@@mjdxp5688 menacing: lowers the opponents attack by 2, but it’s attack and speed are lowered by 1/4 for 2 turns (turns stay in count when switching out)
I love that in the Anime, it awakens and just starts *FIRING INSTANT HYPER BEAMS OUT OF HIS HANDS WITH NO REST* but in the games he walks like a old man who forgot his prune juice in the morning.
Honestly, it would be a cool idea for an ability on him. One that removes negatives affects from all moves on him. Either Regigigas gets it as a Signature ability, or as another's signature. Either way, it's a cool idea.
Gamefreak to Regigigias: this thing has decent stats for a legendary and decent movepool... ITS TOO POWERFUL Gamefreak: to mega rayquaza: this thing has highest stats in game, expansive movepool, a damn powerful ability, and only mega that can hold an item... its alright
Gamefreak: makes Zacian, a pokemon with a really defensive typing, 170 attack that gets boosted as soon as it enters the field, relatively high defenses (115 in both) and high speed Also Gamefreak: OH MY GOD IT HAS 160 ATTACK LETS KILL IT BEFORE ITS META
The joke is that it has 680 BST like the box Legendaries of that generation, I don't know why giving it such a bad ability. Zacian on the other hand has 720 and gets a +1 attack switching in. Also don't forget Rayquaza which also has 680, a good ability and a Mega without using its item slot. Balance Edit : Regigigas has *670* BST
Speedy Start: Protects Regigigas for one turn and reduces slow start cool down to one turn. And it's not op even by GameFreak's strange standards because you're still wasting your Z move for it.
It might be hard to give Regigigas a mega because he's already the creator of the Regis, so Gamefreak probably didn't want to give him one because of that.
@@professionalfangster1510 Right, so being creator of the Regis makes it a mega despite not having a mega because its story is far better than other Pokémon. If that’s the case why does Rayquaza have a mega? Along with Mewtwo because their stories are already enough to classify them as a mega.
Pokémon logic: Regigigas has overpowered stats which is why it was given Slow Start. Zacian, Zamazenta and Primal-Groudon/Kyogre/Rayquaza are overpowered and got abilities which made them even more broken.
Ego my and my buddy did a “zam v zac” signature moves only without any ev/iv’s whatever u call them. Same levels and all, both with the rusted gear, and zamazenta won (no crits)
It's because the others had at least something going for them in at least 1 generation, some kind of niche, or was an obvious joke pick. Regigigas has had none of those and was designed very poorly with very little reason why. Which is sad because he's one of my favorite. Dude in the same category as magikarp and unown with movepools, they all don't get rest or protect which is ironic because you find him sleeping.
@UCODqIP1oGDSRojxu-7P3Aqg Showdown doesnt do fake metagames in their official formats. So if its not legal in the real games its not legal on showdowns main ladder.
@@luminous3558 No, they already stated on twitter that they will have a full metagame with all mons from national dex, even if the game cuts them out. So you will be able to use galar wheezing and regigigas there, even if gigas doesnt appear in sword&shield
Update: After all these years of utter uselessness Regigigas finally received blessings from the Havens as Gen 8 gifted it a partner that completely stopped Slow Start from activating while it's on the field. When Regigigas made its return in The Crown Tundra, Neutralizing Gas Weezing not only made it usable but Weezing + Regigigas became a legit threat in VGC 2020 Series 7, that you have to respect while team building. With its 110 Defenses and HP, excellent defensive typing and Dynamax, it is literally impossible to take it down even if you double up on it with your strongest moves. And if you ignore it and try to focus on Weezing (which is almost guaranteed to survive at least one turn because it can Protect) Regigigas will get opportunity to fire multiple Max Strikes which on top of being a base 150 power move coming out of base 160 Attack and possibly Life Orbed, also provides speed control. Try Trick Room ? Weezing will Taunt you. Intimidate ? Can't, because of Neutralizing Gas. Even though it feels like once Weezing is down after a couple of turns Regigigas will be useless, but that's all the time it needs for eliminating 2 of your Pokemon out of 4 in a VGC match, if you were not prepared for it, and then it's other teammates like Single Strike Urshifu can clean. Overall, Regigigas is finally receiving the respect and attention that it's stats and legendary status deserved but never got for almost 15 years. It's not the king of the meta game by any means but make no mistake as Regigigas, a Pokemon which has the highest form of dishonor possible for a fully evolved Pokemon of being un-tiered in singles, finally has a decent place in the VGC 2020 Series 7, and a good player will always respect it. (Thanks for reading)
Honestly, I'm happy. And on top of that, even if Weezing faints, Darkest Lariat can still finish off the remaining pokemon, as I believe it ignores the speed debuff, which almost guarantees Regigigas to revenge kill.
