i used to have that same box fan. i bought it from home depot. the higher speed setting was actually not too extremely loud noise but runs whisper quiet breeze and motor on background. i love it. i used high speed when i sleep to block off the sound from outside area by using on a window.
It works OK to move air around a room, but it’s not going to do much for moving air through a window. The blade is too flimsy and caves under any resistance.
Your Right bro this one you got is far better then the one I did have that I gave to my sister. the one I have now is the same as your grandfather .. Mines uses the same motor just without a startup sound.. I enjoyed the video glad you like it.
This is definitely the best video of a Lasko 3733 I’ve seen. I totally agree, these are good for the price. And for being the most common fans nowadays, they do work. But, I’d personally go with a Cool Colors or a Power Plus, because in my opinion they are worth the extra money, if you can afford one of them.
yeah, sometimes paying a little more is a good idea, you can get more for the money. Do you know if this one or any of those you mension come in silvere with transparent blades or in silvere with blue blades? What other color can I get them in and how much are they?
*Works amazingly **Fastly.Cool** . I love all the features and the double expansion. For once a fan is almost as tall as my window. Updated but not overly fancy.*
Useful for me to sleep at night when its that masses loud. I had lasko box fan idk what model was it but it was in 2016 bought then it broke. before you say it lasko foughty, some kid stick a spoon in the fan so 2 blades came off not flying out but its still working although I threw it out.
Hi, I found a fan like this in the trash and fixed it with a new thermal fuse. I oiled it with Zoom Spout oil and cleaned it with an air compressor, etc… I also have a Sears box fan 453.812000 with brown blade I got in 1984. I use it every day in the summer to blow air out the upstairs window and open downstair windows to let cool air in during the night kind of like an attic fan. It was pretty dusty so I cleaned it and oiled the motor. It is 37 years old and still works good. The grill is made out of very brittle styrene plastic, and I have had to glue many piece back in with Devcon 2-ton epoxy with a 30 min. set time. Some pieces were missing so I cut some wood strips and glued them in. I also made the grill hole where the plug goes through bigger so the plug can fit through so I don’t have to unhook the wires to do maintenance. I reinforced this hole with some wood strips so if you pull on the cord it won’t break other fins. The handle broke may years ago so I just tied a rope loop onto it, which lasted 20 years and is still working :). By watching your other videos I learned to oil the felt around the bearing. I notice that this fan has holes like bicycle spokes. I think this is to help cool the motor. I was wondering if the Lasko box fan had some holes in it it might stay cooler and not have the thermal fuse burn out? I was thinking of drilling some holes into the Lasko box fan blade face to help cool it so it doesn’t burn out the new thermal fuse I put in. I’ll have to space them evenly so the balance doesn’t get messed up.
I think the holes are just part of the molding process, they can't possibly let much, if any, air through. As long as you keep the blades and motor clean, the Lasko will last a long time.
Got one of these a few days ago, a 3733C. Gotta say it's a massive step up compared to the absolute travesty called the Air King (more like air peasant) 9723. The blades were thin and poorly pitched, and the motor gave it far too much power, causing a nasty unbearable noise even on 1. The 3733C has a pleasant noise, its "air to noise" ratio is great. My only concern is that the blades seem to be poorly balanced and some weight needs to be put on it to stop the vibration. Lovely breeze though and thanks to your maintenance video I plan on keeping it for a long time.
I got a 1994 95 lasko box fan that I got at a school yard sale it was originally used in a cafeteria kitchen and man it’s filthy and yellowed but it still runs perfectly and I also have a 2017 lasko cool colors box fan bought it at Walmart on sale for 12 dollars it works just as good as my old one except the quality on the 90s one is a little better
speaking of quality control I recently bought one of these and it had a paperclip wedged into the part where the frame comes together. i find these fans to be great for my needs the last one i had i still have its a 1999 model with the marco moter and it still runs i regularly service it. all in all they are decent fans much better then those pelonis models.
Another nice review J. Would you by chance know if these use the same motors as in the Wind Machine 3300? And the remote controlled Cyclone? I own all three including this box fan and the Wind Machine is the quietest by far and yet puts out some decent air
I can't say for certain because I don't have either of those, but I'd guess they have the 1.0 amp motor as found in the better box fans, like the WeatherShield or PowerPlus models.. Most of Lasko's fans use a flavor of this motor..
These things are mint, if you have loud obnoxious roommates and need something to dial down the noise in ur room while also getting an amazing cool breeze I would buy, 10/10
The 3723 and 3720 both seem to be the two most quiet sounding of all the lasko models. All other lasko's seem slightly louder.I'm going to buy the 3723.
