a sign. I live here. I can take you to the good restaurant and show you tasty meal ;) Podkowa wasn't a good choise :)
I dated a lady from Krakow for a few years. A well-kept secret for finding good food in rural areas is the police station. Many have canteens in them that are open to the employees AND the general public. The ones she took me to had kitchens that were staffed by 6 - 10 sturdy women who could only bring the thought "grandma" to mind. Some of the best food I've ever had in my LIFE...!!
I don't understand what is wrong with the service? Foreigners are treated like everybody else. The restaurant looks nice and clean and the food looks good too. It's not a fast food restaurant, so you have to wait a little. As I see you had your soup and beer in ten minutes. People usually go to restaurant with friends and family, so they feel time differently. It looks like they made the food freshly, so it's took some time. You should Google the traditional foods what you want to try. The staff was helpful and the Polish people are friendly. Not everybody speaks English and not everybody like to be filmed without permission. If your standards are so high, do your research, prepare better, go to a more expensive restaurant and pay more.
You can clearly see food isn't anything special enough to wait an hour for a damn thing. As for service noone even gave him menu and he needed to ask waiter to come to him to make order, which is a terrible start especially consiedering fact they don't have that much people to serve, on top of that waitress didn't even give him plate, just putted it wherever on table and ran away. You can't really even call it service can you? It's year 2022 if you want to work as a waitress you need to be prepared that people may film and photograph stuff, if you are shy it's just not a job for you. If you are used to this bad service maybe it's time to find some new restaurant and see how different it is when staff actually pay some attention to customers
Bruh! Come to Poznan (Poland) and try PYRA Z GZIKIEM 😎 It's potatoes with a kind of cottage cheese, cream with chives and sometimes even radishes. So simple and soo delicious 💞
hi Andre, I see that you were traveling pretty close to my hometown, sorry for the bad experience in Ustron restaurant but I highly recommend restaurants at the Rownica mountain in Ustron as well, there is Karczma Skibowka or Zbojnicka Chata. If you have more time and you have a car, I recommend you go to town named Koniakow, which is not too far from Ustron and there is Karczma Ochodzita, all are real traditional Polish kitchens with live music on weekends. You will be positively surprised. Regards from Australia. Cheers mate
I had a tall Korean friend, who also tried to use his Czech language skills in Poland. He also did not know, that Polish word "wolny" has two meanings "slow" and "free".
This is the perfect example of a lack of friendly interaction between the staff and the client which makes the client feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable despite beautiful surroundings. Shame. All that it takes is a nice genuine smile, how are you, nice to see you. enjoy your food ... basics really! I hope the next one you decide to visit would be more client-friendly.

@@truthoutmedia you're right, YT is not (or shouldn't be about clickbait), but why did you say mate to Andre and then when this guy replied, you put it in inverted commas 'mate'?
Hello Andre, sorry about your terrible restaurant experience. I am a new subscriber looking forward to other Poland experiences. If I ever I visit Poland i will follow your recommendation.💜💜
Did you try any dish with mushrooms? Picking mushrooms in Poland is like a national sport. There are plenty of them in the forests and you can pick them freely, almost all Poles love it and recognize the most popular and precious genres: prawdziwki, podgrzybki, kozaki, kurki, kanie, maślaki etc. (there aren't even English names for them). Polish people dry, freeze or pickle them to keep them fresh for a longer time. We sometimes add them to bigos or pierogi or make soups or sauses of them. Some of them like kanie or boczniaki taste really good done as a kotlet (put in a raw egg and bread crumbs and fried). Yummie👍
Kluski śląskie i mięsko to pycha. Ale na to trzeba się urodzić Polakiem. Ja nie mogę wziąć do ust np angielskiego śniadania...
Polish people, those who I know, teachers, country people, people on retired, don't go to restaurant at all. This place is mainly for polish tourists, and I think they don't mind much bad service. In big cities service is better I think,'couse there are lot of tourists from another countries.
Food looked normal as it supposed to in a cheap restaurant. Staff was OK. But shy and impeded by self-awareness of their poor knowledge of English and probably irritated by being filmed. I wonder how Andre would feel if he was filmed and commend for wearing a hat while eating (big no no in Poland) and for his not too great table manners and so on.