it needs something to set it apart from other bulky hatd hitters, like conk and buzzwhole and bulu it's speed tier is superb to them, but it still not in the field of the SM high tier sweepers at this point, if you want to have any viability in UBERS you need something to set you apart, stats alone won't be enough in hackmons, where stats and typing are the only stuff that matter, regi shows the problem of his normal typing, which lacks the resistances to complement his bulk, making other mons a better choices for specific circumstances the best way to utilize him in hackmons is to take advantage of his typing- getting STAB on facade, while giving him a longevity boost with poison heal pretty much anything that doesn't take advantage of that IS outclassed he might be competent in OU, but nothing would set him apart in ubers without a great ability if he gets clear body, he would probably be UU material, maybe getting the RU ban if not
Regigigas would be Uber if it had a good ability, and is far better than anything in the OU tier. It's really bulky and hits really hard, while also having great speed so even if it wasn't the fastest it could still be a viable revenge killer.
Regigigas wouldnt even be what bad, whit just some adjustments. His Spezialattack is still good, but he lacks Specialmoves. He cant learn Protect, and despite his impressive defensestats, he cant realy be played as kinda pseudo snorlax.
Back during DPP, when Regigigas was first released, there was a Choice Specs set on Smogon. It ran like Thunder and other stuff. Trying to make use of Regi haha. I actually remember copying that set into my game. Long gone from the site tho
pokeaimMD there was also someone on RU-vid that did Pokemon Battle Revolution games and in a double battle, used Skill swap on Regigigas to bypass Slow start on it. Again it was years back to the point I remember watching it in high school. Edit: Yea, it was around 10 years ago actually by a RU-vidr called Gigatitan.
Porygon2ning yep, and Gigatitan himself in the video I mentioned had Drifblim use stockpile before Gigas came in. Regigigas used Psych Up to copy the buffs the same turn he got skill swapped. But this was 2009 so a way different era than today.
"Regigigas need Slow Start or it would be overpowered" Meanwhile Rayquaza who has a higher BST had a mega so powerful _that it broke ubers_ Ultra Necrozma _used to exist_ and Crowned Form Zacian has a base 170 attack + 148 speed and has an ability that gives it a free attack boost upon switching in combined with one of the best types in the game.
Those are restricted legendaries. Gigas is a nonrestricted legendary. This means Gigas is legal in nonrestricted official formats. without its ability, Gigas would be too powerful in a nonrestricted format. It would essentially have the base power of a restricted legendary but be legal for play in nonrestricted formats. That would be broken. That is why its ability is not only necessary, but good for the game.
if slow start didnt reset on switch regigigas would actually be really interesting to use. having to find safe switches into it to slowly burn those 5 turns, and not have your time and effort wasted if you have to switch it back out later
Slow Start should just reduce Speed. Think on it, we do have lots of genuinely good Pokémon who aren't made useless by their low Speed stats. The Attack drop is the real problem if we'll be honest.