I have a 3733 and it is made out of plastic and it doesn't make this kind of noise, probably because of it being completely made out of plastic. It cost me $32 without taxes, the cheapest Lasko I could get in my country. When will it naturally break? Will it cool me off under 33°C ?
what you should really see is the holmes box fans, they are the same price but are loads cheeper. the front grill rubs the blade hub because it is so thin, and it uses a boom box cord. they cant be bothered to put a handle, so it has a hole in the back grill to grab.
Hi Jordan. Question. I have had my Lasko 3733 box fan for quite a number of years. I watched one of your videos a while back and was able to fix it after it stopped running completely, but now it will run only for a few minutes, then stops. So I'm wondering what's wrong now. It starts great, then quits after a few minutes. Maybe something is heating up and causing it to stop? Any ideas? Because it's so quiet, I'd like to fix it again. Thanks.
OK so I would rather spend $58.00 on a older quality fan that lasts years longer than a $16.00 fan that is plastic and lasts a fraction of the time... With that said... I'm not saying the cheaper fan is a bad fan... I just think in the fan world, you do get what you pay for if you are looking for better quality and lasting power.
I would ague that while the cost of the Lakewood is higher but the cost per overall life span for the Lakewood is lower. If your Lakewood is 40 plus years old.. Let’s see if the 3733 from 2018 you have is alive in 40 years with regular use. There is a reason the ‘economy’ P223s are still plentiful. Of course is collectors can make anything last. But the average person doesn’t service their fan and being the case the Lakewoods still survive way better than a 3733. Great video as always and enjoy the discussion!
I have two fans of this model and another Lasko box fan, but a different model. This model is exceptionally loud, particularly on speeds 2 and 3, and I agree it would be difficult watching TV or trying to relax while having it on. But, one thing I've noticed about all box fans is that they're pretty loud... not just the Lasko ones. Plus, it's not advertised as quiet... lol. However, I believe it moves a LOT of air on all 3 speeds, often to the point where I would mainly use speed 1 and rarely 2. The first one I bought in 2016 and it still works great in 2020! The other 2 I bought just last year and also work fine. Longevity is good... as long as you clean and maintain them, they WILL last. I don't like using the feet on the fan, and all the Lasko box fans I have (plus the ones I've seen at schools, and my friend's houses) operate without feet and don't tip over or get off-balanced. I don't necessarily think these are bad fans - maybe I've just had really good luck with them, I don't know. But that's my review. Agree to disagree, I guess.
Got 2 of these last year and both ended up blowing themselves over. When it happened once it warped the frames and made them unusable without taping them to a cardboard box. Also there was no hope for putting them on any ither surface other than the floor because theyd slowly move. Mine didnt have the pegs sticking out the back though so im very curious as to why they took them out of the design, they were a complete waste of money regardless of how cheap they are.
The depth dimension decrease from the old box fans makes them depend on the feet to keep them from tipping over causing the blades to break when fan is on high speed or if they get accidentally tipped over so imo allowing for inflation doesn't compensate for a cheap made fan that has been reduced in size so more of them will fit in a shipping container bound for Wal-Mart or wherever. If you can find an old G.E. or Westinghouse box fan buy it. It may be ,although being older, the fan that you could use for years to come . Don't by a Lasco
You get what you pay for...that goes without saying...but can you get any better for the price?...even if its abt $10 more? If so kindly recommend them to me. Thanks
I wonder why Lasko stopped putting holes for a stand on their box fans? It would've been nice at least if they could've add holes for a stand and make them less flimsy and make the motor a litter larger and have a stronger capacitor and yeah. I also at one point wanted a 1998-99 model with the D shaped blades but I don't have any luck to find one in a thrift store, the only vintage box fan I saw at a thrift store was a 1997 Lakewood brace bladed box fan and I didn't get it because I didn't have 20$ when I found it after spending some money on a telephone.
There's no holes because Lasko doesn't want to spend money adding features to the fan that a minuscule amount of consumers will even notice is missing, much less use.. They're not trying to produce a quality product with this model, they're trying to make something that's budget-friendly..
I hate to say it, but the days of buying a fan for premium features is long gone. In the early 2000s, most companies realized nobody used the roll-about stand anymore and they were discontinued. I wonder if you can even get a stand new for an older model with stand holes.
