Donald F. Glut has been active in both the entertainment and publishing industries since 1966. Don has had a long and varied career. He has been a professional musician, actor, film director, executive producer, photographer, magazine editor, proofreader and (very briefly, for an advertising agency) copywriter, but is mostly known for his long career as a freelance writer. He has written and directed feature-length motion pictures, documentaries and music videos, authored approximately 80 fiction and non-fiction published books, myriad TV scripts (live action and animation shows, network and syndicated), comic-book scripts, short stories, magazine articles, even music and theatre. He has been involved with numerous popular franchises such as Star Wars, The Monkees, Tarzan, Spider-Man, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Vampirella, Masters of the Universe, The Flintstones, Jonny Quest and many others, and created original comic-book characters for Gold Key, Marvel and DC. Arguably Don is best known for his novelization of the second "Star Wars" movie The Empire Strikes Back (#1 Best Seller). Don currently executive-produces, writes and directs "traditional-style" horror for his company Pecosborn Productions, and writes scripts for The Creeps horror comics magazine. Also, he is a Southern California representative of Las Vegas Talent Agency. Note: Any motion picture titles that may be listed prior to Dinosaur Valley Girls (1997) are of amateur movies, the first of 41 of which Don Glut made when he was nine years old.

►WE USE THIS SOUND RECORDER (AMAZON) - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
Stuff we use:
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

The story was basically saying that when he was in high school he didn't have a lot of the information about options of things you can do as an adult. He didn't know that there were paths that you take in order to get out of your Hometown and into an industry like writing or movies. He then says that he had not came across those opportunities by accident, he doesn't think you would have ever made it out of his Hometown. He then talks about how he was asked to do a speech, and he didn't really want to do it, but if he was going to do what he was going to do it his own way... So he basically gave the Talk that he wanted to get when he was a young man... With advice like college may not be for everybody, but make sure you take the path that is right for you, and to make sure that you know who you are as an individual before you get married. He also says that he didn't think he touched anyone with with his advice, But honestly, I think the students were just too pressured to ignore him, they probably did get something out of his advice.. and his speech you know wasn't really appropriate for a Christian school , because they would have preferred people to get married young, and go the correct path of college...So that's why he had that sort of reaction And he talks about how royalties are really a great way to make money.. Which is advice I also heard on the Ben Hart RU-vid channel. And when he was talking about royalties he was using that as a segway to talk about how one opportunity, even if it's not the perfect opportunity for you, can lead to another 1, which may lead to something even better in the future. How he would make songs and record them and put them in movies or use them for music videos and by doing these different projects, he would meet people, like the choreographer, he was talking about, and he mentions a boa constrictor...which made her stand out. So yeah it was a little bit rambly but the general point of his words were figure out what you wanna do, don't get stuck on the prior set path, but also don't ignore paths that are already smooth, to take opportunities even if they do not seem perfect, and to Embrace and market your unique skills...While at the same time, keeping an eye out for other unique people, and seeing what you can learn and use to improve your work from those unique experiences.. Then, he gave general advice of respecting and being professional, and to curate your image to impress, or at least not tick off the people you want to work with or hire you.. And to make sure your head shot actually looks like you LOL. It's actually very good advice how he said that he would ignore people who came in and who did not look like their headshots, that's a good knowledge to have.. I don't like his advice on not paying for the parking though, it's just too expensive and that just creates more barriers for the Regular people... Hollywood is just filled with nepo babies, and trust fund babies, or the political purity ideologues right now.. it's so bad >.< He is how a lot executives think..it doesnt hurt to understand it xD But the whole idea of uniqueness, I think that is huge, I am honestly so sick of all these writers being clones of each other, and their stories are really making it clear just how ideologically conformist they all are! Like seriously, They may check the so-called diversity boxes, but they do not have any sort of diversity of thought

What’s is diversity to you? Minorities shouldn’t have their stories told?
@chiph9184
@chiph9184 22 дня назад
@Shaaay88 That's not at all what the writer of this comment said. Just because someone may check diversity boxes, does not mean the viewpoint presented in their artistry is diverse. For example, women's stories need to be told, but just because a writer is a women, doesn't mean she's giving a story from the unique viewpoint of a woman; she may write something more "palatable" to men or ideas of women we've already seen repeatedly vs a new or diverse way of thinking. Diverse here meaning to be different, not necessarily ethnically but different from the status quo.

I really enjoy just about anything from Film Courage . But this one... I don't know. He has an accomplished career and it's good to understand how people in the business think. I'll leave it at that.

I’ve no idea what that rambling first story was about, how he failed to give a decent speech? - then how he’s a bit of a git towards talent and a bit petty

Yes, he rambled, but he was basically saying to take big risks and shoot for the moon, especially while you're young. Based on what I've learned from others, he was eluding to the fact that most people take the safe route (college, corporate) and end up in the cliched rocking chair on a porch wishing they had been followed their dreams.