@@EarthBound_FanTrue, however it would have a high-risk high-reward strategy to it. Plus with VoltTurn shenanigans you could get it into the field pretty safely. Could it completely backfire on you, absolutely, but that's the risk part. But if you could burn the 5 turns individually you'd have a devastating powerhouse on your hands. That's the thing about something that's high-risk, high-reward, it's risky and often difficult to pull off, but when it works, the benefits are well worth it. If Slow Start worked like this, where you only needed to burn five turns once, and not all at once, it would create for a pretty fun and challenging Pokemon to make work. With the right team comp, EV spread and support, I could possibly see it being a viable threat. You wouldn't be able to slap it onto any team, but rather have to build the team around it while keeping a contingency mon if things don't work out. However you'd also have to make it's ability work like Multitype or Stance Change in that it can't be removed or deactivated.
@@IGSA101 I'd imagine something like Mega Rayquaza where he has a move that cuts Slow Start's waiting period by a turn or two and possibly saving it for when it switches out.
@@JAMllostthegame Nah The ability is just changed to unaware, but Regigigas gets an additional 70 base points, and all it costs is the held item slot. So powerful but not quite as good as what they gave Arceus and Giritina, Giritina being every type defensively, making it only weak to rock and immune to half the game, and Arceus ignores immunities and resistances.
Imagine this -> Turbo Start: Regigigas doubles his speed and attack for 5 rounds - but it doesnt reset on switchout And they would have to nerf attack to like 120 and speed to 70-80 to make it fair
@@clubstep8244 It's still uber material for sure. M-Medi which is essentially that (but with 100 attack, not 120, and 100 base speed, not 70*2+) is OU and generally pretty good. Imagine something with even more attack and 4 or 5 speed tiers above. Absolute nightmare to deal with, 744 attack 478 speed (adamant, 252 attack and speed) is monstrous to say the least. If it can hold items, imagine banded. 1116 attack. That's basically +2 Adamant M-Mawile (well, not quite, about 200 attack less) but with almost triple its speed without requiring setup. That's absolutely insane. Depending on movepool, it might get the M-Rayquaza treatment. Thanks, I hate it.
Regigigas: Is slightly weaker than a box legendary and requires three other legendaires brought to specific area while the box legendary is just something you get by playing through the story. Gamefreak: That's a bit too strong lets nerf it into the ground. Genius game design.
Gamefreak: Let's give Regigigas a bad ability because otherwise it would be too powerful. We will also not let it learn protect because then it would be too good. Also Gamefreak: Let's give Mewtwo 2 mega evolutions and Rayquaza a mega evolution that doesn't even need a mega stone!
Also add the fact that Regigigas can't learn Rest either; one of the five universal moves that every pokémon can learn. Edit: Actually six universal moves.
Also Gamefreak, in the same generation: Let's give Garchomp amazing stats and an amazing movepoll, letting it beat every non legendary pokemon with ease!
@@deandregreene2587 Also, Regigigas cannot learn protect, which is a shame because he could be a good pokemon in stall teams with toxic, protect, 110/110/110 and 160 base attack after 2 turns +3 protects. This is also the reason why it isn't used in VGC, because could be an OK support for trick room teams otherwhise.
@@theancientone7798 nah dude it has amazing coverage, it gets earthquake, ice punch, fire punch, knock off, drain punch, superpower, zen headbutt, thunder punch and heavy slam.
Remember when hunter j tried to catch and sell Regigigas? She got impatient and Regigigas got pissed. He forced himself out of Slow Start and fired off hyper beams from both arms. Why can’t we have THAT Regigigas?
I would rework the ability. "Slow Start" -> "Startup" Regigigas Attack and Speed are halved. Regigigas gains the following Advantages for each turn: Turn 1: Physical Damage taken is reduced by 33%. Turn 2: Special Damage taken is reduced by 33%. Turn 3: Speed Returns to Normal. Previous buffs will stay from now on upon switching. Turn 4: Attack Returns to normal. Turn 5: Increase Base Attack by 20 each turn from now on. This would give it more Bulk, compensate for normal typing and turn it into a constant threat that needs to be dealt with. It would also somewhat negate the switching penalty. The Attack being resetted upon switching for one turn is punishment enough. Basically the idea being a slowly starting Boss which gets stronger as time goes on, but compensating for early lacking attack with absurd bulk.
