How are things after two years in Bangkok, Thailand? Things are great. I love living in Bangkok. I've made a few mistakes, but it all works out in the end.
Here's a few links for my favorite credit cards. I try to check the links often, but let me know if there is a problem. If they change the offer on the card, I may need to update the link. Full disclosure, I get a few airline miles for referring a new customer. You should get the same public offer at no additional cost. Thank you very much.

Ya man, no hurry to rush into anything. I knew I wanted to live in a large city, so Bangkok works for me. But, checking out many options is a great idea. If you end up back in On Nut that's fine. At least you'll know what else is just around the corner.

Friend, I've once been worried of all the pessimism and stereotypes, I understand your concerns for us well. But I can only tell you not to worry much. Only wise people seek for the good and they deserve it. Averse people only find fuel for grudges. I actually thank to those minus credits. They helped us filtering risky guests to come and lessen the ease of our lives. Imagine too much of all kind of people from everywhere. The more different guys crowded up in place, the more issues to come.

I get 99.9% positive comments. There always some person that's mad at the world. Especially when it comes to money. If I say I got a great deal on a condo at 19,000b they like to say that's stupid. They only pay 4000b in some small room in a small farm town. Reading with a candle to save $20 on power. Forget about A/C. A fan in the 100 degree day is good enough. The translation is I can't afford 19,000 for a condo, so why should you spend that. Typical troll behavior. Ha ha. I have buddies that have beautiful homes for over 100,000b a month. That's $2800 US a month. The same place in London or New York might be $10,000 a month. I just say, good for them. Nice condo. I sure can't afford that. But, then again, I'm not mad at the world. My life is great.

Thanks for the video. I found a few nuggets of info I can use in my situation. I'm retired from Ford Motor Company after 30 years as of Jan 1 and now moving to Thailand in 2 weeks. I'm also a US Marine veteran from the early 80s and have Navy Federal Credit Union so it's good to hear you're happy with them over there. I'm a little different than some of your subscribers in that I've been married to a Thai for 7 years and we've been living in American during that time. Now we're going back to her homeland and settled on Bangkok for at least the first year to see if I like Bangkok living in the big city. I've been there 5 times so not a fresh newbie but will still learn many things when I get there. My wife is from Isaan, but she moved to Bangkok when she was 25 and lived there for 12 years before we met, and she loves that city, and she has many friends there so I'm giving it a chance first. If after a year it's not for me, we'll try somewhere else like Hua Hin. I feel like I have a little of an upper hand than single guys moving there as my wife knows the areas in Bangkok and knows what she likes. Her best friend is a realtor in Bangkok and has been going to look at condos for us and sending pictures and videos of the places and it's really made me feel better about committing to a year lease up front before we get there. We're not staying in the center of the city so maybe I'll have the same regret as you about not staying in places like Asoke, but that's the chance I'm going to take. Unlike you, I don't mind getting on the BTS or taking a river taxi often to other parts of the city to shop or go to a restaurant. It's all part of the fun to me. I totally agree that online advice should be taken with a grain of salt and to not lock down your plans based on some yahoo on the internet. Thanks again for the video and maybe I'll run into you there at a park. By the way, you have a new subscriber here. Cheers!

Hey Joe… Great video, info and advice… I’m arriving BKK around Aug. 1st and can’t tell you how helpful your videos are… Even though this is my 2nd visit I still have SO much to learn, which I look forward to as a fun, interesting challenge… One issue that I’m struggling a bit with is the phone situation… Like you, I am going to keep my US AT&T service on an iPhone 15 pro max… The problem is that the I’m paying for the phone on an Apple installment plan that lets me upgrade phone models every year… My understanding is that if the phone isn’t completely paid off that it can’t be unlocked, which means I won’t be able to install a Thai E-SIM on it… I “think” thats the case but not 100% certain, but if true that means I’ll need to buy a second phone to use with my Thai phone number, contact, etc…. Is that what you’re doing? Going to get a condo or AirBnB in the Asoke/Phrom Prong, Ekamai, Nana area for my 1st month and check out different neighborhoods as you suggest… Gracias 🙏🏻

I keep three or four sims in my Thai phone. Indonesia, Malaysia, etc.. I just chose to keep the US phone stand alone. It sounds like you have a good plan. Nana is a little crazy for me. But, I love the other areas you mentioned.

It changed, I believe July 16. You get 60 days visa exempt. That can be extended one time for 1900b. You can then leave the country for a small side-trip. Come back and repeat the 90 day. How many times in a row they will allow this is the big question. A long term visa is the answer for a long term stay. But, it will be easy to just stay half the year with a fast trip to Malaysia for example. Just two trips for an extension. Or pay someone to do it for you. It's three small forms. Avoid Monday or the day after a holiday. Get there when the open, you should be out by lunch. In Bangkok anyway. Other smaller towns, it might take 45 minutes.

@@EagerExpat Well noted. By the way, I was also a part of Reagan's 600-ship Navy in the 80's. Where did the time go? lol. You mentioned you go on scuba dive trips, Do you find it a hassle to find a single diver to pair up at your destination? Been thinking about picking back up that hobby after so many years.

@@vincentkim917 Ya man, Time goes by fast. I was on the USS Horne (CG-30) 84-88 out of San Diego. Made a few West Pac's. No diving is not a problem. Even if there is an odd amount, I usually hang with the dive master. Maybe a $10 tip and he keep an eye on me. I'm usually the weakest link. So, I'm using his air on the safety stops. On those deep dives, some guys can get 30 minutes on a tank. I'm lucky to get 20 minutes. I can hang for 45 minutes at 20 feet. 80 feet is another story. Don't worry about it. Just give the guy a small tip and you'll be fine. I'd rather team up with the dive master anyhow.
