How Aussie am I...?
A questions I've always thought about during my whole lifetime...(or, almost)
What makes me, me?? 😆
Maybe...getting to know Aussie Slang???

▽About subtitles▽
Thank you so much to everyone who have told me that they can or have made subtitles of different languages in the past few days!!! I know it takes so long and so much brain power to translate.
I have discussed with my agency, and if people could leave the subtitles in the comments section, I will slowly upload them as subtitles in my video :)
If you could let me know the language, and divide the subtitles so it fits the subtitles in the video, that would be great!
(No need to add the time captions! If you could divide them by paragraphs, I think it should be fine!)
Once again, that you so much, I really appreciate all you efforts, I really don't know how to thank you guys.
I'll keep trying harder to make better videos, and continues to grow myself as a voice actress in Japan.
Love you guys and I'll see you in the next video ❤️

I moved to the US from Australia, and in a job interview I used the phrase "spit the dummy". The interview panel all looked at me in stunned silence, while I looked back in confusion. I got the job :)
@yousoreiii

Lmao so what does that mean?
@Texaboose
@Texaboose 2 года назад
@@yousoreiii In Australia (and the UK) a pacifier is called a dummy. So you know when babies are so upset and mad, that they're crying and just spit their pacifier out, and won't accept any comfort? So the analogy of "spit the dummy" is to be totally uncooperative, or broken, for a person or an object. In this particular case the interview was for an IT job, and I was relating how a printer "spat the dummy", so in other words it totally didn't work or want to be fixed easily.

Hi Shu! (✿◠‿◠) Spanish Translations Here: ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ Title: ¿Que tan Australiana soy? What's the Jon Dory?" No conozco esta... "2. Arvo" se refiere a la tarde "3. Bottle-O" es como... tomar en un bar creo... "4. Bonzer!" uhh... Tampoco sé sobre esta... "5. "13. How ya doing luv?" Es como decir, cómo estás pero solo dices "how ya goin' luv" o "how ya doing luv?" "14. Beauty! Mate" Este significa amigo y puedes decir "G'day Mate!" Que es como "Que tal estás amigo?" "18. What a ripper!" Reckon" es "yo creo" por ejemplo, "I reckon we can have brekkie on Monday?" o algo así. "21. Entonces! Ya vimos todas las palabras que busqué. Veamos si las tuve correctas ok veamos Tenemos... "What's the Jon Dory?" que significa "qué tal?" Okey siguiente "Bonzer" no sabia fhrahdk... What a beauty! OyaShuuminasaiii~!!! (¡Buenas noches~!) Adiós~!!

I lived in Sydney for nearly a decade and it's such a great city! It has its downsides too, of course. With some people, you have to go out of your way to prove that you're a 'real Aussie', which is unfortunate. That said, I'm sure there's lots of things that Shu-chan misses about Sydney now that she's in Japan. I miss the kebabs from the Turkish and Lebanese shops!

I don't blame you Shu-chan if you aren't sure of a lot of these since you grew up in Sydney. I grew up in Sydney too and while I know all of them now it's only because I read about them on the internet or one of the Japanese teachers asked me what it means in class when I was an ALT and I had to ask the Japanese teacher what it meant else I would only know about 70% of them myself lol. I think those internet articles documenting these slangs just pick the most country slangs to weird people out for laughs and clicks. Only about half of the words in the list at most are actually used by people in Sydney in my experience and I only use words like reckon, thongs, brekkie, cuppa and heaps etc myself.

The term "Bottle-o" was the guy who used to come around and collect all your empty bottles. Back in the early 60's when you could only buy beer, wine and soft drinks in glass bottles (so way befor your time). It would be "The Bottle Man" subsequently the "Bottle-o" would periodically come by collect your empty glass bottles for recycling and cash. So that is where the term comes from. He would also collect those empty wine flagons (the 2 litre glass bottles of wine) . You still can buy flagons of wine today. They are not as popular as they were then but they are still there. Flagons came before the 2 litre wine casks were invented. Another slang term for cheap wine is "Plonk". Another thing the is that the modern day wine casks is an Australian invention. Keram (Cairns)

This video really blows my mind and the Chinese subs are arrived! G'day就是"Good day"的縮寫 crikey是 "WOW! Tart yourself up... 不過就像是"How ya goin' luv?"或是 "How ya doing luv?" 就可以說"Oh what a beauty!" 我覺得What a ripper的意思是"哇嗚!" I reckon we can have brekkie on Monday"? 等同於"Thanks a lot!" "What's the John Dory?" Wanna cuppa? How ya doin' luv? 或是"How ya goin' luv?" 嗯-!What a beauty! I really learned a lot from this video! The most shocking Aussie word is thongs are sandals??? Because as far as I know, thong is a type of underwear shape like "T". I watched the video was like "Seriously?" and looked it up and laughed so hard. And barbie is barbeque I kinda know why, but the first thing come in my mind is the old school song Barbie Girl by Aqua.