It still gets completely bodied by Close Combat STAB and similar attacks. It might give it a turn or two to get a move off, but you’re still taking a lot of damage. The scaling for Turn 5+ is interesting. Really the biggest problem is that, as stated in the video analysis, 5 turns is *way* too long. I think if Slow Start lasted only 1 turn, it would be significantly more balanced and would be much more interesting to play around.
@@Rahul-ej7iu Fair point, Protect is good. Unfortunately, it’s like you said, it’s a very slight buff to an otherwise abysmal ability. I want to be wrong, but I really don’t think it’s good even with protect with how long it lasts, because then you’re basically letting Regigigas get set up on. At best you get a 50/50 with protect but not much reward when you win the read.
@@imthatguypal_ It made sense why they gave Slaking a terrible ability due to just how stupidly strong it would be without it (Same BST as Groudon and Kyogre on a Pokemon that isn't a Pseudo Legendary isn't okay). There is NO excuse for doing that to a Pokemon that IS a legendary.
1 year later and this video still makes me sad. If GameFreak really thought Regigigas was to strong they could've given him Defeatist or, better yet, Clear Body. Even the Legendary go-to ability of Pressure would be leagues better.
Even if Slow Start only effected 1 or 2 turns instead of 5, it would still be a massive hindrance. It's like they hate normal types and made the only normal Legendary the weakest.
And that game didn't even have PvP either. Meanwhile Arceus got to swap types on the fly with an always supereffective Judgement. I think someone at Game Freak genuinely despises Reggie.
Regigigas can learn Protect in Gen 8 to stall Slow Start turns. Galarian Weezing also exists, which neutralizes Slow Start with Neutralizing Gas, making it a good doubles partner.
I think if Regigigas didn't have that dreadful ability, it would be banned in every pokemon tournament ever made. Would slow start be better if it only lasted two turns instead or five?
Chiaki Nanami approves of this comment Well, at least if gamefreak would give it a hidden ability like sheer force, or even run away, it would be absolutely better
Its unfortunate that this came out before series 7 of gen 8 where it with weazing made a serious threat that you needed to look out for and respect in the team building and it's looking to fit right at home on Zacian teams in series 8
@@ThatOnePurple What about like; skill swap with a Shedinja? Not only does it remove the Slow Start but it also makes him only weak against Fighting types
The editing for the DPP section of the video is perfect. Regigigas fainting on que with every negative aspect of it being listed is a treat. 2:27 3:13 3:25 3:49
I'd love it if Slow Start actually was a boosting ability, like speed boost. Perhaps Regigigas would start at -2 atk/speed (or even less) and would gain +1 per turn, making it actually worth it to wait for it to get stronger in one sitting
Galarian Weezing is announced Regigigas: At long last, I can finally prove myself as the mighty being I was always meant to be! Sword and Shield doesn't have a National Dex. And can't up-trade Pokemon outside the National Dex. Also Regigigas isn't in the National Dex Regigigas: NO!!!
I remember when I created a ROMhack that changed Slow Start to specifically only apply during the first five turns of the battle as a whole, as opposed to its current "five turns after switching in". Good times.
Seems broken. Why should the turns count down even when Regigigas isn't the active Pokémon? I think the way to fix Slow Start is to either make it last 3 turns or reduce the effect to, say, 33% loss to Atk/Spd.