I can somewhat agree, in the house that the family I live with moved to 2 months ago, I founded a very dusty 2010 Lasko 3733 in the basement and it still ran, and like usual, it got cleaned.it almost look new, well other than the fact that there's some minor rust in the frame.
These fans aren't the absolute worst fans out there, but the vintage fans are loads better than these. I had a galaxy fan from 2009. It did move a decent breeze, but it was also very loud like the current ones. It also did not have a startup sound. My 1998 Lasko 3733 moves much more air than one of these. I can confirm that the motors are not as powerful as the older shaded pole motors, because I tried to put a 3rd gen Lakewood blade on that motor and it ran slow.
I agree that the older box fans were overall better fans, however these motors are 8-poles, whereas the older box fan motors were 6 poles.. Less poles produces more speed, so your experiment doesn't necessarily show that the motor is less powerful, it just concurs with motor theory..
It's true that less poles produce more speed, but the new fans still don't last nearly as long as the vintage ones. There are some vintage fans that have been working for 50 years or longer without maintenance and they continue to run, while the modern fans quit working after 5 years. They also use lighter, flimsier blades because the motors can't handle the load of the heavier blades from the past.
For some reason almost every time I get a lasko it's set to speed 3, don't know why tho😂 Also, like 3 years ago I got this b20200 and it had an AMAZING startup sound, sadly it broke tho
Is an aerospeed better quality then this? My grandma has one in her basement she’s willing to give me. It was manufactured at least before 2013. It is a bx100.
You're not kidding, the price of these things has gone through the roof. This one was 16 dollars when I bought it a few years ago, the current price seems to be around 26 dollars now.
I accidentally swung my arm and this plastic crap exploded instantly. To think I saw someone buying six of these a few days ago from wally world. The only good Lasko box fan made in recent years was the B20725.
I purchased the new Lasco Power fans and they did not last a month. They run for a few hours and then slow down and start making a rattling noise. I inserted a watt meter to check power factor and voltage on the line all was fine. This is the last time I will buy anything Lasco.
@@r1ckastl3y86 must be thinking of another brand then. There was a company that made them in several wacky colorways even had an oscilating stand fan that was silver, had transparent blades, remote controled with a very fancy VFD in an oval glass window. I am trying to figure out what brand it was exactly, the model I just discribed I pulled out of a junk pile years ago Must of been produced some time in the early to mid2000s. Sadly mine stopped working and I threw it out. The microprocessor in it would lock up intermittently probably explains why it was thrown out in the first place. It was cool to look at for sure though and it did put out a nice stream of air. Like I said, this was years, years and years ago back to when I was in the 7th grade in 2006. Even the motor cover was metalic silver. Recently I came across a box fan with a similar color but lost track of the link and want one similar or similar to the one I threw out that I had. I am a fan of fancy fans I bet you can tell lol.
How would you compare this to the 2007-08 Galaxy Model 4733? That's the current box fan that I have. Still running strong. EDIT: I'm also noticing the swish-swish noise that it makes when on; same with my Galaxy.
I do not have any experience with the 4733 from that era.. As with most any of these cheap box fans, as long as they're not misused and they're kept clean, they seem to last a reasonable amount of time..
@@JordanU And sorry if I'm asking too many questions here, but I recently took apart and cleaned/serviced the motor in the Galaxy 4733 mentioned above, and it's now having a more pronounced start-up sound for some reason. Is this normal? Fan seems to run OK.
What is hot to you? Here is going to be 33°C (pretty hot) on a daily basis in January and I would like to know if it will cool me off under that temperature
It doesn’t seem that bad. I wanted to get one to attach a furnace filter to the back and use it to filter out my hair and dust in the house. They seem relatively cheap so it’s probably worth grabbing.
I don't think one of these would work well with a filter attached.. They don't have enough power to draw the air through and it would probably decrease the lifespan of the motor due to the resistance..
@@fansgalorellc621 I yould look for a hepa system like something I used for a side table fan for my room years ago I used because I liked it's powerfull fan and it was great for sleaping! It was about the size of a large vcr and put out a nice breeze. If you don't mind used, I would look for something like that if you haven't found something already. Mine was a hunter brand, and had a big filter pad inside you could replace. on the front was a 3speed slider switch, as well as a button labled lonizer or something that just created static or something.
@@JordanU Thanks for your input . Do you have any suggestions for a powerful enough box fan that I can strap a filter to . So I can filter the air in a room ?
@@jacklynmonroe3872 There is no fan that's meant to have the restriction of a filter on the back of it. You need to get a dedicated air filter machine to clean the air.