To avoid confusion on the variety of Chinese (as this is actually a Chinese (Taiwan) translation), I removed my old Chinese (Taiwan) translation comment. Since there're no other competitors now, I think this translation could be marked properly as Chinese (Taiwan) if needed. In my opinion, tagging the exact language variety is quite important. Like people in the UK probably do not want to see something called English is actually English (US). Also, as this video mentioned, different places have their slang, so picking up the correct language variety does improve localization. Still, I love this mechanism about translation. It allows people in different countries could also enjoy Shu's bonza video. p.s. Hope this comment won't offend anyone, and the only purpose is to elaborate my thoughts. I didn't mean that someone should do anything differently upon seeing this reply.

I do pretty sure that you may have heard some Japanese slang that Japanese people usually use, and so in Vietnam. If you read my translations below, you can see there are some words that also a slang, like "củ chuối" (means "odd" or "weird"), or "bó tay" (means "I don't know"), etc. And yep, as always, Vietnamese translations for this video, again. Title: Mình chuẩn Úc đến cỡ nào? Translations: (part of 1 of 2, just in case) Mình đã sống ở Úc khoảng 16 năm rồi, nên giờ chúng ta xem mình “Aussie” thế nào nhé! Lý do? “What’s the Jon Dory?” 4. Bonzer! (“good” hoặc “excellent”) Ờm… G’day G’day là viết tắt của “good day”, 7. Crikey! 8. Bikkie Bikkie là “biscuit” (bánh quy) 9. Barbie Barbie là “barbeque” (tiệc nướng), 10. Brekkie Brekkie là bữa sáng, 11. Wanna Cuppa? Wanna Cuppa là, “Do you want a cup of tea?” (Bạn muống uống trà không?) 12. Tart yourself up (làm dáng một cách rẻ tiền, hời hợt) Tart yourself up là… How ya doin’ luv? (“How are you doing, my love?”, chắc thế…) Kiểu như cách hỏi khác của “How are you?” đó! **cười** Thay vào đó , họ sẽ hỏi “How ya goin’ luv?” hoặc là “How ya doin’ luv?”, thế đấy. 14. Beauty! 16. Fair Dinkum! (“honestly” hoặc “really” - thật sự luôn!) Từ này rất là Úc luôn ấy… Nó có nghĩa là một thứ gì đó rất là rõ ràng và chuẩn xác. 17. Mate (“friend” - bạn bè) Nghĩa là người bạn, bạn có thể nói “G’day mate!” giống như hỏi “How are you, my friend?” vậy. 18. What a ripper! (cảm thán mang tính thích thú) Mình nghĩ “What a ripper!” cũng có nghĩa là “Wow!” hay “OMG!”, na ná vậy. Tiếp theo là 19. Strewth! 20. Reckon (“think” - nghĩ [về một ý kiến nào đó]) Reckon, mình nghĩ có nghĩa là, kiểu: I reckon we can have brekkie on Monday?

Hmm… Xem nào… “What’s the Jon Dory?” có nghĩa là “Có chuyện gì vậy?” Cái này mình không biết nghen! “Arvo” - “afternoon” (buổi chiều). “Bottle-O” - cửa hàng rượu bia. Hmm… Yeah! Mình đoán đúng rồi! Tiếp theo là “G’day” nghĩa là “good day”, cái này mình đúng luôn! “Crikey”, “Crikey” thì… đúng luôn này! Nghĩa là… “Wow!” hay là “OMG!” “Bikkie”, bánh quy. Ồ! “Brekkie”, bữa sáng, “Barbie”, tiệc nướng, Hồ~!! Mình đoán đúng roài! (vcl…) “How ya doin’ luv?” hoặc “How ya goin’ luv?” nghĩa là “Hi vọng bạn sẽ khỏe.” nó na ná giống với kiểu hỏi “How are you?” đó. “Beauty” thì… “great” hoặc “fantastic”. Hmm! Yatta! “What a ripper!” là… ồ… là “great” hoặc “fantastic”! Bye~!! Extra: [4:41-4:45]: **drum noises** I'm translating this video at May 23rd, and because your birthday is on tomorrow (maybe?) so... Happy (early? late?) Birthday to you, I guess? By the way, nice wordplay at the end. Hope you got a *_bonzer_* birthday!

It never occurred to me that "ta" was slang, I wonder if "ta ta" for like goodbye is slang too? BTW "What's the john dory?" is a rhyming slang for "what's the story?", I don't think it's very common nowadays.
