Auxilia Palatina are the unsung heroes of the Western Rome campaign. They can absorb all the horde archer arrows with minimal casualties and tear them to pieces in the melee. Plus they actually have good morale, which is more than you can say for most of the Roman infantry in BI.
Whenever I don't control WRE units: Immortal gods who will fight until the last man. Whenever I play as the WRE: Mommy, I am scared! Please give me a hug or I will run away!
@@squishymusic9723 Yep, armoured elephants have a larger hitbox, so they are more eady to hit and take more damage as a result, despite their better stats.
Yeah, coulda been a balancing decision so the flat unit bonuses arent as influential. But its annoying hiw shit morale is in bi pretty much across the board
@@A.Guy10000not really armor as in og legionary, praetorians and urbans have 12 armor but in bi all Roman infantery except the early ones have 10 but the difference is 9 or 10 defence skill as oppose to 5 6 or 7 for each respectably
The only part I was interested in seeing was the Cataphracts. Unlike the RTW Urban Cohorts, the Auxilia Palatina have Anti-Cav bonus. But they're well armored and Catphracts have Armour Piercing. But the Anti-Cav bonus overrode that advantage big time. It wasn't even close. For sure the Catphracts still did damage, but they were losing units rapidly that there was simply no doubt how it was going to go anymore, real quick.
Can't help but be slightly smug about the cataphracts. I am surprised how badly they did against the elephants; auxilia palatina have similar stats to war elephants. All the war elephants have going for them is their extra HP and their special AOE attack. Could you do auxilia palatina versus cliblinarii immortals at some point?
I wish to play mod when base game and BI is mixed together, when on map for example you have Scythians and Sarmatians, Numidians and Berbers. That would be epic!
Thanks for the comment. That kind of mod would be really cool. Imo in the OG game, the limitations are too severe for that but my guess is that it could be done in Remastered :)
Basically, a Spear unit so good it performs as good against Cavalry as the average Pike Phalanx unit did in OG while being so armored that even when not using shield wall (which you can't because that formation is specific to the BI engine) it takes virtually zero damage. Its only fault is that it is not as good at stopping Elephants, and even Chariots on the charge, like Phalanx units can which was always Spearmen's big weakness in OG Rome.