Kind of a gamble when buying one of these fans. I have a B20200 and it works fine but cosmetically came in worse shape than yours did and the blade is a bit off balance. Moves good air though.
I use them for sleep, now they're around $23 and I only get about 9 months or so before they start making annoying puttputt sounds in the motor. 20 some years ago they would last several years of use.
I don't know why they bother with the "feet"; they need to figure out a way, regardless of the low cost, to make these box fans sturdier and capable of ignoring action not directly addressed to them. I had one in a small rented room with hardwood flooring and in such close-quarters, these fans just have to react to the slightest brush-up, falling over and impacting wood flooring with an obnoxious clang. Sit a guitar case or gym duffel bag beside it..."Oh, this has something to do with ME!" "My life would be empty if I didn't fall over. I'm supposed to fall over, RIGHT? I mean, that's what a fan is supposed to do if a guitar case brushes up against a fan, right? I don't have to wait until the human being to whom I belong WISHES TO move me, do I? I'm free to fall over, make a loud clang and clutter, and misalign the fan blades, right? I mean, why ELSE is the human being setting a gym bag next to me?" Lasko is the hyperactive, autistic child of box fans. I've never seen a product so attention-starved and incapable of minding its own fuckin' business.
The cabinet is only about 2/3 the depth of the old ones, which never fell over. All to save a few dimes in material so they can put a little more profit in their pocket with each one sold. Something like this never would have been acceptable years ago.
I have the Hurricane Classic box fan and the feet are so much better than that style on the Lasko. They are attached and swivel out and keep it from tipping either direction.
Another strange thing I noticed when I got a N.O.S 3733 from 2018 is that here in Canada, they still use the “100 years” box design with the old logo. I’m guessing they did it so they wouldn’t have to pay a graphic designer more to do one side in French.
The thing is , Lasko is a big company like: "Vornado , Holems , Dyson and Patton" so their products can be decent-good. smaller companies have worst products.
What are you talking about? Larger companies have the luxury of being able to spend a lot on research and development, but they also spend a lot on advertising and logistics and overhead, smaller companies don’t have to spend a lot on advertising and logistics so sometimes can sell a superior product for cheaper, there’s no general rule that smaller or larger companies are better, it all comes down to the specific product.
@@travispratt6327 but sometimes companies will end up an empty shell of them selves think RCA, manglavox, emerson, mediocre at best, mostely garbage low end electronics outsourced to china and might be ritch, but use there funds poorly perhaps contracting the shitty contractors, quality being but an afterthought in the end.
I would spend more money on something nicer. Because the quality control is awful, I say that, because apparently, I had one that had a lot of sharp edges, and my friend had one that literally caught fire. And oh my! That fan is louder than my 1991 FEDDERS window air conditioner.
The only way is a bigger capacitor but you will burn out the motor with a different and higher rated capacitor. So do not try it unless you want a campfire of burning plastic along with your house.
I don’t know why but EVERY FAN IVE OWNED HAS AN OIL SMELL THAT MAKES ME SICK! Can anyone tell me why? I’ve smelled it with (in order of strength of smell): Comfort Zone (dollar general) Stand Fan Mainstays (Walmart) tower fan Comfort Zone Desk Fan Lasko Stand Fan (replacement) Identical Lasko Stand Fan
I'm done with lasko their quality is shit now, I had one of these for 6 years and after falling so many times from 4 foot dresser it finally broke the motor started clanking, so I bought a new one and they're shit it vibrates like crazy the body feels super flimsy compared to the old one.
I have one a newer one it's okay but not the greatest because the speed control makes not much of a difference other than that it puts out a lot of air. From 1 to 10 I give it a 6.
that logic is wrong lol if ur gonna inflate the price for the box fan u would have to inflate every other price to make that accurate if not that you might as well not inflate the box fan price lol
Jordan U i rushed that comment lol. im saying how he said that a box fan would be $58 today. even tho it is priced at $25 at a store due to inflation. if you are going to do that for the box fan price u must do it for any other prices involved in the experiment. simple. lol
Shepherdschapelcom Theseasonorg explains the whole Bible God bless 1. KNOW that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23 2. UNDERSTAND the wages of sin is death. Romans 6:23 3. but yeah agree on the new boxfans they are sometimes made very shitty when products are rushed out of the factory you can end up with mediocre products. Not all the modern fans are shit though. Like any machine, if you take good care of it and service it it should last a long time.
Jordan U but please don't get me wrong,I love all your videos and your collection of vintage fans,I do get alot of tips from you, keep the videos comming