There is a romhack of pokemon blue/red with all 7 gens. If you get regigigas it has no slowstart. A yt got slaking and it also never skipped turns. I thought that was awesome
Huge Power doubles the stat itself, not the base stat, so if it had 252 ATK EVs, it'd actually be the equivalence of a base 372 ATK stat on level 50 or a base 369 ATK stat on level 100. Point still stands though, it'd be a stupidly high attack stat.
you know you suck when people would rather make magikarp, shuckle, and sunkurn usable as a sweeping team rather than try and make you useful for anything
Hey, don’t be so negative I have pulled sweeps with shuckle with 3 evasions thanks to people spamming defog and me trapping them and wearing them slowly with infestation
Skill-Swap my dudes. Uxie and Regigigas used to be a very fun doubles combo for moving Slow Start to an opposing pokemon right away. Also if i was going to give it a new ability: I would call it 'Slow Analysis' Speed and Pow reduce for three turns, and ignore accuracy / evasion drops/boosts. Might be a slow Mon, but your opponent won't be able to double team/ sand attack their way to victory.
"...how *titanic* this golem was in the competitive scene" Was that an intentional pun on how it's a titan that *sunk* to the bottom of the tiers just like the ship? If so that's awesome XD
All they'd have to do is lower the amount of turns slow start takes, track it through switch outs or lower the nerf and it'd probably actually be good.
I vividly remember finally getting my hands on this thing as a kid, being _super excited_ to test it out on an Elite 4 rematch & staring at the battle screen wondering why it sucked so much. I still have that gigas, but it's never been in a party again.
My idea: Slow start will make the user start off with -1 stage in every stat, but will gain one level on each stat every 2 or 3 turns. This ability will not buff stats with +3 stages or higher.
@@notvex3987 Yeah you’re right, it should probably be limited to attack and speed, and maybe after 3 turns. I might keep the 3 stages rule though, he does start with -1 in attack and speed so he’d have to wait a while to reach 3 stages from the ability alone.
"Gamefreak's Cruelty Knows No Bounds." - That statement applies to literally all pokemon whose stats don't make logical sense with their design, abilities or movepool, ESPECIALLY for Regigigas.
Imagine Slow start being altered so that it effect doesn’t vanish in 5 turns, but inverses, and it slowly builds up to that (turn 1 half the stats, turn 2 reduce by 25 %, turn 3 normal, turn 4 increase by 25 %, turn 5 increase by 50 %)
Wow. Even the worst Pokémon Kellen has analyzed didn’t get the dishonor of the title being altered. Regigigas is a tragedy that even the Greeks could never come up with.
And it’s a shame too because even if it’s ability was LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE it would at least be solid in UU. Even if it was defeatist or hell, even truant it would be so much better.
I feel like if slow start *only* halved speed, then it would've at least been usable on trick room teams and still would be a bulky attacker otherwise. Why GF felt the need to halve his attack too I'm not quite sure.
Because of what effectively amounts to "lore" is my guess. You see, Regigigas was said to have towed the continents with massive ropes when it was first unleashed upon the world, but that's really tiring work, and it needed to rest for a millennia or 2. When it finally woke back up, it wasn't fully recovered yet, which is why it needs to wait 5 turns to get the aches and cramps out of it's system, if you will.
GF is known for gimmicks ever since Wobbuffet (or even Ditto). Either they're gimped OP, reactionary defensive, or amped one-hit wonders like Shedinja (I'd love it if that ability made him a powerhouse too, that'd be fularious yo).
Imagine a new move or item that suppresses Slow Start. I mean, c'mon, Regigigas is likely returning in Sword and Shield but I doubt his viability will change if something isn't done about Slow Start.
When Sword and Shield arrive, Regigigas will be best friends with Galarian Weezing. ...Assuming Regigas makes it into the game because RIP National Dex lol.
I bet anything they will make a third game called bow or dagger and that will have the national Dex and a bunch of other things. They've done thinga like that before.(yellow, crystal, emerald)
@@Darth234Ravenous ok. How has no one thought of that before? It seems so obvious now! Sword and shield aren't getting all pokemon but spear, dagger, gun... whatever isnt under the limits sword and shield is!
If only the counter did reset everytime it switches out and if once Slow Start is gone ,it is gone for good, if this were the case then Regigigas could be a good late game Pokémon
@@EmperorATsamaku We need a Primo Regigigas, one that has returned to its ancient power (which is what the ability implies) and that has a true ability and could seriously kick ass
